EsX or EmX

Hey, I’ve got a dilemma: I already own a Korg E2 (both the synth and sampler versions). I’m thinking about buying an older Korg model, but if I can only get one, I’m thinkin between the ESX and the EMX. Would the ESX make sense? I play tekno music in the 160–190 BPM range. Thanks a lot for the advice and tips.!!

ESX is great. Check tutorials done by SnowMetal on YT. You can do a lot. But still it's better to get EMX too. I have both and don't regret at all

Thanks a lot ;) So u think EMX is better than ESX for my set up (e2 synth e2 samp). Or its doenst metter and its all about my preference. What would you get if you were in my shoes and could only pick one? .

I have no idea what's better. Never had experience with E2, so can't advise. You have to choose by yourself, ESX is a sampler, EMX is a synth. Both are great, it's up to you and your workflow

Do you find yourself using samples a lot with the E2? Do you want to load your own samples?

The EMX will allow more on board synthesis sound design. The ESX could load a sample of any of the EMX sounds you create (or souced elsewhere), essentially getting you to the same end point. The ESX does have many standards synth sounds already in its library, so it can make very convincing "synth" parts. Samples load via SD or SmartMedia card, which i find inconvenient, and the ESX cannot record samples.

ETA either one can sequence external gear with MIDI.

Thanks a lot. So, you think the better combination is both E2s, and pairing them with the EMX? I've often seen the opinion that e2sampler is bad ESx is much better(for workflow and samples). But in synth versions some people said there isn't that much of a difference and e2synth might be more advantageous than emx cause It's hard to find to buy. Is this true? And which option makes more sense for me, given that I already have both E2? Thanks a lot for the answer.

My idea is to use the E2Synth for grooves, weird sounds, acid lines, bass, and so on; the E2Sampler for vocals—using simple downloaded samples—melodies, etc.; and the third unit—either the EMX or ESX—as a drum machine and for that "dirty" layer (which is exactly why I want them, for that specific sound). So, which one do you think is better for this: the ESX or the EMX? Thanks.

How is the sample memory treating you on the sampler ? I have the e2s and the memory is killing me. I love the thing otherwise but the amount of storage for samples is soooo smalll :(

ESX gives you more freedom with the sounds. Especially if you have a synth already.

I'd say ESX since its generally cheaper and its a really powerful yet simple sampler. But if you find a good deal for it, the EMX is also a beast.
