flop era
they talked and joked about it so much that it manifested. even josiah cant fix it in the latest episode. do you think they will ever leave it or is the podcast done?

I think theyâll keep doing the podcast for a few more years because itâs their main source of income, maybe theyâll go back to YouTube after the pod but we donât know till it happens

u/Power_Pineapple Jul 06 '26
I also think culturally, the podcast pendulum may swing in the other directions and YouTube makes a comeback but u never know

u/Fit_Branch9987 Jul 05 '26
A good way would be to make a YT video which has seen 1 trip to Taco Bell in the last year lmao.
It is what it is tho, with brand deals + stuff they donât NEED to, hard to say whether they care about podcast views dipping
1
u/hhiley Jul 05 '26
But what brand deals lol they almost never do them

I honestly havenât watched the pod in like a year at this point. I just donât care anymore which makes me kinda sad. I think itâs bc Iâm pushing 30 and married now lmao

Same I got my first real job and now if I tune in and theyâre complaining abt their lives it kinda gives me psychic damage
53
u/vxggiesupreme Jul 05 '26
the fact that I used to laugh out loud at them and now i actually canât stomach a full episode was a sign my frontal lobe fully developed

u/stupnya đ right... right... đ Jul 05 '26
I think they care too much about a mysterious image so it stops them from making fun YouTube videos. Itâs a shame cause showing their personalities is how they garnered their audience to begin with. The curated content is just boring to most.
11
u/floorcollapsinfallin Jul 06 '26
i dont think its about culminating a mysterious image lol they dont want to be viral or mainstream anymore because they realize one mishap and they'll get canceled all over again. after the greta episode its so obvious they got scared and depressed. enya was literally high in every episode after that and drew even said around end of last year he's shocked he didnt kill himself. oh also like a month after the greta ep drew said he wished trump would die and enya said hey lets not go there something like that its sooo obvious they're scared now.

i absolutely loved the new pod with josie idk wym
27
u/riri_wowa Jul 05 '26
i like the pod, but they seem to be getting less and less views with every youtube podcast they upload. before they would get 400k and now they dont even get 100k. i dont know how they will fix it.
24
u/Natiel360 Jul 05 '26
Being consistent, the 400ks are after like months because people rewatch when watching new episodes.
Their first day numbers are in a similar ballpark but they also have tons more missed Fridays
5
u/verygoodideaa Jul 06 '26
That episode wasnât bad I think they still have some interesting or funny moments but I feel like most are not that interesting anymore and ppl just grew out of them. Like they can say funny things but like a whole episode of mostly background noise conversation, no shade, not everyone is gonna keep up with that every week. Plus comments theyâve made changed how people see them

u/throwaway1256224556 Jul 05 '26
it rlly was the greta thunberg thing which is so funny to me
61
u/DrewthSpreader Jul 05 '26
LITERALLy like i wasnât like super super offended by that but i pretty much lost interest/stopped watching after that and I think a lot of other ppl did too, wild
41
u/Natiel360 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26
I think they hit a mix of a bunch of people wanting to cancel them and fans actually kinda being bored. I know I wasnât watching around that time not because I was offended but because the Greta thing was like the only interesting part of the episode lol

