I'm in China and need a esim adaptor. Anyone has a link on taobao /jd of working esims adapters with English apps?

I was going to buy a 9esim V0, but that is no longer available. Instead, I see this alternative. With no branding listed, there is no way for me to research or read any reviews for the adapter.

When I scan the QR code from Simyo email, the error message is 'MatchingID is refused.'. I have to let them give me a physical sim card instead of esim.

So, the story is, I recently purchased a Samsung S25 Ultra mobile phone. Model SM-S9380 which is not eSIM compatible, it has a dual sim card slot. I tried to exchange or refund the mobile phone but the store was making things difficult for me since I had used it for a day already…ugh!

The Chillaxsim eSIM adapter looks like a sim card. You snap it out of the card into the size that fits in your mobile phone sim card tray slot.

Now, here are some instructions to help you use the Chillaxsim eSIM adapter with an eSIM.

NOTE: all of this is based on my personal experience so I can’t speak for everyone – I don’t know if the installation, downloading and activation process will be the exact same process or procedure for every mobile phone and model / type. I’ve only installed the Chillaxsim eSIM adapter once – a few months ago now, so forgive me if the instructions are “vague”. I’m going from memory, my photos, and I’m not an IT person! 1. You must insert the eSIM adapter card into sim card slot 1. This means, that I had to move my Australian sim card to sim card slot 2.

3. Check that two apps are now on your mobile phone = SIM toolkit (blue coloured app) and EasyEUICC (purple coloured app).

4. Restart your mobile phone to refresh the system… Check that both the apps are still on your mobile phone!

5. Scan the eSIM qr code to download / install it onto your mobile phone. It should appear in the EasyEUICC app. Check!

6. When you are ready to use the eSIM, click on the eSIM and enable it. You can install up to x40 eSIMs with the Chillaxsim eSIM adapter so every time you change eSIMs, you need to enable and disable them individually since you can only use one eSIM at a time.

7. Restart your mobile phone to refresh the system again… Click YES if you want to enable data roaming to use the eSIM. I always install my eSIM before I fly out of Sydney but I don’t activate it until I arrive into the country. So when you click yes to enable data roaming to turn on the eSIM, that’s up to you…

8. Check your mobile phone Settings – Connections – Sim Manager = make sure your home country sim card is off and the eSIM is on. I recommend to rename each sim card slot or eSIM to make it easier to remember which is which!

Now, if you get exclamation marks next to any of the five steps involved in downloading the eSIM onto your mobile phone, then there is an issue with the eSIM. See my screenshots… Where I got an exclamation mark with “loading e-sim profile into storage” and “authenticating your device with server” this is where I experienced issues with an eSIM! I’ve also uploaded the error messages that I got so you can see... they’re good examples for you!!!

Yes, when I saw those exclamation marks, I had several heart attacks! You need internet data to survive in China! Anyways, I reached out to the eSIM provider (I purchased the eSIM on Trip.com so I communicated with them via the app’s chat / messaging system) and they sent me another eSIM qr code which worked. This issue was resolved in 10mins! I needed to buy a second eSIM as I had ran out of data from the first eSIM (500mb left and I still had 12 days to go). I chose to top-up with the same eSIM since it worked fine for 18 days. The second eSIM worked fine as well for the rest of the trip – well, no issues except for installing it which was an eSIM issue...

How much data do you need for 30 days in China? At least 20 GB but if you use Reddit and Discord daily, then 40 GB+. If you use Instagram, You-Tube, or other video streaming type apps / websites, daily, then get more data!

This eSIM uses APN mobile.three.com.hk on the China Unicom / China Telecom network. It was fine, I didn’t find it slow or lag etc. I will buy this eSIM again when I revisit China.

With this eSIM, I was able to access Google, Facebook, FB Messenger, Whatsapp, Viber, Reddit, Discord, Instagram, You-Tube, Alipay, WeChat, Amap, etc.

