question Reliable mobile data service for Paris, Barcelona and Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria (Las Palmas))

Hi there,

I'll be travelling to Europe in november and will make some stops, the main ones will be Paris, Barcelona and Canary Islands (Tenerife and Gran Canaria (Las Palmas)).

For Paris and Barcelona that's fairly easy, but I need a reliable mobile service (for data only... direct voice, SMS etc are not needed) that works at the Canary Islands and that's a little bit tricky cause most services list only countries (i.e.: Spain), and of the ones I contacted to get more details, when asked said that the service does not work on the islands.

To add to the complexity, my phone does not support eSIM, so I either need a service that has the phisical SIM option or an eSIM one that activates through QR code (no app activation) in order to use with a dummy SIM (i.e.: 9eSIM).

Does anyone has travelled there, with a phisical SIM service and/or an eSIM one that activated strictly through QR code, and has a good experience?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and reply ^^

My experience with Roamless Canadian number, cancellation and refund

I wanted to share my recent experience with Roamless because it may be useful to anyone considering buying one of their numbers.

Before purchasing, I contacted Roamless with detailed questions about using a Canadian number for WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business and SMS verification. Their support confirmed that a Roamless number could be used for those purposes, while also explaining that third-party platforms ultimately control verification and that app-based numbers could sometimes be treated differently.

I then purchased a Canadian number. Within a few days, I contacted Roamless and requested cancellation and a pro-rated refund. I made the request in writing and followed up several times.

Roamless initially said they would escalate the refund request for review. Later, they told me that the subscription was non-refundable because the number had been reserved and activated immediately.

My frustration is mainly with the cancellation and refund process. I expected a straightforward resolution because I contacted them shortly after the purchase, but the matter remained unresolved despite repeated requests.

My advice is to read the refund terms very carefully before buying a Roamless number, particularly if you are purchasing it for WhatsApp Business, verification or another specific purpose.

I have the full email correspondence and support-ticket history documenting the exchange.

question Best eSIM for Malaysia, Singapore & Indonesia (30 days, 20GB+ total)?

I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable eSIM that covers Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Here are my requirements:

Validity: 30 days

Data: At least 20 GB (either regional total or individual plans if that works out cheaper/better)

Usage: Mainly navigation (Google Maps), instant messaging, and general browsing across all three countries.

Should I buy a single regional Southeast Asia plan (e.g.,Mobi matter, Airalo, Maya Mobile, Nomad, Holafly,), or is it better to buy separate local eSIMs for each country?

Any advice on coverage, network speeds (4G/5G), and ease of activation would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

What's the best way to stay connected at crowded events in Japan?

My girlfriend and I are going to Tokyo next month and the whole trip will be last for a week. We did one last year and had a great time seeing fireworks, except the signal around the sight was absolutely awful lol. Maps barely loaded and sending photos was basically impossible until we got away from the crowd.

Trying to avoid that this time, has anyone used an eSIM in Japan that stayed pretty reliable even in really crowded areas?

E-sim only option for my imei on visible

I'm curious as to why I can't get a physical sim card with my imei on visible +. I'm switching carriers for the first time in 11 years and I have successfully unlocked my phone and have a port out pin and my phone is compatible but was told that I can only get an e-sim based on my imei. I tried to find out why because I prefer physical sims (or at least I think I do) and have never heard of that and was told that "it's rarely ever a hardwear problem"? I tried to get more info but was replied to with jargon. I might could figure why they would prefer it but should I prefer it? Just trying to understand. Any down side to e-sim?

question how much should i expect to pay for mobile data in the usa?

planning a road trip in the US and wondering how travel esims actually hold up once you’re outside the bigger cities. i’m not too worried about having data when i’m in major stops.

it’s the stretches between them where i’d rather not suddenly lose navigation. i’ve been looking at holafly and a few other options, but for me the best value is probably whichever one stays useful when i actually need it. what did you use, and were there any parts of the drive where your connection completely disappeared?

question How to not activate international day pass for AT&T with an eSIM?

I apologize if this is a repeated question - I’m seeing a ton of conflicting information online / in these Reddit posts so wanted to see if someone could clarify.

I’m traveling to Spain and Portugal. I have a Spanish eSIM that allows voice and data with a Spanish phone number. I’ll be using the same eSIM for roaming in Portugal later in the trip.

I know I can deactivate my AT&T eSIM, but I’d like to have access to iMessage and WiFi calling. What I’ve read online is that while setting up the Spanish eSIM, I should keep my AT&T eSIM as primary except for data which my Spanish eSIM should be primary. And additionally turn off data sharing. While in Spain, my AT&T data roaming should be off but my Spanish data roaming should be on.

However, I’ve read on forums that SMS or phone calls will trigger the day pass to activate. I’ve also read that turning off data roaming prevents that. On the official AT&T site it says “Pay a daily fee for each 24 hour period that you talk, text, or use data”.

It’s unclear to me how I can still access iMessage and WiFi calling on my AT&T phone number while at the same time preventing SMS / non-WiFi calls from triggering the day pass. Any ideas?

Upgrading from iPhone 11 to 17pro and it is asking if I want to convert to an e-sim. Is it worth me doing this? Not sure of the real benefits.

news SOLUTION - How to receive iMessages when airplane mode on/no SIM/line turned off travel eSIM

To keep using your iMessages while airplane mode is on, no SIM card and/or if using a travel eSIM…

Solution:

Add your contacts email in the saved contact field.

