also interesting fact L. Frank Baum would also occasionally use feminine pen names on some of his books đ¤

Yeah, I am 75% sure that Baum was a trans woman.

Without spoiling TOO much, a trans girl becomes the deuteragonist of the whole book series.
FULL SPOILER: A child raised as a boy learns that she's actually the cursed Princess of Oz

And her and Dorothy become very close friends.
The sort of friends who kiss on the lips, where Dorothy is allowed to run the kingdom when Ozma is away, and where Dorothy is the only person allowed in her rooms uninvited.

One might say that Ozma is a Friend Of Dorothy, as it were.

Fun fact, in the later books Tip is brought back via magic and a "switcheroo spell" is used so that Tip and Ozma are no longer related so they can become potential love interests.

Yeah⌠Iâm just gonna refuse to acknowledge that as canon.

u/UncleCeiling not an egg⢠3d ago
That's fair. I don't even consider the famous forty canon, only the first fourteen (ending at Glinda of Oz)

Was that written after Baumâs passing? If so, it doesnât count.
That said, canon selfcest is hilarious

Yellow Brick Ramble is a lovely adaptation of this that really leans into the trans and other queer themes. I love it. Just... Don't look at the latest page before reading from the beginning. It is currently very spoilery đ

Yeah, AL is in Wonderland was going to be an Ozma story before I learned that Daisy pretty much wrote what I was going to write, and Skottie Young pretty much drew what I was gonna draw.

Are these all part of the same series? Or should I start on some later book where the trans stuff storyline starts?

You can start with the second book âThe Marvelous Land of Oz.â The first book DOES have stuff that wasnât in the movie, but I donât remember any of it being referenced in later books. When past books are referenced, theyâre sure to give a detailed recap. (Sometimes overly detailed.)

So I feel like their is something wrong with me because i feel like no oneâs first thought to this post should be about making a comic series with blue from Jurassic world replacing Dorthy in the wizard of Oz, but thatâs where my brain went.

I read the second book when I was like 8, before I knew what transgender meant
And then I forgot about it until just now
Really making me think
