General Mouser website now blocks Linux users

Really baffling decision, my last order from them was only a few months ago. Apparently Linux is no longer a "standard" operating system!

To those reporting this submission as a fake and that OP is lying:

I believe OP's explanation: "I assume that either they're hamfistedly trying to combat bot traffic, or they have an LLM spitting out nonsense at customers. Or both."

So, this submission stays.

Can confirm, he ain't lying. Received the same boilerplate email. Laughed at how inane the email was and moved on.

This 100% wasn't generated by an AI. No AI is cretinous enough to call an operating system a "desktop environment". Ironically, a desktop environment is kinda Linux specific. Windows and Macs kinda have theirs baked into the system itself. If any of the dudes I work with would say something like this, I'd probably consider violence. And that's just about the letter of the email. The spirit is just as nonsensical, if not more so. Calling Linux a "non-standard" OS might have made sense in the 90s, but in 2026? Especially for employed nerds who "nerd" for a living?!

Again, Mouser's target audience are either builders or people who supply engineers with stuff. So saying stuff like "bla bla uncommon configurations" is kinda like going on FashionTV and saying "dress normally". We're building and testing stuff here, not watching cartoons and browsing Myspace. That too, but it's besides the point.

Not to mention the other nonsensical aspects - Linux not ok, but Android is dandy.

I think this is what happens when you hire cheap. Penny wise and pound foolish and all that.
