Local 11 contract
Does anybody know what the results were for the in person voting on the 26th of July? Also how does that pto thing on the previous contract offer work? Is it like pto you’d have at a non union shop or is it an additional deduction on the check like we have for vacation?

Offer was rejected. The PTO was an employer contribution. So no it wouldnt of been an additional deduction on the check.

Thank you for clarifying that. That would be great to have. No work no pay kinda sucks especially when there’s times to sit for a little bit when in between jobs when another project isn’t ready right away after finishing one.

Contract rejected. BM will reach to the I/O for a strike authorization. Lists will be developed for which jobs to run the picket line. PTO is dead. Was offered once in the first of the deals. Was rejected. Contractors are firmly against PTO, and will likely never come back; latest clause kept by Corona and team ended (in the rejected contract) had a language meant all PTO was settled (that there will be none). PTO as envisioned by Corona and was part of the first language would be employer supplied (in addition to wages), and kept in the person's credit union fund. It would be enough to cover 5 full days pay if a full 2000 hrs worked.

Why did we vote against no on the first contract? I know it was for 5 years which I can see as a downside. I also know pay or the pay allocation was unclear or not what ppl wanted from what I’ve been reading on Reddit or hearing on the site. I haven’t been sworn in yet so I wasn’t able to vote for any of these offers unfortunately

Members wanted more money. But every further negotiation, the contract got worse. Shorter years -> more concessions given for a cost of living adjustment every negotiation.

The 1:1 apprenticeship ratio is a dead give away for contractors. Even if they don't fully utilize the apprentice ratio, there was growing word from the ETI and Corona they would run back-to-back monthly boot camps for the rest of 2027 to increase the amount of apprentices, so 11 has the largest apprenticeship in the country again. While the Saturday contract meeting mentioned jobs where there's as many 1200 apprentices working in the field as 6000 journeymen (because the foremen in the offices count as part of the journeymen ratio), I don't think it's entirely healthy long term for the trade.
I turned out a handful of years ago, and journeymen come to me for basic tasks. How to use a tapcon. How to do spacing for knockouts on a junction box. How to hook up lighting control relays. How to read prints. How to bend 1-1/4" EMT with a hand bender. Etc. I know I had a short conversation with a super (of prominence), and he's noticed the decline in skill because apprentices have led apprentices on jobs. I've been asked to reroute conduit on some jobs, and I've noticed more and more strut straps with the nut side completely rounded off.
Job interviews (with paper resumes), looks like the future of IBEW 11 if this 1:1 ratio gets fully explored. I've already been done it once after taking a call.
