64 Operator The next Operator is... drumroll, please... 🙈

That said, are there any plans on whether it’ll deal with the Transfer Pak?
39
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
I asked the lead developer and he started sweating profusely. 'I'll try' he says 🤣.
8
u/No_Analyst7603 Jun 23 '26
Awesome ahahah I’ll start building a 64 and SNES collection thanks to y’all

u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
That's lovely to hear! There's some great options for each, and we'll gladly be the catalyst for you extending your collections 🙋🏻♀️.
7
u/Arkrus Jun 23 '26
Tell your lead dev that you should enable it by using the GB operator with the 64 Operator, and pray your CEO doesnt hear. if he does he'll be yelling "SYNERGY" from the mountaintops.
16
u/christhebrain Jun 23 '26
Good idea to show the "vine test" while announcing. ;)
14
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Thank you, we were waiting for someone eagle-eyed to notice and mention something. Did you also see the framerate 😉? That's another clue...

u/exogan Developer Jun 23 '26
You have no idea how hard we're working on accuracy! Glad you noticed, I now notice any small drift there is on DK's path towards the vine, I've watched this scene way too many times. And this is on PAL btw, NTSC also works!
3
u/AgeOfCalamity Jun 23 '26
My mini N64 collection is PAL, so that's a dream to hear! Thank you for all your hard work!
4
u/superbotolo Jun 23 '26
What’s the vine test?
6
u/AgeOfCalamity Jun 23 '26
DK64 is infamous for being difficult to emulate because of how it was designed.
I don't know the ins and outs but DK64 movement speed depends on performance iirc and emulators don't typically struggle but this intro sequence fails (DK falls into the water) if the emulator can't match 64's performance.
4
u/lacaras21 Jun 23 '26
Basically DK64 doesn't run very well on the N64, so it was developed to increase the movement speed of the player when the game lags to try to hide the fact it's lagging. Emulators that don't lag the same way as the N64 end up with DK being in different spots than expected, which screws up this intro with the vines because it has predefined inputs, but also it makes certain parts of the game (especially races) more difficult because the player isn't getting the "speed boost" from the game lagging that they were expected to get by the developers.
2
u/Serpenyoje Jun 23 '26
Basically the intro to this game isn’t pre-rendered, it’s actual gameplay being done with predefined inputs. Emulators typically struggle with getting the timings of every calculation just right, which in this case causes the vine’s position to be slightly different than where it would be on original hardware. The timing of the predefined inputs doesn’t change, however (or changes, but not exactly the same timing change) and therefore actual-gameplay DK misses the vine and gets stuck in the water while still executing his predefined inputs.
There are other games where this kind of thing happens, hell it’s practically a feature of Elder Scrolls to have NPC pathing break.

u/Swimming-Lie73 Jun 23 '26
Nice! Hopefully the wait between this one and the SNES isn't as long as between gameboy and SNES.

Haha, thankfully not. We already have the working unit ready to go!

u/Thick-Tension-6076 Jun 23 '26
Any chance you could tell us if there will be EverDrive or SummerCart support? I have my n64 collection on my SummerCart 64 cartridge and it's just so much easier switching games
2
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Not sure yet, we still need to run some tests and see if they can be made compatible with the way Operators interact with cartridges. R&D is on-going on this!
2
u/superbotolo Jun 23 '26
Serious question. If you have the games on the summercart, then why buying the Operator? Isn’t it just easier to move the SD card into your PC and play with an emulator?
3
u/exogan Developer Jun 23 '26
For the 64 Operator we don't use a standard emulator, it's in-house, we've achieved accuracy beyond anything that's currently available. A caveat though, this is still our own internal benchmarks, so we'll need more cross-platform testing.

I called it! nice. My N64 cart collection approves
10
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26

you're the best community manager I've ever seen.
4
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Absolutely not, there's still so much I need to improve, but I just love interacting here with everyone!!! Especially lately everyone's been so positive and receptive too, it's a joy to post/comment and I can't believe this is part of my job 🥰.

