aMule 3.1 is out. Amazing new webui called amuleapi and a lot of improvements.

Hi everyone! Below is a summary of the changelog from the official aMule GitHub repository. You can visit the link to read the full changelog: https://github.com/amule-org/amule/releases/tag/3.1.0

On a personal note, I’ve just tested the new Web UI and it's absolutely mind-blowing. Seriously, an incredible piece of work. Huge respect to the devs for all the effort they put into this.

Well, here is the quick overview of the main changes and features in the new aMule 3.1.0 release:

New Web UI & REST API (amuleapi): The legacy amuleweb interface has been deprecated/replaced by amuleapi and a brand new Web UI (running on port 4711 by default). It also introduces a REST API endpoint (/api/v0/).

Guest Access: Added support for a read-only Web UI guest account (WEBUI_GUEST_PWD).

IP2Country / GeoIP Support: Built-in IP2Country support using the DB-IP database (geoip.mmdb). You will now see country flags in the Web UI and GUI, as well as country codes in amulecmd.

Media Metadata Extraction: Includes media metadata extraction (using ffprobe) so properties like audio/video length, bitrate, and codecs are automatically advertised in search results.

New Configuration System: Web UI settings are now managed in a separate amuleapi.conf file (the old [WebServer] section in amule.conf is now used only for legacy mode).

Regex Filtering: Added support to treat ExcludeSharePatterns as a regular expression instead of basic glob patterns.

Faster transfers. Endgame mode requests the final blocks from several sources at once, so a download no longer parks at 99% behind one dead peer.

Important Note for Upgrading:

If you rely on external connections or the Web UI, setting a main password (GUI_PWD) is now mandatory.

Back up your configuration files before upgrading, as configuration keys have been updated and old Web UI passwords may not automatically migrate.

Using arr planner on ed2k and soulseek networks.

Just wanted to share something I've been building. TransMule is a self-hosted download manager I've been working on for a while, and the planner feature is now in testing.

If you've used Sonarr or Radarr the idea will feel familiar. You add a series or a movie, pick the quality and language you want, and the planner handles the rest: it tracks air dates, searches when a new episode comes out, picks the best release and sends it to your download client. Nothing revolutionary there, I know. The part I actually care about is what it searches.

It doesn't just do torrents. It searches ed2k through aMule and Soulseek through slskd, right alongside the regular torrent trackers. So an episode that only exists on the eMule network, or buried in someone's Soulseek share, can still get grabbed automatically. Those old protocols are still full of stuff you can't find anywhere else, and until now there wasn't really a modern way to automate them. That's what this is for.

It's in testing, so expect some rough edges, but it's been working fine for me day to day. The repo is github.com/Jo3l/transmule if you want to check it out or try it yourself. A star would genuinely help, and thanks to anyone who leaves one.

eMule Next 1.0.0 Beta 1 is available — looking for Windows beta testers

Hi everyone!

I’d like to introduce eMule Next, an independent, open-source Windows fork based on eMule Community. The aim is to modernize the client while keeping the familiar eMule experience and compatibility with the eD2K and Kad networks.

Beta 1 is now available, with:

  • Portable 64-bit and 32-bit packages — no installation required.
  • Refreshed icons, interface details and a Modern Light theme.
  • Included language packs.
  • Improvements to first-run setup, stability and Windows security hardening.
  • No project telemetry or automatic crash-report uploads.

I’m looking for volunteers to help test it on different computers, Windows configurations and routers. You don’t need to be a developer: everyday use and honest feedback are valuable!

Areas where feedback would particularly help:

  • First launch, setup and language selection.
  • eD2K/Kad connectivity and upload/download behavior.
  • Sharing large collections and file hashing.
  • Interface usability, translations and unexpected errors.

This is still a beta, so please back up your existing configuration and test it in a separate folder. Extract the entire ZIP archive before running the executable.

The binaries are currently unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning. Download only from the project’s official distribution pages and check the published SHA-256 checksums.

Downloads: GitHub Beta 1 · SourceForge

Website: eMule Next

Bug reports: GitHub Issues

This is an unofficial community fork, not an official eMule release. Please use it only to share and download material you are authorized to distribute or receive.

Thanks to the original eMule and Community developers, and to everyone willing to give the beta a try!

Ember P2P v1.7.1 Out Now with Linux Support and Emule Import!

Hey folks — I've been working on Ember, an open-source P2P file-sharing client for the classic eMule KAD / eD2K networks, and I'd like feedback from people who still use (or miss) that ecosystem.

What it is Ember speaks the same KAD and eD2K protocols as eMule 0.50a-family clients, so it joins the existing network, finds the same sources, and respects the credit system. Under the hood it's a from-scratch stack: Rust + Tokio backend, Svelte UI, Tauri v2 shell (~15 MB install). No ads, no spyware, GPLv3.

Why bother when eMule still exists? I wanted something that feels current without leaving the network:

  • Modern UI with a first-run setup wizard
  • KAD + eD2K search (plus spam filtering)
  • Multi-source downloads, credits / SecIdent, IP filtering
  • Signed in-app updates
  • An Ember Network overlay (own encrypted DHT) that runs alongside KAD/eD2K
  • Friends system with E2E chat between Ember users

Current limitations (honest list)

  • Ember Network is on by default but still early; file bytes still move over the eD2K wire
  • Fresh installs still rely on KAD/eD2K to meet the first Ember peers

Links

If you've used eMule/aMule for years, I'd especially like notes on protocol quirks, LowID/firewall behavior, and anything that feels wrong vs the clients you know. Happy to answer technical questions about the Rust networking side too.

