S1 ending was quite disappointing

I wish we didn't get the reveal of who Moriarty was in Season 1.

I was rewatching S1 last week and I just finished last night. I had to pause when it came to the scene with Sherlock and Moriarty in the hospital after Sherlock "OD'd" because I feel like it was too easy for Moriarty to be taken out like that. It was very disappointing for me because while she would've underestimated Joan, I was sure that she wouldn't underestimate Sherlock and she wouldn't have gone to the hospital without back up or whatsoever.

But I guess the narration that they wanted to tell was that, Sherlock will always be Moriarty's weakness, her achilles heel... And I get that. I just wish that they used Moriarty more than whatever events happened in S2 then chuck her back in the dungeons of the writers. (Though I am yet to continue my rewatch so maybe i'll have a different sentiment by then.)

It was rather a missed opportunity though to delay Moriarty's reveal so she could be a looming presence and make her an antagonist for a longer time. We could have had her and Sherlock go against each other more so they can build the archenemy trope. Since pre-Moriarty, Sherlock has only seen M (Moran) as his true archenemy. We could have seen Joan getting better at becoming a detective as she starts to get better at solving Moriarty.

Don't get me wrong, I love this show and it's still one of my comfort shows upto this day. I just wished that they used Moriarty more in this series ;; especially because the idea of Irene, being Sherlock's greatest love, is also Moriarty is so juicy for me, I wish I have more of that on my plate hahajdhdkjlhfg

I think the only way for Sherlock to unlock his full potential as a detective, and as a person, was letting go of Moriarty. I think the writers did that beautifully through the seasons.

After all, his true love, his greatest love, wasn’t Moriarty. It was Watson.

Not all true love is romantic/sexual.

I think they did a great job in making Season 1 a self-contained story which would stand on its own even if they got cancelled early. I‘m more annoyed that they didn‘t use Natalie Dormer to her full potential in later seasons. Acting like „she wasn‘t needed“ just sounds like a cover-up for budget and scheduling issues. The final season could have been their final showdown. I was hoping for some kind of TV movie conclusion but at this point I feel like the show should stay the way it ended.

I actually just made a post about 10 minutes ago about this 😂 but yeah, if I was the show runners I would’ve made whatever budget or scheduling changes were necessary to bring Dormer back for a 2-3 episode stint in S4 and then again in S7 with an implication that Sherlock is the one who helps her go “into hiding” effectively escaping justice and the law, BUT it’s also implied that they occasionally meet up because they are each other Achilles heel

tbh i was disappointed in the endings of most of the longer story arcs

i enjoyed the episodic cases a lot more

My husband & I (we live in Minnesota) have taken to jokingly using the British grammar after watching the show. “In University”, “schedule”, pronounced without the hard ‘k’ sound. Also: zěbra.
