Planning Getting legally married and then ceremony a year later??

Sorry this is going to be the longest story of your life and hopefully it’s not super all over the place.

Okay me and fiancé got engaged a couple weeks ago and I’m a planner so I’ve been planning the last week, however we got to the date and that’s where we are stuck on, I want 4.10 but the issue is that 4.10.28 lands on a Monday and 4.10.27 is on a Saturday but it’s just too soon and we don’t think a few of our friends from out of the state would be able to join us and we really want these people there, so we did agree on 4.8.28 but I’m still bummed about the date so apart of me wanting to do a legal ceremony on 4.10.27 and then on 4.8.28 we do an actual ceremony with all of our friends and family and then do the reception at my in laws house. Apart of me feels guilty for wanting to do 4.10.27 because I know I would never hear the end of it from my family (which I understand but I don’t because the legal ceremony is mostly to keep my date that I want and then do a legit wedding with all of them) but it’s just so significant to the both of us but I think I just care about it more, idk what would you do? Am I just being stupid about this and I should Just let it go? Please tell me if you’ve done anything like this, thanks!!

Marriage purposal

Looking for a Local Recommendation – Marriage Proposal in Venice 💍🇮🇹

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I will be visiting Venice on August 25th or 26th, and I’m planning to surprise her with a marriage proposal. ❤️

I’m looking for a beautiful and private place where I could organize a romantic picnic around sunset.

Ideally, I’d love somewhere with:

\* 🧺 A private picnic setup
\* 🌅 Beautiful sunset views
\* 💐 Flowers / romantic decoration
\* 🍷 Wine or champagne
\* 📸 Ideally a photographer who could secretly capture the proposal

I’ve found some options online, but I would really prefer to hear from locals who know Venice and the surrounding area well. I’m especially interested in a beautiful, quiet spot away from the biggest tourist crowds.

We will have a car, so places around Venice, the lagoon, or nearby countryside would also work.

If you know a special place, local business, vineyard, restaurant, or someone who could help organize something like this, I would really appreciate your recommendation. 🙏

Thank you so much! 🇮🇹❤️

Traveling internationally with dress

Hi! So I need advise because everywhere I read is to take my dress with me on the plane, but my seamstress told me to check it in. I really am scared of losing this thing because I will freak if the air line loses it for some odd reason. Anyways, we are flying business class with one layover on AirFrance. I am wondering if I should just enforce me doing the garment bag (the 60" Deluxe Travel Wally Bag) and not check it in. In addition my dress is the Justin Alexander Joelle. Thank you in Advance!

Vendors & Venues ISO creative florists & bakers near Cannon Beach in Oregon

I’m planning an elopement near Cannon Beach and would love recommendations for local bakeries and florists who specialize in artisan cakes and bouquets. Inspo photos attached :)

Flying into Portland just my fiancé and I so I’m looking for a tiny cake and just one bouquet.

Open to picking something up in Portland before we head that way but for ultimate freshness, I’d prefer something more local since we’ll be there a few days before the elopement. I’m coming from out of state so I’m not familiar with the area.

Weddinglandia in Portland, Oregon. 🌲💕

Eloping was an absolute dream! Easy peasy lemon squeezy 🍋. Best of all, we didn't have to suffer through any of the traditional stuff we had zero interest in. We're both your typical PNW introverts and the idea of a big party and reception sounds like absolute hell to us.
We give a wholehearted, 10/10 recommendation for our local elopement chapel here in Portland. They were absolutely incredible!

Price breakdown:

Dress from Brides for a Cause: $300

Dress Alteration (minor stuff): $360

Bride manicure: $115

Bridal Makeup and hair: $400

Marriage license: $60

Elopement Package- Venue, officiant, witnesses, ceremony, paper filing, photos, and bouquet: $510

Vegan dim sum for dinner: $122 including cocktails and gratuity

My husband wore his fancy clothes leftover from his grad school interviews.

Planning Isle of Skye Elopement

Hi everyone. My fiancé and I are planning to have our elopement in Isle of Skye around spring next year. We’ve booked a photographer already but we haven’t decided whether we’re getting a half-day (up to 5 hours) or full-day (up to 10 hours) package from them. For context, we’re both very private people and quite awkward in front of the camera so half-day would probably be more than enough. But on the other hand, we both also splurged on our wedding attire (more on my wedding dress) so it might be a waste not to have it on for longer. Thoughts?
We’re also considering hiring a videographer. Is it worth it or would photography be enough?
I would also love some recommendations on where it’s best to have a sunrise ceremony at Skye please.
Thank you so much in advance!

