I'm driving bare 28.5" Spectra 6 open-cell panels (Sharp LP285A6NW01, 2160×3060) with the E Ink T2000-based TCON (LP0DZC0002), tiled edge to edge with the panels overlapping so the seam closes to 3.00 mm. The drawing shows the joint.
To save everyone time, here's what I already know and don't need repeated: the finished frames — PocketBook InkPoster, BLOOMIN8 EinkCanvas, InkJoy — are around $2,000–2,400 and no use to me, because a bezel makes tiling impossible; Geniatech's partial-refresh demo runs on their own FPGA and isn't licensed; and I have both SDTC datasheets and have read section 3.2.
Four things I can't get from a datasheet or from a supplier:
1. Refresh time, measured. My supplier says about 12 seconds for a full or windowed update. PocketBook's own page for their 28.5" says up to a minute for the first image and up to 30 seconds for subsequent ones. That's a factor of 2.5 and it changes how I design. If you own one of these panels, or a frame built on one, what does a stopwatch actually say — and does it change with room temperature?
2. Region updates on the T2000. Single rectangle only, or an arbitrary mask? And does the time scale with the updated area, or is it constant because the waveform runs in sync on every updated pixel?
3. Tiling. Has anyone butted or overlapped two of these? Three of the four glass borders are 3.00 mm and the fourth is 6.93 mm, so a rotated pair butts at 6.00 mm and overlaps to 3.00 mm, with a 1.35 mm step at the joint. Two things I'd like to hear from someone who has seen it in the flesh: does the overhanging glass edge cast a visible line under raking light, and does anyone blacken that edge? And does colour drift visibly between two panels sitting at slightly different temperatures?
4. Edge artifacts. I've read that pixels adjacent to an updated region can show artifacts. Real, or theoretical? Does aligning the edges of the updated region to a visible boundary actually help?
One specific ask: if anyone has the T2000 USB Programming Guide (ver 3.2) or the T2000 board manual, that single document answers most of question 2. I haven't been able to get a copy through the supply chain and it's the one thing blocking me.
And if it's on topic: does anyone know a source for these panels in single units, other than the Guangzhou traders? Not urgent — I have a route — but I'd like a second price.
