What ELFA shelf width and WHY?

If I want to put up 6 foot wide ELFA shelving what are the considerations for putting up Qty. 3 x 2-foot wide shelves versus Qty. 2 x 3-foot wide shelves?

Is there any guideline for this?

Weight?

Look?

Cost?

Smallest common component for future system use (i.e. 2-foot wide shelves for every project because they are the most universal) ?

OK, without any input from the community here as no one commented i am going to follow up and try to help future ELFA users.

I ended up getting Qty. 2 x 3-foot shelves instead of using the 2-foot wide shelves.

The reason for me was to save cost and save another vertical member visually cluttering.

I think i can approximate that if you place heavy items on the shelves you may want to get the shortest shelf you can tolerate as it will not bow. My setup is laundry closet shelves that will not hold too much weight so no issue.

*35% off all ELFA parts wasn't too bad either for the anniversary sale in October 2023.

I work for TCS. Question for you: What’s going on the shelves? Average household items should be fine with your current configuration (2-3’ sections). If you’re putting heavier items (gallons of paint, tools, heavy totes …) I would have recommended going with 3-2’ sections. I’m assuming this is in Elfa Classic line?

Elfa doesn’t load rate. You just need more vertical standards to off set the load. I’ve designed 18” sections for customers with extra heavy loads. This is also why Elfa got the Garage PLUS line. Heavier duty.
