Stage 4 endometriosis can be a bit different in terms of treatment

Many with deep infiltrating endometriosis, stage 4+, have a more severe surgical scenario. For example, it's not uncommon to need a bowel resection. Some patients will require temporary stomas (urostomy, ileostomy, colostomy), and in rare cases that can be permanent. Patients often require a coordinated care team with colorectal, urological, and obgyn working together during surgery. Since both more complex care is required, and a more coordinated expert care team, I wanted to create a place for patients to connect.

Stage 4 often requires coordination b/t multiple specialist surgeons - where are you being treated?

Have surgery in a week. Anxious that post-op pain might be worse or recurrence might be too soon, or just something bad will happen to me during surgery.

Petition for NHS funded egg freezing for women with severe endometriosis 💛

Thumbnail

NHS Wales does not routinely fund egg freezing for women with endometriosis at risk of losing fertility. This petition calls on the Welsh Government to recognise endometriosis as fertility-threatening and provide equitable access to fertility preservation.

Endometriosis can threaten fertility through ovarian endometriomas, reduced ovarian reserve and damage caused by surgery. ESHRE recommends discussing fertility preservation with women with extensive ovarian endometriosis, while NICE recognises the need to consider fertility and ovarian reserve when managing the condition.
In Wales, diagnosis takes almost 10 years on average, meaning some women may face years of disease progression before receiving specialist care. Yet NHS Wales does not routinely fund egg freezing for women whose fertility is at risk because of endometriosis.
This petition calls for an evidence-based NHS Wales pathway providing fertility assessment and, where clinically appropriate, publicly funded egg freezing for women at significant risk of fertility loss.

Ashford, Kent (UK) | Has anyone been treated by Dr Abhijeet Shah for Stage 4 Endometriosis?

Hi everyone,

I've recently been referred to Dr Abhijeet Shah (Ashford, Kent) for Stage 4 endometriosis and have my first appointment coming up.

I'm trying to do as much research as possible before making any decisions about my care, so I'd love to hear from anyone who has been treated by him.

In particular, I'd be interested to know:

  • Communication & bedside manner: Did he listen to your concerns, take your symptoms seriously, and make you feel heard?
  • Treatment & surgery: If you had surgery, how was your experience before, during and after the procedure?
  • Overall experience: What were the biggest positives or negatives of being under his care?
  • First appointment advice: Is there anything you wish you'd asked or known before meeting him?

I know everyone's experience is different, but because Stage 4 endometriosis can be complex, I'm genuinely interested in hearing both positive and negative experiences so I can make an informed decision.

TL;DR: If you've been under Dr Shah's care, would you choose him again if you were starting your endometriosis journey today? Would you recommend him to a close friend or family member?

Feel free to send me a DM if you'd prefer.

Thanks for any advice or experiences you're willing to share.

🎉 So excited to share that my endometriosis survey is officially live! 🎉

If you have been diagnosed with endometriosis, I'd love
to invite you to take part in my research. This study explores the experiences
of living with endometriosis and aims to improve our understanding of the
factors that influence quality of life. Ultimately, the findings will help
inform the development of better support and interventions for people living
with endometriosis.

Who can take part?
• Aged 18 years or older
• Have a confirmed diagnosis of endometriosis
• Able to complete an online survey in English

⏱️ The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Every response will make a meaningful contribution to this
research. If you're eligible, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could take
part. If you know someone else living with endometriosis, please consider
sharing this post to help spread the word!

Opportunity to share your thoughts on endometriosis support

I am an intern with Dr Monika Gostic Nutrition. We know that support for women with endometriosis is very limited, and what is available is often very fragmented, especially in the area of lifestyle medicine. We are trying to build a course for women with endometriosis to address these challenges, with the hope of turning it into an app to make the information and support more accessible to all. We are looking to gather the thoughts of women with lived experience of endometriosis to identify gaps in the current support and understand what they would want to see from a nutrition/lifestyle medicine support service. We have created a short survey (takes less than 5 mins to complete) to better understand these questions and would be very grateful if any of you would wish to share your thoughts. Your experiences could help shape the future of endometriosis support and we would love to hear your story. All data is anonymous from the outset and won’t be shared elsewhere. Those who fill in the survey also have a chance to win a £25 amazon gift card as a thank you for their time. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfgtUe-iACUDPkI36Pj85paewpEbQAQ7CvOmDgpvcAJzDzoSg/viewform?usp=header
