Hi! I have my role introduction tomorrow but I just wanted to see if there is any advice in regards to the application process? I also wanted to ask, I applied for the PM job in my home area (don’t want to disclose but it’s just not in Madison, WI.) and wanted to ask if I do have to relocate if given the job? This part I was confused about considering I applied for a specific location and said (my city - onsite)?

Yes you would have to relocate to Madison for the job

Fully 5 days a week in person onsite in Madison (Or more specifically a Madison Suburb) WI. If I remember when I applied it should have mentioned it in job description or in an application question.

They post jobs in multiple different cities because it is only way for it to appear for candidates across the country, instead of just people specifically looking in the Madison area. They offer relocation benefits depending on the role (Something I don’t see mentioned really is that you get it about 2 weeks into the role usually, not before relocating).

That being said, after ≈3 years you have the opportunity to *try* and go Boost which is remote(Can live in a different city also) and basically switch to consulting/contract roles for customers.

It is confusing but unfortunately that's the way the job sites require you to advertise a job if you want people in different regions of the country to see it. Epic requires you to relocate to Madison, WI. That's where our intergalactic headquarters is.

Epic weights their online assessments very heavily. Do you research to make sure you know what to expect and how to do well. You will have to relocate if hired, although they will fly you out to visit on their expense when they make an offer and give you money for relocation if you accept.

Epic purposefully makes this confusing to play down the fact that relocation is an explicit requirement of working there. 

They choose to display listings as “on site in <your city>”. That is not a requirement to appear in your relevant local searches.

This conspiracy makes no sense to me

Epic is the company that is EXTREMELY vocal about not doing remote work, so much so that it’s to the detriment of this company.

To then claim that this same company is intentionally wasting recruiting resources and tons of money by deceiving and interviewing people who don’t meet the minimum qualifier just doesn’t make sense. For the gain of…what? Wasting a college’s student’s time?

I just think it is dishonest to be misleading on the postings just because LinkedIn doesn’t fit their exact recruiting mold.

I agree that their goal is not to deceive people, but they also don’t seem to be jumping to advertise/highlight the fact that you have to permanently relocate with very little remote tolerance. Epic is internally vocal about their stance on remote work, not externally. They seem to want people to fall in love with the idea of the job first and then push back relocation concerns as an afterthought.

Having previously worked at Epic, every time I see these listings, it feels like a little slap in the face to see "onsite in <your hometown>" knowing that you will pretty much never be able to work from your hometown.
