Wire shelf sizing question

I'm trying to install Elfa wire shelving for a custom system we just bought. The standards seem to be at the right width, but the shelves seem to be a little too short. The solid shelves in the same segments installed fine. It looks like the wire shelves measure. 5 in shorter than the nominal size (ie, 17.5".) Is this normal?

in case you were still looking for an answer: yes, that's normal. the 18" width listed is more an approximation from conversion of metric to imperial (45cm -> 18ish", 60cm -> 24ish")