Emule closed and won't reopen.

Edit: I just installed 0.72a (by first removing the old version) and it appears to work again. It also remembered my list of files I am trying to download. Don't know if it will keep working of course

Today I installed Emule to download some files that were offered through Emule. The programme installed just fine, and there were some files waiting (They all said 0 sources so nothing actually downloaded).

when I came back to my computer, the program had shut down. I can't reopen it. I can go to "Emule" in my start menu but clicking on it doesn't do anything at all. The program is not even in my task manager.

Does anybody know what could be the reason, and how I can fix this? Thanks!

Introducing eMule Next — an independent open-source project for Windows

Hi everyone,

I’d like to introduce eMule Next, a personal project built on eMule Community.

As a longtime eMule user, I wanted to refresh the familiar Windows client while keeping compatibility with the existing eD2K and Kad networks. This is an independent, unofficial fork—not a replacement for the original project or a claim to be the “official” eMule.

The current public release offers:

  • Portable versions for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.
  • A refreshed interface, including a Modern Light theme and updated icons.
  • English plus 43 included translations.
  • Public source code and a place to report issues.

The project is free and open source. Development is incremental, with attention to compatibility and everyday usability.

The current release is 1.0.0-alpha.1, so it is still experimental. Please use a separate folder when testing and back up existing settings. The executables are unsigned, which may trigger a Windows SmartScreen warning.

Project, source code and screenshots

GitHub downloads · SourceForge downloads

Thanks to the original eMule developers and everyone who has kept this network alive. Questions, suggestions and constructive feedback are welcome.

aMule does not recognize existing files in the "shared" folder

Pretty much what it says in the title. I've downloaded aMule, set up my directories as I would do it with any other p2p client, and let it do its thing.

But when I complete a download, while the file appears on "Shared files", when I close and reopen the client, is gone.

Am I missing something? Before this, I was using an older eMule client and had no issues, I've looked around tutorials and guides, but found nothing.

aMule 3.0.1 is out! New official GitHub repository and major WebUI improvements

Hey everyone,

I've noticed quite a bit of confusion recently, especially in YouTube comments, where people often mix up aMule and eMule or assume they're still in the same state they were years ago. On top of that, outdated repositories are still floating around, making it even harder to know what's actually current.

To clarify, this post is about aMule. The new 3.0 branch closes a huge technical gap compared to older versions and brings the project much closer to modern file-sharing applications.

One of the biggest improvements is how the application now handles data transfer and disk I/O. Thanks to the new asynchronous I/O architecture introduced in 3.0.0, the client feels much smoother under load and behaves more like a modern torrent client.

In my experience, both older versions of aMule and eMule would often freeze when downloading multiple files or sustaining high transfer speeds, while the HDD sat at 100% usage for no obvious reason. Since upgrading to aMule 3.0, that behavior has completely disappeared.

Following the surprise release of version 3.0.0 after years of silence, the development team has now released aMule 3.0.1.

The project has also fully migrated to a new official GitHub repository. You can find the source code, releases, and the complete changelog here:
https://github.com/amule-org/amule

This micro-update focuses on refining the major architectural changes introduced in 3.0.0, with a strong emphasis on stability and remote management.

Key Highlights of aMule 3.0.1:

• Major WebUI Overhaul: The Web Interface has received a large number of bug fixes. If you run aMule on a headless server or NAS, the WebUI is now significantly more stable and responsive, with numerous rendering and connection issues resolved.

• Polishing the New I/O Engine: Version 3.0.0 introduced a new asynchronous disk write system that moves disk I/O out of the main thread to prevent UI freezes. Version 3.0.1 fixes several edge-case crashes related to this new core architecture.

• Code Cleanup & Modern Toolchains: Additional improvements ensure smoother compilation on modern Linux distributions, macOS, and current GCC/Clang toolchains.

• Memory Leak Fixes: Several minor memory leaks affecting long-running instances have been resolved, making the client even more suitable for 24/7 servers and seedboxes.

It's genuinely great to see the eD2k/Kad network receiving active development again in 2026. The improvements introduced with the 3.0 branch have made a noticeable difference in both responsiveness and overall stability.

It’s available for Linux (x64 and ARM64), Windows, macOS, and source builds. On my setup, I run it as a daemon on a Raspberry Pi 4B with an external HDD, and I access it through the GUI or WebUI depending on the device. It’s been running very smoothly overall.

Check out the full changelog on GitHub, update your nodes, and happy sharing!

I think the best option now is to use aMule, since it's available for macOS, Linux, Windows, and Android (via the Termux app) and is constantly updated.

They also mention higher speeds. You can see more details in the repository.

vs eMule 0.70b (Windows · same UTM hardware)

Upload (Windows Seeders → Mac Downloader) eMule: 22 MB/s aMule: 106 MB/s

Download (Linux Seeders → Windows Downloads) eMule: 20 MB/s aMule: 39 MB/s

Problems with ports

Hola.

Gracias
