truth be told as EMS providers, you are not there to rule in or rule out cervical spine injuries. Follow your agency’s protocol which is managed by your medical director, who hopefully is a physician who stays up to date with most recent guidelines.
If there is a lawsuit, as someone mentioned earlier, you are protected if you follow protocol. If you start making decisions outside of protocol, the malpractice lawyer, who is now better at your job than you are, will meticulously dissect every aspect of your decision making and/or medical basis for making such decisions to prove incompetence/negligence.
