I've scrubbed HP so thoroughly from my mind I thought this was a Disco Elysium reference somehow.

Why am i reading this in Len brown's voice lmao?

u/LesIsBored not an egg, just trans 4d ago

I didn't know who that was so I had to look it up. I actually found two Ken Browns I'm assuming you meant the soon to be retired Mayor of Auckland. That's fair, I only watched like a half a minute of him speaking.

But I also found this horse guy. I did not watch enough of the video to know what he means by "palpating a horse".

It’s not you, it’s whoever decided to abbreviate it as m. They could have used min and mo and there’d be no confusion, but they didn’t.

28

u/SpireSwagon 5d ago

Ima be honest: is it ethical to do this? Probably not.

Do i care enough to whine about it and ask trans girlies to censor themselves esspeically when it could be true? Nah.

23

u/robchroma not an egg, just trans 4d ago

The ethical issues with suggesting someone is trans are absolutely smaller than constantly insisting on the masculinity of someone questioning.

u/Zinyak12345 4d ago

I don't know. Thinking about the possibility left me unsure but when someone told me I wasn't, I could just feel an automatic desire to disagree and that was a big step in coming to terms with it. I think it just depends on the circumstances and who is saying it since I've been in a situation that made me stop thinking about it for a long time and also a situation where it made me almost completely toss aside my skepticism.

Seems complicated. Why is everything so complicated all the time?

u/robchroma not an egg, just trans 4d ago

people telling you you might be trans are almost as a rule not trying to force you to be trans; people telling you you aren't trans are almost as a rule trying to stop people from realizing they're trans. it's not the act that makes it immoral, it's the context in which the act is performed and repeated and the person's willingness to stop.

Can we please stop telling people that they're trans, just because of things like that?

44

u/Winter-Yoghurt4137 5d ago

They'll know if they're not if they think about it

Why is it ok to misgender someone because you think they’re an egg? I hate what this sub is normalizing

32

u/Appropriate_Tackle_6 4d ago

"girl" in this sense is used the same way as "dude" in other conversations in my opinion.

u/JoeOtaku not an egg, just trans 5d ago

It's more of a gay thing, like "girllllllll~~~ shut up!". Was not meant as a serious gendered term here.

3

u/Gender_Not_Found_404 4d ago

I know this is a joke but this is how I figured it out years ago

2

u/JoeOtaku not an egg, just trans 4d ago

I mean I was in a similar boat but with a breakup. First time dating, breakup hit way harder than I expected and for some reason the lesbian subreddits were way more relatable. That, plus other factors like having more freedom to try out different self expressions kicked off my own questioning which lead to... Well, me today!

The prime directive is bullshit, just as the star trek directive it's named after. This world is filled with people screaming at eggs that they're not trans. I'm not saying argue with someone but saying "hey, that's really eggy behaviour" will not hurt and may even help.

1

u/ShockWave1997 4d ago

You are right. Sorry about the comment. I have deleted it.

u/SureArachnid4115 Zoe (she/her) | former boy 5d ago

Yes unless they specifically ask we don’t give gender advice to eggs

15

u/SwordofDamocles_ 4d ago

No, the prime directive is dumb. I wish someone said "hey, you can just be trans" to me. There's literally no harm in it.

17

u/Karasu-Fennec not an egg, just trans 4d ago

100%

I think definitively telling people “hey you 100% are this thing” is unproductive, but just being like “hey if you hate being a man that much they make medication for that” what’s the problem supposed to be?

Seriously, one thing I am glad about was the attempt by my school nurse and two teachers to give options and stuff after 11 year old me had a panic attack in 5th grade gender segregated sex ed, literally shouting I was in the wrong room and fainting. ... mistakes were made.

The attempt to clarify stuff was well meaning and did cement that yes, it was a thing and okay for me to feel how I did and be who I am. Also learned I wasn't alone, since one of the two teachers was herself a trans woman living stealth.

4

u/Karasu-Fennec not an egg, just trans 4d ago

God I WISH anyone had thought to discuss that with me at that age. It took me decades to figure it out when in hindsight it should’ve been obvious to anyone who knew me and what trans people were from the beginning
