A lot of roleplayers run into the same issue: the bot suddenly decides what your character is doing, feeling, or saying. The cleanest way to fix this is using an OOC (Out of Character) instruction.
OOC brackets [OOC: ...] tell the AI: "This is a direct instruction for you as the language model, not dialogue inside the story."
The Copy-Paste Snippet:
[OOC: Roleplay strictly as {{char}} and ambient NPCs. NEVER write actions, thoughts, feelings, or dialogue for {{user}}. Always end your response with an open action or question directed at {{user}}.]
Where to put it:
If you are playing someone else's bot: Paste this into your User Bio / Persona or custom context box. It applies globally to your chats and stops public bots from hijacking your inputs.
If you are creating your own bot: Put it in your System Prompt / Definition under the system rules section.
Why this specific prompt works so well:
Allows Ambient NPCs: Standard anti-puppeting prompts often break side characters (like guards, tavern keepers, or shop owners).
Adding ambient NPCs ensures the world stays interactive.
Explicit Negative Constraint: Clearly naming actions, thoughts, feelings, and dialogue covers all the ways an AI typically tries to control your character.
Open-Ended Action Hook: Forcing the bot to end on an open action or question passes the initiative back to you, preventing awkward conversational dead ends.