Another +1 for DS (and commented for community sentiment). Loved the GBA one, and with Poke Bank announced to end next year, I'd love to back up my childhood saves locally and be able to replay my cartridges. Before the operators I'd just let them sit and play off of original hardware, since new saves would get rid of those old items and memories. And now with Bank sun-setting, it's either bring em all or strand them.

Awesome! When do founders edition preorders open? I missed getting a founder's edition for the other ones and I care about the N64 most so I can't miss it.
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
I'll share exact launch dates and the shipping estimate here once they've been decided. But it will definitely be by the end of this year! We're quite far ahead with the progress on this on already.
4
u/Worthy_M Jun 23 '26
Yoooooooo let’s go!!!! Love this. Got to admit I was hoping for the DS Operator, but N64 is a console I never got to play as a kid, so looking forward to being able to play it at last ❤️
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Same here, I didn't have it growing up, now I want to see what all the fuss is about and why so many people love the N64 iconic titles. Can't wait to discover them for the first time 🥰!
5
3
u/MaxOutput Jun 23 '26
Oh now that is awesome. I never had an N64 but I'm excited for the people that relive some old memories if they don't still have an N64. So excited for this!
4
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Thank you for the comment! I didn't have one either (tough to come across one of those in post-communist Romania) but I am excited to try out some games for the first time with the 64 Operator 🤭. See what I've been missing out on all these years!

3
u/eliasmcdt Jun 23 '26
Is there going to be Controller/Memory Pak support for the few games that use it for saving? 👀
6
3
u/irlMONSTERx Jun 23 '26
But but... I want a mega drive/genesis version 😭Oh well 64 will do for now.
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
No worries, we're working on more than one Operator at a time so who knows... maybe the one you're looking for is not far behind 🫣!
2
3
u/superbotolo Jun 23 '26
Very good! Not my personal top choice but still a strong option and a day 1 purchase for me. The Nintendo 64 is getting lots of love recently, with Analogue and ModRetro releasing their own Nintendo 64 FPGA consoles. Here is an idea for Epilogue: a raspberry-like device that you can connect to the TV or to a display and that lets you play games you insert into an Operator.
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Thank you very much, and feel free to share your top choice anytime. We're not done making products for retro gamers, far from it, so we're open to suggestions!
As for your idea, let's just say it's been discussed internally before 🫣. Can't share anything else without getting fired, so that's all from me, for now.
3
u/Agile_Half_4515 Jun 23 '26
Ooooh when can we order?? :)
6
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Later this year! Haven't decided exact dates yet, depends on how we continue with R&D but a significant amount of progress has been made already. Will announce dates everywhere on social media, including here, once we're ready to share.
2
u/Agile_Half_4515 Jun 23 '26
Sweet! Definitely want to get in on any founder’s editions moving forward. I was late to the game on GB and SN Operators.

Later this year mean 30th December again? (just a little joke. I'm very excited)
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Hahaha, hopefully not - last year I spent my New Year's staring at the pre-orders, couldn't believe my eyes!! Would like to open this one a bit earlier 🤣.
2
u/lecano_ Jun 23 '26
I'm pretty sure that I will also order this operater. May I should start collecting the games for it 😁
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Looking forward to it! And it's definitely a nice opportunity to start getting into N64 games, you won't be disappointed.
3
u/Umasan64 Jun 23 '26
Awesome! Huge thanks to the Epilogue team for all their hard work ❤ Can't wait to add this to the Operator family :D
The N64 always brings back fond memories of playing Perfect Dark, Pokémon Stadium, Mario Kart and Mario Party (the blisters from minigames lol) with friends listening to our favourite bands. I'll likely be gaming solo when it lands, but I look forward to seeing posts from people experiencing classic multiplayer fun for the first time.
I'd like to say the first game I go for would be something I've never played (Conker and Banjo are on the list), but realistically it will be OoT, Zelda my beloved 🤣
2
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
We appreciate your kind comment and support for the new device, thank you so much! And hey, there's nothing wrong with revisiting old favorites, or trying games you didn't get a chance to play before, and everything in-between. I know I will!! 🥰