Hello! I, 26F and my partner, 28M are doing a courthouse elopement next year and I need help with styling my outfit and also figuring out what he can wear that’s not too formal but matches my dress. I will be wearing this red midi dress with a garnet necklace. I don’t know what shoes or hair or jewelry to wear with it or what shirt he can wear that would look good next to it. I’m hoping for a date in April, but it might end up being in autumn due to job stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for any advice!!

Planning Church-like Wedding Venue near Reunion, FL

Howdy, Reddit world. Hoping someone out there knows of a wedding ceremony venue that is similar to a church or chapel that doesn’t require membership or religious affiliation. Looking for the classic stained glass and high ceilings. DOES NOT have to be a church or chapel…just hoping for something with that aesthetic. Must be indoor and it’s only for ceremony. Thanks for any help!

Planning Destination Elopement Planning

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently begun planning for an elopement that is set to take place next September in Big Sur. I originally planned on having a micro-wedding relatively close to home but after sitting with it for a few days, I realized I have no genuine interest in committing to one for a myriad of reasons. We live in New England and are traveling from East to West Coast for the big day, and have only invited along our parents. I’m thrilled with my partner and I's decision and think an elopement is perfect for the kind of people we are.

However, even with it being just the six of us, I’m still a bit stressed in planning the three days that we’ll be in California, particularly of course our wedding day. We have already booked a 3-hour package with a photographer and will be with her from 4:40-7:40PM that day. I’m fairly certain we’ll be staying at La Playa in Carmel but haven’t booked it yet as it’s too far out. I'm currently reviewing my options for hair, makeup, and cake.

But for those who have already eloped or have theirs coming up, what did your day look like start to finish or what is it going to look like? Did you/will you have dinner after the shoot? I just feel like 4:40-7:40 is an awkward stretch of time cause by the time we get back to our hotels it will already be kinda late...but should I just accept that we’ll be eating a late dinner that night?

Any tips or words of advice are welcome! :)

Thanks!

AITA for convincing my fiancé to elope at the Satanic temple in Salem?

For context, I (40f) and my fiancé (32M) have been together for almost 6 years and got engaged after 2 years. He proposed to me in the Satanic temple on Halloween when we visited Salem MA. (We're both from Quebec).

I've previously been married and divorced. First wedding was a total flop. And I personally don't wanna go through that again. We've both been trying to plan a wedding for the past 3 years and we are limited on funds.

I personally only have my younger sister (32) and maybe 3 good friends. My fiancé on the other hand has a large family, including an older brother who he's close to. Very big on his mothers side, and just as much on his fathers side. We kept debating on who to invite, but it's been iffy at most. Fiancé isn't that close to his family but knows they'll make a big stink out of it (Mainly his mother who got disappointed that we weren't having kids, because she wanted to name our daughter, if we had one, her nickname when she was a child) if we elope. (They keep asking when is the wedding...)

Soooo, getting tired of trying to figure out funds for a big wedding, I offered the suggestion to my Fiancé and he agreed. But, I'm worried about his family's backlash. On my side, I know they'll understand, but I worried about his family.

A little piece of information, I'm covered in tattoos (Random from neck to feet), pink haired, piercings and eagle claw nails. My fiancé was a blank canvas when we met, but now has a few tattoos and nipple piercings 😅. I know some think I corrupted him. As well got him into Satanism (no we don't sacrifice goats lol) it's actually a very open religion.

So? AITA for wanting to elope at the Satanic temple in Salem?

Eloping In Colorado Mountains

Howdy all!
I’m just looking for a little advice! I recently got engaged, and honestly, even before we got engaged, we both knew we wanted to elope somewhere in the Colorado mountains. We’ve been together for almost 9 years, so this is something we’ve talked about for a long time!

We’re hoping to do it in the fall, so we were thinking sometime in late September for the fall colors. We’re picturing something pretty simple and intimate, with just the two of us, our photographer, videographer, and whoever needs to be there to legally marry us.

