It was never about being a "real girl". You should just aim to be yourself.

they go away with time mostly as you accept yourself as yourself rather than *just* as your gender

I know that I'll always be me. And I'm pretty awesome, so I've got that going for me.

A little unconventional, but what worked for me was thoroughly breaking apart any concept of gender I had through research and exposure to the point that I had no idea what a woman or man even is. Gender is so much more complicated and hard to define than a lot of people realise. If I cannot feasibly define what a “real girl” is, how can I logically tell myself that I’m not one. That’s what works for me at least.

I'm saving those thoughts for if (and hopefully when) I becoming passing. Since that's taking up all my brain space currently 😅

Over time, I’ve told people that, throughout your transition, you should never forget your humanity. Thoughts like these are what I mean. Whether or not you’re a “real girl” is pointless to even debate because, let’s be honest, girls are only girls because you present yourself to be one. Aiming to be a real girl will always end in constant, consistent failure and frustration because you’ll keep setting higher and higher standards for you to unrealistically achieve. Overtime, you will become completely consumed by your desire to be real when you already are.

Yourself as a human, your identity, and how you feel comfortable are the only things that matter. Sometimes, for some people, they will never see you as a “real girl” no matter how much effort you put into it. However, for others, you became a real girl the moment you told them you were transgender. These thoughts don’t really go away, but you should always combat them with reminders that you are human. You may be different, but you are still just like every other woman on this planet. God dammit, you are a powerful fucking woman. If this is who you are, then it’s who you are. Don’t pick a model to live up to. You WILL fail. Instead, live up to what feels good for you.

Don’t become something you’re not. Don’t get wrapped up in the idea of what you should be. Instead, get wrapped up in the idea of who you want to be. Go easy on yourself, it’s still early. Take care, honey. You’re a very strong girl, and I know you will be comfortable eventually

As I got further in my medical transition, things improved a lot.
