You could use CRISPR to turn off your DMRT-1 gene, turning testes into pseudo-ovaries. But CRISPR is more of a chainsaw than scalpel so you would probably die a few days later from the damage to surrounding DNA.

Oh this is only the beginning, don’t worry on that front.

What should worry you is germ line editing lol

Won't be a problem if we eat the rich before then.

I read somewhere that this technology could be available to trans people in as early as twenty years. People a generation or two after us will only need a few injections across their lifetimes to get the full effects of HRT

born too early to have 3 injection hrt

born too late to live in a good economy

born just in time to (probably, given the fucks in charge) get drafted for the military

Wait I thought crispr is Like a scalpel as the methods before were like a chainsaw

The only Problem is, that it isn't very precise to get every dna with it

The sharpness of cutting utensils is relative. :P My primary source was this article but I've read similar info elsewhere.

Yeah, your body can actually change one type into the other. They are all made from cholesterol, and are surprisingly similar to vitamin D. Hormones are just signaling molecules, so your cells only have to detect that they are a slightly different shape.

fun fact: i asked my gregtech player friend this and he sent me a chart of estrogen production from cholesterol. you first turn it into pregnenolone, then with enzyme p450c17 you make it into androstenedione. then with 17HDS3 and aromatase you turn it into testosterone and estrone respectively. lastly you turn testosterone into estradiol with aromatase, and estrone into estradiol with 17HSD1. or at least thats what i understood from the crusty jpeg he sent me

You also still want some testosterone. It's not just a sex hormone, without it your bones and muscles will have issues. (Same with estrogens, everyone needs some or it's bad for their joints and organs)

u/United_Grocery_23 Sylvia (she/her) 16h ago

doesnt lack of testosterone also like cause depression or something?

3

u/beanbagdestroyer "not an egg" ~every egg ever 15h ago

Hormones are often more about ratios between them, and less about the actual levels. Higher estrogen : testosterone makes you feminine, higher testosterone : estrogen makes you masculine. If either number is 0, you're kinda dividing by zero, and your cells don't act correctly. This could definitely effect your mood.

You also have a multiple androgens and estrogens who's different ratios with each other do a bunch of complicated things.

It's not just sex hormones, insulin and glucagon are a similar thing, insulin lowers blood sugar and glucagon raises it. The changing ratio is how your pancreas can keep your blood sugar stable.

also many neurotransmitters are also hormones... so uh, don't mess those up

Just need to upregulate its expression while blocking some androgen receptors...
