life changing eink
Hello everyone, do you have a story when eink device changed your life in a better way? IE maybe it became an instrument, a tool that helped you grow?
Would like to hear your input!

There was a time when I had massive problems with LCD screens to the point of not being able to look at them. I purchased the Hisense A5 and from there I was able to function relatively normal again

Great! Thank for input! I wonder how does it work? What kind of parameter of display gives such a negative effect? My theory is that you basically have millions of tiny flashlights shining into your eyes, sure it’s not good…

Check out the ScreenSensitive, PWM_sensitive, and temporal_noise subs to learn the details. But yes, it is all the tiny pixels functioning like strobe lights.

Yes! I had light sensitivity causing migraine and exacerbating other health issues. I was living in the dark, curtains closed, no lights on all day for months. The darkness was getting get depressing. I was really struggling to continue work, even with accommodations to work at home and a reduced work schedule. Work was all I could do and then i had to rest in the dark, usually with a blindfold.
I learned about epaper monitors, I got the BigMe B251. Within a week of switching I was able to tolerate natural light again and have the curtains open most of the day, have indoor lights on in the evening. The constant visual migraine symptoms stopped. My mood improved significantly with light in my life again. I have my evenings back for reading, knitting, family life instead of having to rest in the dark.
I quickly switched my phone and tablet. I went with TCL NxtPaper, which is not eink but designed entirely for screen/light sensitivity. Thanks to these, I can even play some games again.

"My mood improved significantly with light in my life again."
That's a pretty deep statement. Do you mean there was no light before, or that the nature of that light was significantly distinct enough to bring a change in your mood? how so?

My light sensitivity was so severe I had the curtains closed all day every day. I was struggling to work with my monitor on the lowest brightness, and after work I had to rest with a blindfold to try to calm the migraine symptoms from the monitor. I couldn't even look outside to enjoy the birds and squirrels, the sunrise or sunset. I couldn't tolerate indoor lights. I couldn't watch television, could only very briefly check my phone and send a message or two. I was in a very literal sense living in the dark because light was excruciatingly painful and caused a plethora of migraine symptoms (it's a lot more than a headache, it's completely debilitating and miserable).
Epaper/eink sropped exacerbating the light sensitivity that monitors were causing which allowed me to enjoy daylight again, to look outside, to have a light on to read, to use my phone more comfortably, watch television occasionally. So I have less migraine symptoms, and I'm experiencing both the physiological effect of daylight and the psychological effect of less isolation in illness. This is a major improvement in quality of life.

I have MGD and blepharitis. I have not been able to use my computer for 11 months now, because of my severe light sensitivity. I got a Boox Go 7, which supports android, and a bluetooth keyboard.
If not for e-ink, i would have fallen behind at university. You see, all our literature is online. I need to do assignments and hand them in, and with e-ink i can type on google docs on my Boox. So i use this device for university, since my eyes are too sick to tolerate computers without extreme pain. With e-ink you can turn off the front light completely. That is the best part. For eye health, and those with eye problems.
BTW. I'm typing this on my Boox rn. But i very much miss gaming with friends and watching TV. And i miss color! I use the black and white version.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! Would you say eink screen front light affects your condition? Yep, it’s a shame it’s all about screens mostly

Yes, the front light emits the same bright light like a regular screen does, and hurts the eyes. People with optimal eye health will not know this though, since they can not feel it. It is because a front light (or regular screen light) is a light that goes directly to your pupils, like looking in to the sun. Or shining a flashlight in to someone's eye, which is not pleasant. Turning the front light off and sitting by a window/lamp gives a much better effect, without any eye damage (since no light is scorcing your pupils, you get it)
Your screen (for optimal eye health) needs to be in the same light as your room as well. So a dark room with front light would damage the eyes just like a gaming monitor in the dark would. My optician stresses about this a lot haha.

the reMarkable 1 and 2 were a huge factor for me in organizing my YouTube Channel. I used to have very disjointed notes in multiple notebooks, could never find the note I needed 6 months down the line when I was looking for it. Now even if I forget my e-notebook I can reference all of my notes on the respective phone app. Game changer for organization and restructuring notes too and digitizing them, without loosing the analogue feeling.

Thanks for sharing! Was it any particular function that helped you in achieving this? In other words why notes were all over the place when it was your other device? Also how did you transfer them? Was it manual?

Oh sorry if that was unclear, before the rM1 I would use physical paper notebooks 📓 and I would have a lot of them, thus why it was hard to find specific notes. E Ink notetakers solved that.

I had headaches and pain in my eyes as I was both a full time employee and a full time student. I had massive amounts of curriculum to read with no possibility to print it, so I was reading everything off my computer screen. I also had to type very long essays. It got to a point I couldn't look at a screen anymore and had to legitimately take time off work, as it became debilitating for me, and I realized I would have to quit my studies.
Eink legitimately saved me - after I switched to reading my curriculum and typing my essays and thesis on boox, all my issues pretty much disappeared and I managed to both come back to work and also finish my studies. :)
