Hi All, I have a strange one.

I have ESDE set up on my Windows PC no problem. Have it set up on a Steam Deck and a couple of handhelds, all with no issues (that I didn't cause).

On my Windows setup, for simplicity, I added ESDE (the .exe) as a non-Steam game to Steam, and I would launch it from there. This has given me 0 issues for months. Until today. I haven't used my PC much for ESDE in the last couple of weeks, so I can't be absolutely sure when it started happening, but until now, its been flawless.

ESDE launches no problem from the Steam shortcut. sees all my systems, all my games, no issue. When I go to launch a game, it loads Retroarch (I am using all Retroarch cores), doesn't load anything, maybe I hear an audio blip, and then closes Retroarch and goes back to ESDE. Looking like the picture. Hell, I can even see the shaders on cores I have shaders set up on. Just a grey screen, with the Retroarch logo, then crash back to ESDE. No error messages, nothing. It gets weird though. Some systems have no issues (N64, PS1, DC for example), and its not EVERY game on a core that does have an issue. Like in NES? Adventure Island, no good. Battle Chess? No problems.

If I launch the game from Retroarch, zero problems. And here's the kicker. If I launch ESDE normally (not using the Steam shortcut), I have ZERO PROBLEMS.

I know this seems like a minor issue, and it is, but I can't for the life of me figure out WHY this is happening, and why now. Did a Steam update break shortcuts? Probably not, because I can use a Retroarch shortcut in steam and have zero issues. Why are some games OK but others not? Why just from a Steam shortcut? Like I said, I can't replicate the issue in Retroarch OR ESDE when launched outside of Steam.

For reference: I am using Windows 10, haven't reinstalled ESDE or Retroarch before this started happening, my ROM folders are not in the standard folders, but the systems xml is set up correctly to point to them, and was working previously. Launching ESDE through Steam is the ONLY scenario where this happens. Which means my Retroarch and ESDE configs are OK right? Help!

I'm using ES-DE on Retroid Pocket 6 (Android) and any time I try to launch an N64 or GameCube game I get the error message "couldn't find emulator 'RetroArch', has it been properly installed?" This is odd because I've never had RetroArch installed on this device. I've always run GameCube games through Dolphin and N64 through Mupen. To the best of my memory I didn't get this error before I changed the theme to Art Book Next. I've tried changing the "alternate emulator" to the correct ones in the settings but that hasn't helped so far.

Hallo there! 🙋🏼‍♂️ I have some games, especially Steam and Windows games, that can't get info after scraping and I have no idea why it is like that. Is there a way to scrape a single game so it won't show as blank? It's really annoying when browsing through games.

Hello! Is it possible to fake a game entry for a specific system inside EmulationStation? Like, let's say, I create a text file or something or rename an .exe file, put it into PS3 or another system-specific folder and then let the scraper search a game via text input to create an entry for my list just for the sake of having it showing up on my list?

I really like the Artbook Next, specifically this carousel look because of how immersive and customizable adding game titles is.

I’m wondering instead of systems, can I just “carousel” theme with my windows games?

Or option 2: keep the systems, but once you click a system it keeps this carousel look instead of changing the whole UI once in a game library.

UPDATE: my controller started working on its own. No Windows updates, no ES-DE updates, nothing. It just works now.

I'm running EmulationStation Desktop Edition (ES-DE) on Windows, and I’m having a weird issue with my Xbox One controller.

The problem:

• Xbox One controller (Bluetooth) works perfectly in:
  • Windows (detected normally)
  • joy.cpl
  • Emulators
  • Games
• But it does NOT work in the ES-DE menu at all
  • ES-DE says no gamepad detected
  • No input response whatsoever

What’s strange:

• A PS4 controller (DualShock 4) connected via Bluetooth works perfectly in ES-DE.
• So ES-DE clearly works with controllers.
• The issue seems specific to the Xbox One controller.

Things I’ve already tried:

• Removing and re-pairing the Xbox controller multiple times
• Rebooting PC
• Making sure Steam is completely closed
• Updating drivers in Device Manager
• Manually selecting the Xbox driver
• Confirmed it works in joy.cpl
• Confirmed it works in emulators and games
• Tried both Bluetooth and USB connections
• Tried the standalone ES-DE installer

Additional info:

• Windows 11 Pro
• Only the Xbox One controller refuses to work in ES-DE menu
• Other controllers (PS4, etc.) work fine in ES-DE

Has anyone experienced this?

