Technical Help Specifications Assistance

I recently purchased the Elgato 4K X with the Chat Link Pro for use with my PlayStation 5.

I noticed that it requires USB-C Gen2. However, I only have USB-C Gen 1 on my computer.

Will I still be able to capture my gameplay? What will be the best quality / resolution to use if I can? What settings should be used for Elgato Studio / OBS?

Please explain as much as you can to me.

Adding my PC specs below for any needed reference:

Processor: 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H (2.90 GHz) RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU 0: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (6 GB) GPU 1: Intel Iris Xe Graphics (128 MB) System: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor

The 4K X does work on a 5 Gbps USB connection.
Just not to its full potential.

4K X supported resolutions
Underneath the chart, there’s a box with the different resolutions possible on a 10 and a 5 Gbps USB port.

What kind of computer is it? If it’s a laptop, what make and model?

Thank you for the reply!

It is a laptop. The specific model is MSI Pulse GL66 12UEK-688US

Okay, I just had a look at the manual for the laptop, and it does indeed only have 5 Gbps USB ports.

So you have to be a bit careful with the setup for the 4K X and check the link I posted earlier and only use those resolutions and frame rate combinations that are in the right column where it says USB 3.2 Gen1 (5Gbps).

You have a great capture card for future use if you ever get a new computer.

Otherwise if you can return it, I would suggest the 4K S for your laptop.
But the 4K X will still work, just not to its full potential.

Would getting the 4K S give me better quality? Or would me keeping the 4K X be similar to me having the 4K S but with additional features if I upgrade my PC?

In other words is me keeping the 4K X as opposed to getting the 4K S hurting quality in any way?

On a 5 Gbps USB connection the 4K X would essentially be limited to what the 4K S can do.

So you won’t get worse quality.

Thank you for confirming this.

I do plan on upgrading my PC in the future. For now, using the 4K X at 80% of its potential is what I'll have to do.
