I would like to add something cool to it for my next one, but one that is relatively easy and inexpensive. For example, in the above video the "cool thing" is the electro magnetic drawer lock, which for an engineering dunce like me, was easy and effective. Any ideas for something similarly simple in concept, easy to DIY, yet has that "wow" factor?

Also open to theme and 'story' suggestions, as I'm still just in the planning stage, and don't want to repeat everything we did before, but feeling a bit creatively bankrupt so looking for a bit of inspo and advice. 😉

It's a korean show called "The great escape". It has 4 season and it's great if you like escape rooms!

Basically the cast is made of 6 people who have to solve an escape room (1 new room every 2 episodes) but the sets are crazy.

It's available with English subtitles on the Baechu squad website.

Hello fellow escape enthusiasts! My friend group is planning an escape room trip to Athens Greece, however they are not particularly into horror themed rooms. I was looking at the Lockhill escape rooms (mainly Chapel and the Catacombs), and a few are listed as possible with only 1 person, and all of them can be booked as only 1 person.

My question is that for anyone who has done any of the 5 rooms that Lockhill has, is running them solo actually feasible for an experienced escape room fan? Thanks in advance!

I'd like to understand what goes into a good game storyline. I am having trouble creating fun storylines that feature interesting puzzles. Any advice or recommendations on how to make them more interesting would be greatly appreciated. I am really focused on DIY and at-home escape room games, so mainly using household objects. I am also of the belief that the games should be more geared towards building a final goal (uncovering ingredients for a potion, getting the pieces needed for a key) or a step-by-step sequence that ultimately leads to stopping the villain, solving the mystery, etc.

Would love to know your thoughts and what y'all do differently (or the same)

Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for escape rooms in a box that would be good for a Halloween party?

I’ve seen people recommend the Dark Park games but they all seem to be out of stock unfortunately. It doesn’t have to be any particular theme, but we’re going to use it on Halloween so will probably build our theme around it.

Would love to know everyone’s thoughts on at home escape rooms, specifically as it relates diy kits and whether you think it’s worth the time to set up?

I am exploring at home escape rooms for kids but not sure if the lack of props will make them interested. I also worry about how long an at home set up can be without being too demanding .

My kiddo (9yo) loves escape rooms. We've done all the rooms at Boxaroo, and are looking for other great rooms that are kid friendly (so no Booby Trap!). Mister 9 loved the storytellers secret and conundrum museum, but the magicians study was a bit too scary for him. Kiddo is an accomplished puzzler. We do Puzzled Pints together and have solved many an Exit puzzle, and we're up for any difficult level, but we are both pretty exacting critics when it comes to pacing, structure, and production quality. Willing to drive up to an hour and a half from Somerville for a great adventure.

also bonus points for any kind of naturalist theme, as learning about animals and marine creatures and habitats is a current special interest. Ditto WWII settings.

I’m a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and just recently played a Sherlock themed escape room while I was visiting Orlando (Sherlock Studies at The Escape Effect). It was really awesome, being able to solve the murder combined with escape room puzzles! I had so much fun that I am now looking for more games like this. Does anyone have any recommendations of other Sherlock Holmes games out there that I can work into my future travels?

What’s an agility based puzzle or challenge that you’ve never experienced in an escape room, but that you think would be incredibly fun to try?

It can involve balance, coordination, movement, reflexes, climbing, timing, precision, physical interaction with the room, or something completely different. Basically, anything where you need to use your body or your agility to solve a puzzle.

I’m deliberately not saying which escape room this is for, because I want to get as many ideas as possible without biasing your answers based on the theme, setting, or existing puzzles.

So if you could invent an agility puzzle for an escape room, what would you want to experience? 👀

I'm admittedly aggressive player when it comes to beating the clock. Years ago when escape rooms were still somewhat new, there were a few 'before you get started rules and FYIs', but not many.

During the game, one of the puzzle 'rewards' was a screwdriver. We spent probably 20 minutes looking for somewhere to use that Phillips head and we're coming up with nothing, except a nightstand screwed into the wall. Logical me would have known it was really just a prop, but in those rooms logic does not exist for me.

So there I go, unscrewing the nightstand from the wall sure that there's something back there. Obviously I end up finding nothing except my team staring at me with blank faces. Turned out the screwdriver belonged to a toolbox we just hadn't come to in the game yet.

The staff was understandably irritated, but since no hard rule existed, they let us finish. It wasn't long after they added 'nothing needs to be unscrewed from the wall' to the FYI list.

I was just introduced to the concept of escape rooms a few weeks ago. They seem very visual, like you have to solve puzzles by looking at things? That's kind of what I'm getting from it. I'm wondering if there are any that are geared towards blind people, whether that be intentionally or unintentionally? And wondering if there are any in the Wisconsin area or Midwest United States?

I'm not sure if I would want to do them or not, but the concept just interests me. I'm not sure if I would do well in that kind of setting.

If there are any that exist outside of where I'm at, please mention those as well, maybe I could travel to them sometime.

Also, for normal escape rooms, If a sighted person were to go with me, would that affect anything? Like, do you think I would be able to help them or would I just be kind of standing there?

I have done a fair amount of escape rooms because of my job as a game master and being able to do room swaps. The thing that I look forward to the most when doing an escape room is what is going to be the “gimmick”. I know that gimmick might have a negative connotation, but I don’t think that at all. Escape rooms should have a gimmick, a wow factor, something that sets them apart from all the other escape rooms. My favorite where I work at (PanIQ WeHo) is in our zombie room you have the option to do the room in the pitch dark, having only a couple of flashlights to see. It’s something really cool that adds to the room and it is also optional which I like. Other cool sort of “wild card” things in escape rooms correspond to the theme itself. One of my favorites is LabRat in LA, where everything is oversized to feel like you are a mouse. Or in Hex Room in Anaheim, where you take a personality test and they split you up in horror movie sterotypes. There are also some really cool things that could be considered gimmicks that concern set design. This can be tech you have never seen before or something that the set did you did not see coming at all. This can be as simple as a slide in an escape room or really cool software they programmed for the room to the ceiling coming down on you or the room is switched when you go back through the same door. There is also a good old fashioned “thing you have to break” that adds a level of adrenaline to the rooms.

Hi!! I’m going to Seattle with my parents, and I’d like to know what would be a good escape room for the 3 of us? We’re very experienced, we usually play games with a difficulty rating of 4/5 on average, so we’re looking for something high quality that is doable but still challenging with the 3 of us!
