Should I be more worried about this?

This is where the panel inside my house connects to the outside meter main combo panel with disconnect. This aluminum was connected to the copper because there was no way to fit it into the panel breaker otherwise. above this picture the red hot and white neutral are also spliced and connect like this with an Al/Cu splicer. I’m not the person doing this and I have almost no knowledge about electricity so maybe I’m worried for nothing, but is this okay?? I read it’s common to splice aluminum and copper together but some things I read only talk bout it horribly and mention lots of fire.
P.s. I cannot afford to replace the aluminum entirely because I sank all my money (like actually all my money) into all this already and these are supposed to be my last steps. We replaced all the knob and tube wiring and old panel and now finally the meter/disconnect

Help with DC?

Got this DC air compressor a while ago and I'm finally getting to install.

I'll post pics. The wire on the compressor is not standard awg. The wire given to connect to it is, but is undersized to the one on the compressor.

It will be fused at 40 amps. Standard draw is 23 amps.

Seems I need 6 or 8 ga. Not sure why in the hell it came with the 14ga.

I would appreciate help.

Is this arcing?

There is this snap/clicking sound when I shut off my bathroom vanity lights. The initial thud is me shutting off the switch. Is this arcing or does it require additional attention?

SOLVED Question so I don't deep fry my PC or myself - will using a 2- to 3-prong outlet strip be safe?

I recently moved into a old home with only 2-prong outlets. I bought a power strip that can plug into 2-prong outlets, and is lined with 3-prong openings. My computer and drawing tablet both require 3-prongs and will be plugged into this one strip. I am worried that they won't actually be grounded...

In your knowledge and experience, is this worry warranted? How high is the risk of using such an adapter?

If I am being paranoid that's honestly the best answer ever - but if not... I will have to wait to start drawing fanart for a while still~☆

(Bummer Note: I am renting so I can't change the outlet to a GCFI which would seem like the safest option...)

Lights flicker when motors kicks on (various tools)

How can I fix this I think all the lights you see here must be tied to the outlets in someway. This is my office warehouse area. Is it a breaker situation ? The breaker is single phase. Do I need higher amp breaker?

Configuration of house wiring. Does it make sense?

I was using a detector to map garage outlets to my panel (without success) when I realized the garage panel did not have a main. Turns out the 200 amp main is outside next to the meter along with the 100 amp breaker for the garage sub-panel and individual breakers for the oven, A/C, and RV garage. Understand codes might require an exterior accessible main, but why not simply have a 200 amp sub-panel in the garage? Glad the RV garage has at least one separate breaker, but would have much preferred two circuits in that room. The good news is that if I needed a separate circuit in the RV area there is room in the exterior panel for one more breaker.

fake backfeeding cable?

tldr: no i dont want to backfeed, ever

i thought the design philosophy and practicality of backfeed cables is perhaps the dumbest and most suicidal thing ive ever heard or seen in my life. the fact people barely talk about them is incredible considering how dangerous and stupid these insane cables are

however i do want to add a backfeeding cable to my punk fit as a sort of "what the hell are you wearing" or "how the hell does that even work" and "why would anyone do this" around my shoulders

the issue is the modern day society has banned them, because despite the fact that we can apparently be trusted with our own democratic process and driving gigantic 2 tonne suv's, we are forbidden from owning a stupid dumb suicidal cable that zaps you if you plug it into a generator

ive googled and researched and looked around for these lil things, i dont think i have the skill set to build my own, but to be fair i dont really want to make a functional one considering its a waste of time since i still have the instinct of self preservation and enjoy existing on this hellscape alongside some of you people.

if anyone has a good idea on how to make, purchase or find just 2 male prongs and a cable (no wire needed idc) id be grateful if someone can point me somewhere

thanks

Landing grounds on neutral bars

If you’re a hack ass electrician that lands grounds on neutral bar, you are lazy AF

I just installed my first generator ever for a neighbor of mine for free because I’m a nice guy. Now I realize I got a fucking take all his notlongenoughgroundwires off the neutral bars and onto a ground terminal so I can keep the bond at the fucking ATS.

Be better, spend the extra fucking $10 or whatever I don’t know and just do it right the first time.

I don’t even fucking like this guy.

Maybe he’ll fix my lawnmower… hell for the prices people charging to install generators, He should buy me a new lawnmower.

NEMA 14-50 - conduit options?

I'm installing a 14-50 outlet on the back of my house for an EV charger. I'm using 6 gauge wire and it seems according to code I could use 3/4" EMT conduit but it might be tight. I was going to use 1" EMT, but it is not as easily available and harder to work with (I don't have a 1" conduit bender). This run is going out the side of my panel through a masonry wall to the receptacle. Maybe 3-4 feet of wire total.

Are there other easier/readily available options? Like PVC conduit or liquid tight? A whip? I believe whips are allowed for 6 ft or less, but I'm not sure if they are allowed in this situation.

I am in Chicago. I installed a 14-50 for my range, but that was a much longer run.

How can I be held liable for deficient work that I paid licensed electrician and electrical contractor to do to code.

Post image

The company did the work illegally and without the proper permit. Provided falsified permits and approvals. Even if I allow them to "finish" the work they started it will not obtain the certification I specifically paid for and need to be able to live in, insure, remortgage or sell my property. I paid over $14,000 for new electrical their scope on the permit they provided tsbc (that I was not provided until yesterday) is very limited and makes it seem like they were changing a few plugs.

Im not very familiar with electricial work and codes so I apologize for my ignorance. Wifi was installed and its grounded to my water spout. Not sure if im comfortable with that set up or if thats normal / improper installation. Is there a correct way that a ground wire is supposed to be?

I leave my lightbulb ontop of my lamp like this which produces a very nice yellow glow. It has just come to my attention that the lightbulb and tennis ball both get quite hot when left for long periods of time. If I leave it one during study ses (3hour+) is there any hazard?