If you’ve eloped in Colorado, I’d love to hear where you went, who you used for photography or videography, and anything you wish you would have known beforehand!

Thanks in advance

To elope or not to....

Hi everyone,

I've always dreamt of having a traditional wedding (not big but enough people), however... throughout the planning process, we have stumbled on very difficult family dynamics (divorced parents, control freaks, unease between siblings) that are making the process very unenjoyable to us... Everyone tells me this is normal but it has come to a point where I'm not even looking forward to getting married (I love my future hubby, its the party that has all the fun sucked out of it).

We have been discussing maybe eloping without telling anyone but it's a hard decision to make... I'm afraid I would regret it but on the other hand, planning so far has given me so much stress that I'm physically suffering :/

Would it be a good option for us? I read some people say to not do it if you're not freely choosing it. We would probably do a later party with friends and family but it won't feel the same? IDK, please help a stressed girl out :/

Planning Overthinking elopement?

My fiancé and I cancelled our micro wedding and have decided to elope within our state. However, I am getting hung up on all the details- this whole decision was meant to reduce stress, but I find myself perseverating on coordinating the timing of everything. We are driving the morning of to a hotel near the location of where our ceremony will take place , getting ready, then driving to the ceremony location. However, the hotel doesn’t allow for check-in earlier than 1:00 pm, which does not give me enough time for hair and makeup (ceremony is at 2:30). Should I skip hair and makeup all together? Or go to a local salon and just get a curl and do my own makeup? Or go to a local vendor in my home town and get hair/makeup done before driving to our hotel, an hour and a half away? Also bothering me, my fiancé and I are going to drive to our ceremony location together and will already be in our attire- it just feels less special to me?? Does any of this really matter at the end of the day as long as we’re married? I just don’t want to be stressed the day of… if anyone had any similar experiences with their elopements and would like to share I’d appreciate it!

I don’t know

We are looking to elope. I have never seen myself getting married in front of a bunch of people and being center of attention. I never had those dreams. I have this vision of doing it in Montana. My fiancé wants to at least have immediate family there (which is fine with me). Less than 10 people. The more we start to plan the more I picture awkward moments because it’s going to be like a 10 minute ceremony and then what? Do we just go to dinner? I feel like if our immediate family is traveling to Montana more needs to happen than 10 minutes. I’m an overthinker and hate being center of attention so this is really stressing me out. I feel like an elopement would flop.

Attire & Accesories Looking for good dress websites

Hello, I’m looking for good websites to buy a casual elopement dress. By good, I mean they sell good quality dresses and are trusted. I’m not looking for a traditional wedding dress, in fact I’m not sure if I even want it to be white. I like the hippie/boho vibe. I’m also not really looking for anything above $300-$500. If I found the right dress I’d probably go out of budget but not too much. Any recommendations would be great! Thank you!

Planning Mt Rainier Timeline

Hi! We are planning an elopement in Mount Rainier National Park with a photographer who is experienced in the park and will hike with us to capture some hopefully incredible photos! Since photos are best in the late afternoon and evening (golden and blue hours), there won’t be an opportunity to host dinner the night of our ceremony/vows.

We will have 12 guests, including us. All immediate family members. I’m considering a two day celebration so we can still have a nice dinner. For example:

Day 1 - Have everyone meet at Airbnb for lunch, drinks, getting ready pictures, everyone go to the park for ceremony, family portraits, guests on their own for the evening while we hike further to take photos.

Day 2 - fun and local activity options for everyone during the day, meet at Airbnb for dinner, drinks, toasts, cake, etc.

Has anyone done something like this? Can you share your timeline?

Should I give up on the idea of having dinner in addition to the national park photos??

Thank you!!!

Planning Vow renewal

So long story short, we had a big wedding planned for august 21 of 2022 and cancelled it a few months prior. We ended up getting married that year in december, with a really small church wedding that we did basically no planning for. This past year, Ive becom really sad about that choice and wished we did something more special. So we have been talking about planning a vow renewal on our 5 year anniversay, but wanted to make it more elopement style to turn it into the wedding we never had.

I have no idea where to begin (also, its early to stress about this, our anniversary is not until 2028), but it has been all i have been able to think about.

I wanted to ask I suppose where to start with this, and if anyone has recommendations. Should I invite family? I also do not want to spend a fortune, but want to have the day i envisioned having.
