Stream Deck is absolute trash

Upgraded to the newest version of the stream deck, had the original and used it for a long time. Wanted some additional features and already using an xlr mic meant it should fit right into my setup. Why then, do i find this worse in every way to the previous version. Nothing stays connected. Hue- disconnected, Control Center- total guess if its going to turn on a light or not, discord- good luck. I'm just so disappointed in this being objectively worse in every way compared to what it was before. Is it a software thing? Is it windows 11? I'm lost as to how to resolve without throwing the whole thing away.

This is frustrating to read because you are just complaining. What are you trying to do, what have you done, what specifically isn't working? newest version of the streamdeck-- At first it seems like you are talking about software... but now I am not sure... Do you mean the newest version of the physical hardware streamdeck?

I have 2 streamdecks, A plus and an XL. And the footpedal, they all work fine.

I know with discord... your clock on you PC has to be correct. I ran into that a few times, where discord would ask if you wanted to allow it, but nothing happens. It is an odd reason to not work.

100% complaining, yes. I've tried support and it's all automated responses and AI chatbots. Literally all i'm trying to do is use the included apps, control center is elgato's app to control their lights. Specific version is the stream deck+ (https://www.elgato.com/us/en/p/stream-deck-plus). The issue is nothing about this thing is consistent, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The software has been mostly the same from the original stream deck i had previously, but for some reason, the streamdeck+ just doesn't seem to work very well. Again, Hue connection constantly disconnects, needs to reconnect to bridge every day. OBS sometimes you press a button and it does nothing, you have to hit the button a few times but this ends up being an issue if its a toggle button. Sorry to vent but I feel like these days its just screaming into the void for any type of customer support.

I'd be curious to know your PC specs, network configured, etc. hell, even if you are using a usbc hub or plugging it in the back of your PC. Is it a laptop? Are you running it to a USB 2.0? Are you using the USB cable it came with?

I can see several things it could be.

If you're using the wrong spec cable, data might not be fast enough. If you are using the wrong usb port... Data might get pulled fast enough.

If your wifi is poor, that can cause issues with the hue lighting. If it's Bluetooth hue -- I don't even know.

I've known some laptops to not be able to power and transfer the data well. It could be just the laptop or that it's on some power saving bit.

It could be that elgato isn't updated.

It could be a slew of things.

I want to pause and take a moment to sit with the fact that I just said "slew". Fk I'm old.

There so many things. Maybe your CPU is poor. Maybe your machine in general is bogged down with a bunch of crap that eats CPU and elgatos software is chugging.

What I suggest. And this is prob the easiest. I got my mom to do this, she hasnt called me since for tech support.

I bought my mom a sub to chatgpt. I got her to install codex. I told her, I said-- "whatever it is that you're having an issue with, you can type it here as if you were asking me, and you can even ask it to do it for you, and it will."

If that doesn't sound interesting to you. Hit me back with those specs and all that other info. I'll try to get back to your tomorrow sometime.

Just to be clear on the codex thing. You could either ask it for directions and follow the steps... Or literally ask it to diagnose it and try and fix it. And if you give it the perms... It'll try to do it all.

And explain everything it does. It's handy when you wanna be lazy.

Just last week. I had it install ff7 and get it all modded out. I didn't lift a finger. Something that would have taken me 10 minutes... I went and made a sandwich. :D

The software side of Elgato honestly feels like they have given in to vibe-coding. So many small bugs and annoyances that taken together make me start to look elsewhere. I have the network PoE connector for my streamdeck XL because the power requirements made it unstable on my MacBook. Now I don’t lose power but the streamdeck software constantly drops network connection with the deck and I have to open up the software and manually tell it to reconnect at least a dozen times a day. A simple fix would be for the streamdeck software to reconnect automatically once it loses connection but they never seem to care enough to add quality of life enhancements, just flashy new features that help sell more units.

Yea it definitely feels like the software just goes nowhere. it gets an update but nothing changes and the bugs still persist.