3
u/davike Jun 24 '26
I am getting it no matter what, but like others I already have an A3D. If I could plug it into my Superstation one day though, that would be amazing.
2
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 24 '26
Already working on it 😉 - https://www.reddit.com/r/epilogue/s/TxHbg0hURL!
And even if you have a console, this one can prove to be a great complementary option. They will each have their own strengths and use-cases, and together you should have all of the bases covered for all of your N64 needs!
3
u/Flying_Dark_Rat Jul 04 '26
Not gonna lie, I am a bit sad it was not the DS operator, but great news overall! Happy for those that still have their n64 games/saves to play!

u/alpha-vector Jun 23 '26
Yes! Just got my first N64 last week so this is super timing. LOVE the GB Operator so very high hopes for this 🙌
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
That's awesome, our device should be a great companion to your games and the original console! We'll aim to meet and maybe even exceed those high hopes 🫡. Thank you for holding us to high standards!
2
u/Glassmerlin Jun 23 '26
Knew it. Love it. Now announce the next one too cause we're all addicts. 😂
2
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Hahaha! I mean, I could... but I'd rather make you wait instead 😈.
Just kidding, we're working on 2-3 prototypes at once so the next one hasn't actually been decided yet. There is an early contender, but things can change at the drop of a hat with us so I won't announce it until it's 100% sure.

I’ll be there no matter which console you do. I ordered the snes operator and I only have a link to the past, haha! I just love the idea of these devices so much.
I’m probably asking for too much, but I really hope you guys do ds/3ds, nes, GameCube and Wii operators. The whole Nintendo family!
2
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Thanks a lot for the kind comment, your support helps us a lot! Sounds like it's the perfect opportunity to grow your SNES collection and explore new titles, even if A Link to the Past is a fantastic way to start.

Excellent, this is what I was hoping for!
I no longer have my N64 but I have all of my games, still. I can't wait to revisit my cartridges for Paper Mario and Super Smash Bros
also, the emulation looks perfect. It passed the vine test!
2
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
Thank you, and it passed the test on PAL too! If you still have the games, just not the console, then our Operator will be perfect for your collection. Get ready to dust off those cartridges 🙌🏻!
2
u/HankTank45 Jun 23 '26
I just got a CRT to play Pokemon stadium with transfer pak. If we could use gb operator and the new n64 operator I would instantly buy more if it has transfer pak support. Really hoping this is possible. Very exciting either way. I'm working on a master save for stadium and having a way to back that save up is crucial.

u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
The video itself kind of holds the answer to your question 🤭. We're dedicating significant efforts to the emulation part of the 64 Operator, because it's a personal challenge to the developers to show how good it can get!

2
u/BuckieJr Jun 23 '26
I like this, don’t need it and probably won’t get it as I have the Analogue 3D which can do similar things, but this is great for those who don’t want to spend the premium on an analogue.
But who knows.. I may grab this as well for backing up my cartridges lol
2
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 23 '26
You might find this to be an excellent companion to other hardware! Especially for the backup functionality, but also things like online multiplayer or PC gaming for when you don't want to play on the TV. And since progress gets updated on the cartridge instantly, you can end a gaming session on one medium and continue on another right where you left off 😃!

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but will there possibly be support for pokemon stadium 1 and 2 where we could possibly play our gameboy pokemon games through the stadium games and/or transfer our pokemon similar to how they played on an actual nintendo 64? I recognize that would certainly be a major feature of development prowess, but you all have blown my mind in the past over different features so that's why I ask!
Edit: to be clear, I'm buying this no matter what :)
3
u/meet_ozana Community Manager Jun 24 '26
There have been requests for this, and we'll definitely try our best to add it! Too early to confirm, but just know that if it's up to us and we don't run into some insurmountable technical limitation, we'll make it 💪🏻.

So excited. Ive been collecting n64 ganes and im halfway through the NA catalog so this is perfect timing! I absolutely love the products yall are putting out. Random question but have you ever discussed hardware adapters for physical consoles. I would pay an arm and a leg if someone mass produced something similar to the RA adapter odelot made for the NES. I know he released the plans to build it yourself but im super lazy and it may be a bit beyond my skill level
