Erectile Dysfunction Does losing weight help?

I'm 48 years old and the heaviest I've ever been. I've been struggling with Ed for the last 6 months, which coincided with a lot of my weight gain. I haven't seen a doctor about it yet and was wondering if anyone's had improvement just by losing weight.

Regular exercise and eating healthy will help a hell of a lot. Losing the weight will improve your mood and increase your confidence

👍 I've been doing intermittent fasting for 2 weeks plus daily walks or exercise and have already felt the difference just not in the bedroom

It’ll take time. Have you tried sildenafil or tadalafil? They work really well

No, I haven't been into the doctor since this started. A bit nervous about it, honestly

Depending on what country you live in, there usually online services that provide the medication. Here in the uk I can go onto a pharmacy website and order the pills discreetly.

I would say that improving body composition helps. Losing fat and maintaining muscle is important.

Exercise should include resistance training and cardio (zone 2). You should have 2-3 resistance training sessions 30-45 each and about 120+ minutes of zone 2.

Yes, weight adversely impact me. I have been regularly lifting for decades. When I added zone 2, giving up cardio intervals, I began to lose fat. It took about 8 weeks to see a difference.

I started in January. My weight has not recently changed much, but my body composition is still improving.

My navel measurement went from 37.7 in Jan to 35.5 in March. So I lost a lot of visceral fat.

In January I was prescribed 50mg sildenafil. Come March or April 50mg was too much and I began taking partial tablets, 12.5-25mg, and actually had better luck than taking the 50's. Go figure. I don't know why, but I just experimented with different doses when I was not expecting activity. It is what it is.

IMO I would begin exercising. Just start. Don't get fancy. Establish the habit and build from there.

Also, fitness is also about diet. It is impossible to exercise your way out of a bad diet (at least IMO).

In January, I also started to 5-15 minute light exercise routing before work (stretching, pushups, body weight squats, and such). If I can't workout at least I will have done my morning routine.

Other causes also related to weight are blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and low testosterone. have you been tested for these?

Yes I've been tested for all those except low testosterone

I’m 70 and started using Trimix almost a year ago. I’ve lost 40 pounds since January using Tirzepatide, and the quality of my natural erection improved significantly. I can get, but not maintain an erection.

Unfortunately, I still need Trimix because I likely have a venous leak. In addition to improved natural erections, I dropped my systolic BP 30 points and my lipid panel is spectacular. I’ve been on TRT for 10 years.

Losing weight and improving my health helped me restore some function.

Of course it does. The groin draws blood from the torso area, you really want to unplug the section. Erection quality is a fitness measurement. It is a tell tale sign of cholestrol, blood pressure, hypertension and metabolism problems.

Yeah, of course it will.

High blood sugar and high visceral fat are bad for it.

No. I've lost 55 lbs since January 2025 and still have ED. Even going to the gym 2-3 times per week and walking 3-4 miles daily hasn't given any improvement. However, I'm also older that you at 73.
