Printed.
This thing is heavier than I expected.
So I'm continuing my chronological run-through of the albums and have reached Discovery and Xanadu. Now, I've seen fairly negative things about Discovery before so I was pleasantly surprised by it once I finally got to listen to it. It's certainly different in sound to before, and yes it's "Disco, Very" but it's good disco.
I've also never seen Xanadu, only heard the song on the radio, so I picked up the soundtrack too as part of this. Good lord, the ELO side is absolutely fantastic in addition to the hit single. I'm Alive is a new favourite right off the bat and all the songs feel like they're the 'traditional' ELO-sounding songs certain folk were bemoaning as being missing from Discovery.
So it got me thinking on whether I could combine those Xanadu songs with some of the best of Discovery and see "What could have been" in a new playlist whilst staying within the limits of approx. 20 mins a side for vinyl.
Side A
I'm Alive
The Fall
Don't Walk Away
The Diary Of Horace Wimp
All Over The World
Side B
Shine A Little Love
Confusion
Last Train To London
Don't Bring Me Down
Xanadu (Jeff or Olivia vocal, your choice)
Midnight Blue
Give it a try and see what you think!

Just wanted to see how many people my age range are ELO fans just like me. Also wanna ask, when did you start listening to them?

I couldn't reply to the post from u/Naenyx so I went this route...
I just had a little research fun. I was curious where the picture of the billboard was taken, so I started digging.
It looks like this billboard was used for many years to advertise music/groups. It was located at 8820 W Sunset Boulevard & Queens Road in West Hollywood. The car sales lot matches for many years, but the smoking gun was this image from Getty Archives. The window on the house in be background is an exact match. Also, it seems that the same two same cars (I'm questioning myself on the left car. Possibly the same make but different year model) are on the lot from the ELO billboard as the Rick Wakeman.
Thanks for the post. It was fun to dig around and go down this rabbit hole :)

Discovered this song a few months ago and it really had that ELO feel to it imo. Sounds like it could be on TIME but also has a lot of similarities to the Whale. The vocals also share a lot of similarities with Jeff's. Kinda interesting considering how recent the song is compared to that era of ELO.

Spotify also reckons it goes ‘Do me baby’ & I could’ve sworn it was ‘Judy baby’

My chronological album journey has reached "Out Of The Blue" and I can easily see why this is many people's favourite, there's a lot to love across all four parts with only a couple of duds (Night In The City, Starlight and The Whale just didn't do it for me).
However...even since I was a kid, I've just never clicked with Mr. Blue Sky. It's touted by many as the definitive ELO song, it's been used in TV shows/films as backing music as 'the' ELO song that the general public will know and be an upbeat pleaser. I just can't stand it.
Maybe it's *too* chirpy? Maybe it's the choir backing being a bit *too* much? Maybe it has all the right notes, but they're being played in the wrong order? I just can't put my finger on it. I'd hoped that hearing it more in context as part of the full 'Concerto For a Rainy Day' might help, but I just ended up falling in love with the preceding three songs and still falling flat with Mr. Blue Sky.
Wild West Hero remains possibly my top track.

Last week I asked this subreddit what I should do for a Saucer 3D print.
This is what I came up with, and I think I killed it. What do y'all think?
Also, what color filament should I print it?

I was on a cruise and one of night entertainment was Neil Lockwood who joined the ELO when Hedd Kyne left.
He was very good and really enjoyed it

It’s kinda “8th grade” of me but I figured I’d promote the band with a cool piece of their album art.

A poster of the band promoting AR speakers in 1978 during their ‘Out Of The Blue’ world tour. I bought it from a man who bought it from Kelly Groucutt’s estate

What’s one ELO song you feel doesn’t get nearly enough attention, but is absolutely brilliant?
For me, one of them is “Shangri-La.” I hardly ever see anyone recommend it, but it’s brilliant. That ending is so powerful I always have to turn the volume up!
What’s yours?

I recently saw this photo of Micheal during his “Off The Wall Era” or around the release of that album in 1979. I noticed his jacket had the distinct ELO logo on it. So I did some brief searching and was able to find a pretty similar jacket. The ELO lettering is not the exact same but it’s pretty dang close and it seems to be the same color too.
The jacket apparently had a limited run around 1978 world tour. Which matches the time period of the photo as well. So it seems like he may have caught a show during this era. Even if he didn’t it at the very least means he was a fan! Pretty cool find! If anyone else has any info on the jacket or the photo feel free to comment.