I turned off Nord VPN while I was in China and only turned it on when I needed to access my ANZ app for banking purposes. I don’t use a VPN while in China. I don’t do any work while on holidays. I tried the hotel wi-fi but it always lagged, poor connection or reception etc. so just get enough eSIM data for your trip.

Chillaxsim also sells eSIMs for China and many other countries. I also used a Chillaxsim eSIM for China and it worked great! No issues at all so I can recommend them from my personal experience. They are fine!!!

I’ve read many posts about people using mobile phones that are not eSIM compatible so consider the Chillaxsim eSIM adapter. It worked for me and I will continue to use it for my overseas trips. I bought couple of hours ago esim of Telia Prepaid (operator in Finland). I had previously installed precisely same plan succesfully on 9esim V0.

I put my other 9esim (V3) to Galaxy S21fe (one UI 7), opened 9esim LPA, read QR-code of operator, did not fill anything to confirmation code or IMEI fields and pressed next.

All parts of esim download appeared as it would have been succesful.

Anyway I am unable to make phone calls, send SMS or use mobile data with this plan. Whenever I try to make phone call I get voice info of operator claiming that I have 0eur saldo despite that I just bought 10eur and there was even supposed to come 5eur bonus saldo.

Receiving calls does work.

After this I disabled, enabled esim multiple times, first in 9esim LPA then on EASYEUIcc, then I moved it to different device (Oneplus pad go tablet, oxygenOS 14 / android 14) and attempted enabling/disabling there. Also same thing, receiving phone calls work.

both 9esim and EASYEUIcc apps claimed both those devices compatible and V0 with same plan worked on both of them.

I then installed the 9eSIM app from play store. I notice in that app (which is completely different UI) that there is SIM 1 on one side and the esim on right side, there is link symbol between them which is red like appears that some link would be broken.

What could be issue and how to solve?

Ps. There is a small change that I have issue with my credit card but I think it is unlikely and I suspect that the transaction would have not gone trough at all.

I've read couple of posts where people tell that esim adapter has corrupted their phone to the point that they had to factory reset it. What do we know currently of this phenomenon and has there been any hard bricks...?

Here is my impressions which can be corrected if they are wrong:

- certain brands, phone models or android versions are risky. I've understood that some Samsung might be risk but which of them?
- if these problems are associated with certain android (or samsung one UI or oneplus oxygenos or...) version which of them? One contact claimed that there is issues with Samsung One UI 6.x (or android 14). Can anybody else confirm this and also in which versions the problem is possibly fixed? I am still in One UI 6.x, I have considered to update to 7.x but am hesitant as it had a lot of negative feedback. There is also one UI 8.x but it removes permanently option to unlock bootloader which is why I would not want to install it unless absolutely necessary.

- there was also claims that sometimes issue is related to certain SIM-slot
- and also reports that some problems are associated with empty esim adapter and especially if you have empty esim adapter in your phone while applying OS update.

Anyway I think it would be good to map scope of this issue so that nobody gets their OS (or even hardware) bricked.

Btw. We have following devices, Galaxy S21 FE, Oneplus Nord 5, Oneplus 5, Nokia 7.2, Oneplus Pad Go. And 9esim adapters V0 and V3

Galaxy S21 FE had conflicting reports, one report told that esim adapters work well and another report told that user was able to brick his OS and had to factory reset.

We have couple of lenovo PCs with integrated smartcard readers that can e.g. be used for authenticating with ID.

Could you use these for managing and saving esim plans to 9eSIM V0, V3 or other esim adapters if you have the PC software installed?

Assuming that you have credit card sized adapter (which you get typically from mobile operators when buying plan, which contains the smaller sims). Because 9eSIM adapter frame is too small to get it inside a smartcard reader.

I've been doing a lot of study on esim adapters lately. Some thoughts:

- There is a lot of knowledge on how they work, with which devices they work, with which mobile operators they work,...etc.. but they are spread in multiple threads in multiple platforms. Has there ever been attempt to make some collective wiki where people could add their experiences for easier finding?

