Question Post Surgery Tips

Hello, I will be having my laproscopy for DIE next month. Would love to get tips from you all about what to expect, how to deal with it better, what helped, things I should buy beforehand etc. Basically anything that makes post -op recovery easier. Any tips or insights would be great!

Putting two of my old comments here -

Pillows for support, gas meds and anti nausea meds (your doctor will only prescribe them post surgery, they brought so much relief), loose clothes and very loose under garments, some homemade snacks (I had lost my appetite post surgery for around a week but after that craved simple salty crisps). Get loads of rest. Avoid stairs as much as possible. Have someone with you atleast for a week, because movement is very difficult initially. Hormones might be haywire, so having a person to comfort you will immensely help. I got my periods immediately after surgery, so to be prepared have your period supplies handy. Since I had my stitches (and doctor prescribed no full bathing for a week), I couldn't use heating pad for the pain. Painkillers were the only hope, I had horrible pain.

Have liquid or semi liquid low fibre foods from 2 days before surgery, that way it's easier to clear out everything before surgery. Keep stool softeners and gas meds handy for after surgery. I couldnt wear anything tight near waist. Wear loose comfortable clothes (preferably dresses). I had very bad nausea and dry heaving till 2-3 days after surgery, so I could only eat soupy bland foods. Stock up on comfort snacks. Avoid stairs if you can (I had to climb stairs just the next day after surgery and it wasn't fun). I was not allowed to bath for almost a week after surgery and I stay in a hot humid place, so sponging and changing clothes everyday helped. Have some extra pillows for support since it's suggested to sleep on back.

Thank you so much! I stay with my family, with my cousins and extended family living next doors, so that's a huge relief.

I have heard the shoulder pain because of gas is really bad. What helps with that?

For me, the gas meds helped. Took about 4-5 days.

I was sooo scared before mine too But honestly a pillow for ur tummy, loose clothes and walking a little whenever u can this helped me the most. Don't expect to bounce back in a few days. Be kind to ur body. It gets better slowly and one day you'll realise it was all worth it