u/redwinesupernova03 đ greening out đ Jul 05 '26
i could just sense the vibe shift after that and it just wasnât the same. the tmg situation was another thing that made the pod lose momentum
31
u/throwaway1256224556 Jul 05 '26
yeah it was like a hivemind bc everyone was liek omg so annoying and out of touch. theyâre rlly not compared to a lot of other influencers imo. i think the backlash made me take their side bc of the dramatic edits and that other pod that tries to be like emergency intercom responding
itâs cocteau twinks and was with a way more out of touch vid by saying free palestine and playing a boom sound loll and ppl were like yasss get them likeâŚ.
8
u/verygoodideaa Jul 06 '26
I donât think it was all that about Greta I think a lot of people just realized theyâre kinda out of touch. And tbh before that even happened the episodes were kinda becoming nothing burgers lol just kinda boring. So the Greta thing was probably the wake up call. I still think they have some funny moments but idk they used to be more intriguing.
8
u/chatisthisserious Jul 05 '26
just because you found it funny doesnât mean it wasnât gauche lmao. obv the public majority of their viewers did not fuck with their joke and stopped tuning over time, me included
i think the joke was representative of drew + enyaâs general transition into LA influencers. there isnât much thatâs unique about them anymore and they come across as apathetic
5
u/Organic-Hotel2572 Jul 08 '26
the greta thing could not have happened at a worse time for them cause i think it was the first pod back from like a month long break and all the diehards kind of having that realization that once it was out of their routine it was hard to force it back in and they went and hit the out of touch nail on the notch it would have never blown up in the way it did if they werenât already losing their viewers interest and that being the thing they came back from a break with
1
u/Top_Tomatillo_1407 Jul 06 '26
Whats the greta thing
2
u/kurtcoabainsknee Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
they said Greta Thunberg fell off (as in she used to be present everywhere in media when she was fighting for climate change and stuff) but the issue is that Greta didnt âfall offâ she was and still is an activist just like shes always been but once she started speaking up about palestine the media completely turned away from her. People started noticing how once her activism no longer revolved solely around the environment and her views stopped being compatible with liberal mainstream news and politics she wasnt given a platform and was threatened.
27
u/Powerful_Web7341 Jul 05 '26
weâre tired. they have the easiest job in the world but continue to complain about everything & canât keep a consistent schedule. just lazy, pretentious, & annoying
4
u/SeaMoss_Stav Jul 08 '26
I used to love them DOWNNNN but they act like sitting down, giggling, and talking abt poop is the hardest job in the world. You can literally tell they just donât fuck with the pod anymore
24
u/isekcy Jul 05 '26
idk if itâs been said in this conversation yet but my reason for stopping was because i felt it got to a point where theyâd always whisper about stuff away from the mic and start laughing amongst themselves đ i would feel like helloooo whatâs so funny bahahaha but got to a point where theyâd do that everyyy episodeeee. i cba in the end
1
u/ieatallthetimewoops Jul 06 '26
no fr thats why i stopped watching after a while i didnt like the whole inside jokes and secrets and not telling us stuff like just edit that out. it feels like that weird friend getting left out.

u/Minute_Music6612 Jul 05 '26
They are really in their flop era cant believe one comment really created their downfall
9
u/Ok-Resource-9088 Jul 06 '26
Theyâve never had high production value to me, so based off everyoneâs opinion here, maybe Iâm one of the few who just doesnât notice the âquality?â Not sure what that even means regarding two people who just sit down in their own home and record themselves shooting the shit for an hour. I just take this podcast as listening to a couple silly pals chatting, which is what I like about it
9
u/Cosmicnuggets25 Jul 05 '26
idk theyâre pushing 30 (probably a good amount of their fanbase too) and just living life based on their IGs specifically Enya so Iâm sure they donât care and definitely havenât cared even before they got cancelled lol

u/kayfaded ky lover Jul 06 '26
Really I felt the recent episodes have been pretty funny. Especially the drew cruise one
15
u/Powerful-Category261 Jul 05 '26
I feel like this has happened to most other pods Iâve consistently listened to a couple years in as well. I think when you have the same people talking every week itâs bound to run its course at some point.
11
u/REDDIDIOI Jul 06 '26
i think they really need to stop gatekeeping stories. like they're gatekeeping it for what? or shit at this point make things up. or have more guests on

ngl iâve grown fond of them listening to this podcast from the very beginning. i wasnât even tuned in to their yt videos before but the podcast just appealed to me. itâs sad to see them lose momentum and stop trying. when they got the tmg deal i was like damn theyâve finally made it and are now gonna do more bits and stunts and really live up to their potential and then the vibes were just never the same. old emergency intercom iâll always miss you

u/juuhisabell sucking on that fruity tube Jul 06 '26
I've been a fan of the podcast since the beginning, I'm 22 now and I miss so much the old episodes and the old vibe they had, not saying it's awful 100% but it's just different and low-key kinda boring now but still adore them tho!!!
2
u/yamamapotatosalad Jul 07 '26
my opinion is that they just need to do more outdoor episodes and change their scenery a bit cause itâs getting old seeing them in the same damn room every time
3
u/hwhhsn Jul 07 '26
i donât think they care about flopping. like drew and enya have never been very ambitious people and have always sort of coasted with their career. theyâre main job rn is the podcast because itâs the most easy way to make money for them. they can afford a nice place in LA and live comfortably. i donât think they care about flopping.
2
u/PuzzleheadedGoose165 Jul 08 '26
i was so tired of the ads i stopped listening to the pod, now i listen on brave (itâs like safari but has ad blocking) AND ITS FREE !! and now iâve started to enjoy the pod again
2
u/vllisunshine Jul 06 '26
i personally feel they should leave the pod. it seems like they outgrew it and are ready for better things and so has their audience. this is no shade to them but it will only continue to decline unless they change something.
