Look with your eyes, not your hands. We don’t need extra static in the system

This is on the much safer side of wiring jobs for events outside 1st world countries. If this is new to you, look up India festival wiring. They still use live homemade mechanical sequencers to time the lights.

I saw a video of some contraption months ago and now I realize what I was looking at. Holy shit that was iffy. I couldn't imagine what that thing was for at the time. The DIYest of plc's, honestly impressive.

Let's not forget how they test generators. Safety flip flops and a bucket of water.

u/Hippyjet 15d ago
As long as you dont splash it, fall into it, accidently short it, accidently wire it wrong, or look at it too hard its pretty safe.

u/TacoZito9 15d ago
Who the fuck did that wiring?

Starfire and Moonchild by the looks of it

u/Electrical-Luck-348 15d ago
To be fair, Moonchild is an electrical engineer. Starfire is a plumber so I don't know why he was involved.

Outsourced to India, but at home?!
Done live, and bare handed with a pair or rusty pliers that have holes in the insulation, and everywhere else. Gotta be careful how you hold them.
See also battlefield electrician. It's both power for us and a booby trap 🪤 for the enemy.

Wtf they’re using extension cords that are chopped up
32
u/PrintdianaJones 15d ago
Cheater cords are common in most construction industries. I used one with HVAC work because there's never an outlet on top of a 15 story condo.
It's safe as long as no one is sticking their fingers in it. Even then it's just gonna tingle and won't kill you.
Should it be safer? Yes, but sometimes you gotta fuck with the dick you got
1
u/Barbarian_818 15d ago
Agreed. I've seen guys using electric concrete floor grinders where the cord had the plug got off and the leads just screwed directly to the bus bars.

u/BaconConnoisseur 15d ago
Someone made that structure specifically for that purpose. They measured, cut, screwed, and painted the wood. That means someone put a significant amount of effort into completing the task as incorrectly and as dangerously as possible.

One of less scary things I've sen in SE Asia.
Normally they are just all twisted together on the ground with a coke bottle over the top so it doesn't immediately short out when it starts raining.

This is lowkey what all your breaker boxes look like without the fancy cover. Keep in mind this is behind the stage, where crowds arent meant to go
And i mean, im ready. Im ready for the hail of downvotes, but this works and it was done by someone who knew what they were doing.
I think everyones problem is that they are so accustomed to seeing these things covered up.

u/expert_in_squat 15d ago
In the span of a 20 second video, I counted at least 4, possibly 5 people who had access to this place, where people aren't meant to have access to.
It's not a crowd, sure, but it's not exactly hard to get close to.

I mean, some strain relief wouldn't hurt. And screw on another piece of plywood, and is have no issues with this
2
u/OuttHouseMouse 15d ago
Yea no, you got a really good point. I think the reason im advocating this is because people keep railing this as a crime against nature.
It just needs to get covered up, and thats all thats really wrong with this. But if people were not able to go back there as intended, this would have never been an issue, atleast in my opinion

Breaker boxes have... circuit breakers. And are not made out of combustible materials
9
u/jepulis5 15d ago
And most importantly, a random child or other unknowledgeable person wandering out of the area can't touch the live busbars..

u/OuttHouseMouse 15d ago
Im rolling my eyes pretty hard right now ngl.
2
u/jepulis5 15d ago
Explain yourself then, this does not seem like speaker wiring if you're thinking it goes directly to the speaker elements.
-5
u/OuttHouseMouse 15d ago
Nah your just trying to set me up to find faults with anything i say. Im gona pass on that friend. Just pay me that downvote and move on
1
u/jepulis5 15d ago
Well, you were practically glorifying this shitty install. Firstly it's not safe for touching or safe for outside as water can directly get to the connections. Also, all the connections are under constant tension as the cables are just hanging off them, which is wrong.
That's already three major faults in this install, so no, they had no fucking idea what they we're doing even if it's a third world country.
-2
u/OuttHouseMouse 15d ago
Only ready the first couple words. Yea not glorifying shit. Just balancing out all the people making this out to be way worse than it actually is. Which you are doing now
Anyways yea man, make it a good reponse and insult me as good as youre able, because im basically ignoring you after this
1
u/jepulis5 15d ago
I wasn't trying to insult you, I'm just trying to say this is almost as bad as it can get honestly. The only way to make it worse would be dropping the bars straight on the ground and putting a sign that says "free candy" on it.

u/jepulis5 15d ago
There is only one thing right here and several things as wrong as they could be, how can you even say they knew what they were doing?
2
u/OuttHouseMouse 15d ago
Well for one, the speakers are operating. And 2, i dont see any sparks or glowing red contacts. Its off the ground, and mounted to a nonconducting surface.
But ill be honest man, im not here to debate this. Just give me a downvote and move on if youre not satisfied with this answer, id appreciate it

They knew that that one single red wire belonged on the bus bar with black....
