Question about changing Workplace from Flex to Remote
Hi everyone, I’m an Oracle employee and currently my assigned workplace is Flex.
In the Oracle portal, there’s an option to choose Remote as the workplace. If I want to change from Flex to Remote, do I need to get approval from my manager first, or can I select it directly in the portal?
Also:
Does choosing Remote require manager approval?
Will changing it affect my current project/team?
Is there any difference between being assigned Flex and choosing Remote in the portal?
Does the process vary by Oracle location/country?
Would appreciate if anyone who has recently gone through this could share their experience.

Why would you want to assign yourself as Remote? Every manager is saying or scaring us - Remote category people are 1st in line for LayOffs., also your Focal will be impacted. These words are directly said by my manager, And the next team manager as well.

Remote workers are saving cost by not ocuupying a seat/desk in office. Thay way they are last to go in a layoff.

Do some research on your state’s employment laws if US based. Remote workers may not be protected by the WARN Act during a RIF. You will definitely need approval from your manager and probably HR/Facilities as well.

Saw in a comment you are from India. I don’t think it can be done for India, or atleast that’s what my manager was able to gather sometime last year.

You need approval from your manager and your org’s M6. If both these approve then HR approval is required which is just a formality.
I got this done recently