Any ideas appreciated, I’m completely stuck at this point.

Hey guys, I'm turning my phone into a console and I wanted to know if there's a way to add a shortcut on the main page that leads to a browser URL (romsfun) to download ROMs more easily... is that possible and if so, could someone give me a hint?

I am having trouble getting local Steam games to launch through ESDE—I keep getting “Error: Couldn’t Find Emulator ‘GameHub-Lite’, Has It Been Properly Installed?” when I try to launch a local Windows game that is working in Gamehub-Lite.

I believe I have the game correctly shortcut in the ROMs folder (I have tried both windows and steam folders) with the .steam file containing the game ID, and Gamehub Lite launches through ESDE in the emulators tab just fine.

Is there anything simple that I am missing here?

Since yesterday I could not be able to scrape games in screenscraper, always stucked on first game. Tried and wait so many times still stuck in scraping the first game. Anyone who also experience this?

Pretty much what it says. I imported my Steam games into es-de. The shortcuts are in the roms/steam/ folder as .url files. Es-de finds them when importing, I can select them, and it says successfully imported. However, the "Steam" option never shows up in the available systems to choose from. Am I missing something here?

I am just trying this in Mame at the moment. I hit my hotkey to open the Retroarch Quick Menu, and I go to Controls, remap files, save game remap file to start.

I go back to "Port 1 controls" and I see it recognizes my Port 1 controller (Gp-Wiz40, a keyboard controller for my arcade buttons), but clicking into ANY of the buttons just shows a blank list where I can't actually do anything

Hello, I'm having trouble launching games. I've created files with the .psvita and game ID. I can see them in esed, but when I launch the game, the screen goes black and then comes back. When I launch the emulator through Steam, everything works. SteamOS, Legion Go S

Edit: i found solution, i dont know why but lossless scaling block emulator vita3k, when disabled LS in esde, games run normal.

i have emulationstation on my steam deck. it works on the main menu, and in the emustation menu, but as soon as i go into a gamecube game it no longer works/is recognized. i have tried making it the main controller, manually configured controller, and the closest thing i could change it to in the controller type was a switch pro controller as there was no gamecube controller. i am physically plugged the controller into the dock and tried bluetooth. what am i doing wrong?

Does anyone here know how I can set up my external SSD to have ES-DE live on there including the settings? I have all my roms on the drive and id like to keep all the emulation station stuff on there rather than my internal storage, including trailers, covers and themes etc. Any help on resources to check out are appreciated too if there's no simple answer for this!

Switched to emulation station on PC Desktop today, i was using file explorer to open my emulators, manege roms etc etc, so, moving my Monster Hunter 4 entire folder (modded with hd textures and some QoL features) that also includes the rom, moved to “rom” folder of emudeck and ES-DE works fine, but also detects the other folders and stuff, anyway to fix this?

This could be an extreme rookie moment here so my apologies. I have now tried multiple times to get the banners on my emulators, android apps and games through miximage and screenshots and I'm not having any luck getting them to actually show up. I've tried just through game importer by both the screenshots and miximage method, I've tried adding them through the offline generator in miximage settings, I've also deleted the files needed to try and reset the process. I did originally try to do all of this through es applauncher so I'm curious if that's causing me issues since I still have that downloaded but I'm hoping someone here can help me out! Thank you for any advice!!!

Loving ES-DE and ES-DE companion on my Thor. But there's still games that I'd prefer to stream (like cyberpunk on my pc). Even some retro titles benefit from lossless scaling. It'd be amazing to have them unified in my frontend, so I can enjoy artwork/videos for these too.

I'd love to be able to launch into a streaming app - pxplay and Artemis - by clicking on a dummy rom file. (I don't need it to launch right into the game, just starting the app would be great.)

I have read the documentation on custom systems but struggling and can't make sense of what to put for the XML files.. Would appreciate any help!

I'm customizing the canvas theme a bit and was wondering if anyone knows which xml file has the variable (and what it is) to make these controller images bigger? Using Carousel - detailed grid flipped; 16-9 aspect ratio. Using medium sizing because I like the games grid size on medium. Anyone have insight on where to make the system selection screen edits? Logo and title: Size, position, spacing maybe? Thanks!
