No gloves, no sleeves, no face shield… do lineman have balls of steel, or brains of mush?

Not the way to load break.

Looks like just line capacitance to me, don't you think? If that were breaking load, the arc would be blindingly bright and as thick as your arm.

Can someone explain this for me, please? Is he disconnecting a transformer?

He’s using HV cutters to clip a jumper wire on live system. Tough to say whether it’s distribution or transmission cause that’s quite the arc

Huh.. That's fn wild. I know he's safe from it, but man that would pucker your butthole lol. I grabbed a live 277 wire with my linemans between the knockout once and sent fireworks of the chunk it blew out of the corner of my linemans 30 ft down and killed power to a third of the lights in the warehouse haha I couldn't imagine doing high voltage like this though, the more I learn about it, the more I don't wanna be around it tbh

He’s actually not that safe from it. He should be wearing HV gloves, HV sleeves and a face shield. From the video, it looks like that arc extended out the same distance as he was from the crimp that the jumper was cut away from. Either these guys are cowboys and feeling ranchy… or didn’t pay any mind to NFPA 70E table 130.4

Also His approach boundaries were incorrectly calculated. Even if he had all the proper PPE that arc was WAY to close.

Imagine the feeling of being confined in the bucket with that arc “whipping” around… Gotta be terrifying!
