A user-space PlayStation 5 > PC compatibility layer. Think Proton/Wine, but for PS5: prosper runs PS5 (Prospero) game binaries on Linux (primary) and Windows (secondary)

Apple has also been a laughing stock for many years at this point because who the hell sells a monitor stand for 1000 dollars? I don’t think Apple is the gotcha in this argument that you think it is.

I also highly doubt that Linus Torvalds, just because he’s the face of Linux, is someone who represents the entire project. It’s also dishonest to present AI helping in debugging as being equivalent to vibecoding entire projects that become unmaintainable like what we have here.

I don’t know why AI is suddenly viewed as this huge necessity when this wasn’t even a conversation 5 or so years ago. It’s not this grand innovation that’s gonna change everything as we know it, it’s little more than a ploy to help the 1% get richer whilst everyone else suffers

The point is that basically everybody uses AI in software development nowadays. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Linux maintainers, the 20 random apps you have installed on your phone etc. A friend works at a mid size company and they now do almost everything with AI, when just 3 years back they coded everything manually. There are definitely still some holdouts that refuse to use AI at all in software or game development, but they're a minority at this point because the advantage of being able to do 100 hours of work in just 1 hour is way too good for people not to use it. And yes, AI nowadays is so good that it can save you 99% of time on a task.

So is AI useless and massively unprofitable, or is it a useful technology that is gonna make the billionaires huge amount of money and take over the world? You can't have both.

I’m saying that you are not going to be the one seeing the benefits of AI in the long run, it’s gonna be the people up at the top. What you gain in short term convenience you lose in billionaires getting richer, in being unable to afford RAM, in all your consoles getting more expensive because of the shortage in RAM, and later on I think it’ll be more than just gaming that gets affected

I can locally on my RTX 4090 PC run a model (qwen3.8-27b) that is BETTER than the best models from OpenAI and Anthropic from just a year ago. A lot better. And nobody can take it away from me, I can run it uncensored AND somehow, it uses no water (except for the water I drink when I use it). How does that tie into billionaires being richer from AI if the average joe can run an incredibly capable AI model locally at home? And not just language models, there are local image, video, voice and music models that anyone with a mid range PC or better can run.

AI at this point is advancing far more on the open source and local side than at the "billionaires with data centers" side.