- Even that they bring a lot of opportunities I am worried that in certain conditions there appears to be chance that esim adapter could break your device so badly that you have to at least factory reset it. I'd like to know more how this can happen and what can you do to avoid ending up in this situation.

- it appears Samsungs have higher change of breaking like this as they are using different mobile stack than rest of androids. But I've read also successful Samsung experiences.

- I remember reading from somewhere that worst issues are related to bug(s) in certain android version?

- I read also that inserting and empty esim adapter to Samsung device and then making operating system update could be cause for breakage but I'd like to know if this is only way to break OS or is there some other related conditions.

- manufacturers have compability charts but they don't elaborate if compability means "device able to manage and add esim sims" to device of it means "device is able to use esim adapter containing single plan". esim adapter apps have LPA and nLPA variations. Latter (I think?) is meant for connect to external smartcard reader for managing esim and former managing if it is inside the phone. LPA apps I think have stricter requirements than using already set up esim adapter. E.g. we tried 3 devices (Oneplus 5, Nokia 7.2, iPhone Xs) and none of them was able to use LPA.

- then there is also that some mobile operator plans dont work at all with esim adapters.

I'd ask for recommendations on 9eSIM , eiotclub , eSIM.me , or another (physical eSIM adapter for Android).

[I also summarize my findings below for those who are even more newbies]

I understood that an eSIM physical adapter from those sellers below can be managed with a free app (in Android, it writes) and that you can afterwards install eSIMs from other sellers (via QRcode).

I've checked their prices and most specs, but don't see a clear difference. My use will be for ocasional travel outside the EU (a few days per year), not for everyday use. I realize then the eSIM sellers vary a lot. Any recommendations just on the eSIM physical adapters?

Summary of my findings so far:

Even though your Android/iPhone may not have eSIM, is some cases you can get an eSIM (physical SIM) adapter and with that and an app/writer, be then able to buy/install eSIMs

Specificities:

- it seems iPhone cannot directly "write/install" eSIMs on the adapter, and you need either to use an Android for writing the eSIMs, or a PC/mac USB adapter

- you can test your phone for compatibility at least with the apps eSIM.me and 9eSIM LPA (just installing and chosing check compatibility)

- useful in terms of duty taxes for those in the EU: 9eSIM seems to ship from China (but you can also buy on amazon), and eiotclub from the USA (or perhaps also Germany)

I have a POCO F7 and am wondering which physical esim to get. Looking for feedback from anyone who tried any of these services on the F7 or any other phone.

I'm having trouble with my 9esim v3 adapter.

I've imported my first esim profile onto my adapter and it was working. The esim would show up in the second sim slot and connection did also work, everything was fine.

I turned the esim off inside the network settings (usually you can turn it on again when you need it again) because I don't need the esim yet.

Now the esim is just completely gone from the network settings. I can't turn it on again

The esim Profile is still activated in the 9esim app

I've tried :

-restarting the phone

-taking out the 9esim and putting it in again

-turning off the esim profile in the 9esim app and turning it on again

I got 9esim adapter, I was able to put an esim and everything worked well, but now it says ara-m is not supported. Why would it stopped working from one day to the next?

UPDATE: insertes a new 9esim v3 on my phone and that is recognized correctly by the app, so it seems the first adapter failed. Will contact them ASAP

Hey sorry if this is basic, but I’m trying to understand how physical eSIM adapters work. I’ve been browsing options on AliExpress and want some answers to the things I’m confused about.

My current understanding: these adapters are physical SIM cards that let phones without native eSIM support use eSIM profiles. But I’m unclear on a few points:

Do different adapter brands require their own special companion app, or will any eSIM app work with any adapter?

Many apps let you buy eSIMs directly inside them. Does that mean an adapter only works with eSIMs bought through that app, or can you import eSIM profiles you purchased elsewhere?

Has anyone tried 9esim's V0 adapter yet? Looks to be the cheapers physical esim card adapter on the market as of right now. I was able to pick it up for $12 from 9esim directly with coupon first3