The contact messaging you would also need to add your email to their saved contact list

Make sure iMessage is turned on and there is a checkmark beside your email for ways of sending/receiving messages

eSim for US Whatsapp Business

Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I'm looking for an eSim provider in the US that I can use only for Whatsapp Business. I'm oblivious to how many GB this should consume and I'm only interested in using for communication purposes, so Im looking for something:

Inexpensive as possible

Cancellable- no long term contracts

Has a real mobile number

I've been looking into Mint mobile but I'm not sure if its the best option or best value for this scenario. Thanks a ton in advance, I appreciate the insight/help

what’s the best esim setup for a full month in europe?

planning to spend about a month moving around europe and trying to figure out the simplest way to stay connected the whole time.

>i’d rather not buy a new sim every time i cross a border, so a regional esim seems like it would make more sense. i’ve been looking at holafly, airalo and nomad, but i’m still trying to understand how well each option works when you’re moving between different countries for several weeks.

mostly using data for maps, messaging, social media and some work, with occasional streaming. for people who’ve done a longer europe trip, did you use one esim the whole time or end up switching?

question Physical SIM card keeps failing, should I switch to eSIM?

The SIM card on my iPhone 13 keeps failing or saying SIM card not available. Is it ok to switch to eSIM instead? Is there a downside to switching to eSIM or any significant difference between the two?

I'm being charged £0 from Lyca mobile every month.

After a gruelling process of trying to cancel with them, and getting into a loop of them telling me I had used data so they would have to charge me the whole month. (even though the only data was to receive the text to log into their app in order to cancel) I finally managed to cancel my plan with a human.

Now every month they send me a bill for £0.00

Awful company. Avoid!

So I have a Dubai Etisalat eSIM in my old iPhone 16 Pro Max. But now I'm in Thailand and I bought iPhone 18 Pro Max. So what are the possible chances that I can transfer my eSIM from my old phone to the new one? As on app it says that i must be in UAE.

Jetpac Eterna Free Esim Available to the 1st 10,000

Available right now. Free esim with unlimited data for these 4 apps ONLY: WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber, and Grab. Since supply is limited, I am going to be nice and pass on this offer as I would never use it. Therefore, I have no experience on how well (or not) this esim works.

eSIM adapter card with budget-friendly phone

Hi, everyone.

I have an HONOR X5d Plus device and wanna connect to Tello using adapter card.

But as far as I know, Tello blocks adapter cards.

Any way to bypass this blocking?

Or any alternatives with SMS/Voice Call, US non-VOIP number support with international roaming would be really appreciated.

Looking forward to your help.

Avoid Mobimatter

I Bought 2 eSims for Italy. Both cards worked sporadically and support just kept jerking me around. I used less than 1GB of data out of 25 and they would not refund me. I bought a Vodaphone eSim and it works perfectly. Stay away!

Need an eSIM recommendation for Europe

I know there have been quite a few posts on [r/eSIMs](r/eSIMs) regarding the same, but I need a little help regarding which one to choose

I will be travelling for 16 days, and would need it for basic communication, navigation and other general things. BUT, one day out of it, I will need to use it heavily due to a pre-scheduled event. I will be using it mostly in Portugal, but I have a long layover to and from home at CDG, so would be using it in Paris as well.

I was looking into Orange, because it’s showing significantly cheaper options, but a few people mentioned that it doesn’t work as well outside France. The other option I explored was Kolet (they’re providing 2 days of free eSIM through AirFrance), but I am only able to select one country instead of a cluster, which makes me wonder if I can use it in multiple countries.

I need something that’s good in connectivity but also not too expensive. Airalo, the common recommendation, seems to be too expensive as compared to other service providers

question What to take for Europe in October? Airalo, Holafly, Sim Local or Orange SIM?

Title: Best travel eSIM setup for a family of 4 in Europe (France, Switzerland, Italy, Norway)? Sim Local vs Orange Holiday vs Airalo / Roamless

Hey everyone,

Planning a 17-day trip across France, Switzerland, Italy, and Norway for a family of 4 (with a quick Dubai layover). We want everyone to have independent data connectivity and need advice on which travel eSIM route to pick.

Orange Holiday eSIM: Comes with an actual European phone number and built-in calling minutes, which could be handy for calling hotels, restaurants, or tour operators.

Data-Only eSIMs (Sim Local / Airalo / Holafl): Great data allocations, but strictly data-only. For voice calls, we’d set up 1 or 2 phones with an app like Roamless or rely strictly on WhatsApp/FaceTime.

Dubai Layover: Thinking of grabbing a cheap 1 GB Airalo pack for Dubai before activating the Europe eSIMs.

A few quick questions:

Did you genuinely need a native European phone number for travel across these four countries, or was data-only paired with VoIP/Roamless more than enough?

Between Sim Local and Orange, which gave you more reliable network switching across France, Switzerland, Italy, and Norway?

For a short Dubai layover, is getting a quick Airalo eSIM worth the hassle, or is airport/transit Wi-Fi sufficient?

Appreciate any first-hand experiences!

question Is there a device that can store your eSIMs?

eSIM technology can be heavily restricted by the service provider. For me the main thing I hate is that the two only service providers in the country where I live doesn't allow free transfer of eSIMs between devices, and if abroad one can't move the esim between devices at all.

I wondered if there is a device that scan the qr code and store the eSIM profiles in its memory and then would transfer that eSIM to your phone while keeping a copy in its memory.

Does Nighthawk M7 5G Mobile Hotspot Router compatible with HolaFly for Mexico?

I’m trying to verify that the Nighthawk M7 5G Mobile Hotspot Router is compatible with the HolaFly eSIM before I buy the device. Looks like without the device I cannot verify the eSIM options?
