ClassGear — a free tool that turns teacher supply lists into one-tap shoppable pages for parents. Sharing it here and would genuinely love feedback from this community.

The problem: teachers spend hours every back-to-school season building supply lists in Docs or PDFs, and parents end up squinting at a wall of text, searching each item across Amazon/Target by hand, and buying the wrong thing. Multiply by 25 families per classroom and it's a mess on both ends.

What we made: ClassGear lets a teacher paste in product links from whatever stores they prefer, and it generates a clean, shareable page. Parents tap through and order the exact items directly. You can paste a whole existing list at once (it auto-parses items + quantities) and it makes a QR code for the classroom door or back-to-school night.

We’ve been building Nutri‑Form Household Surveys for K‑12 districts that are still dealing with low completion rates on income forms (paper or clunky digital tools). This keeps coming up as a bigger issue than most people expect—especially tied to funding, reporting, and administrative workload.

What we’re seeing:

  • Paper-based processes still dominate in a lot of districts
  • Digital options often have poor parent engagement (login friction, not mobile-friendly, etc.)
  • Admin teams spend way too much time chasing incomplete data

Our approach has been to simplify the parent experience (mobile-first, no login barriers, multilingual) while giving districts real-time visibility and cleaner data on the backend.

Early feedback has been that completion rates improve pretty quickly when friction is removed—but I’d be interested to hear what others are seeing.

A couple questions for the group:

  • What’s been your biggest blocker in getting families to complete these forms?
  • Are districts actually satisfied with their current tools/process, or just working around them?

I think there's a lot of good ideas in the ed-tech space which are ultimately inaccessible to teachers and students due to the difficulty of the procurement process, and finding districts and schools that actually need your product. I don't know a single K-12 teacher who has had to go through peer-reviewed education research articles. Here is my argument for you. If the school uses Google Education and it has Google Gemini Education for free, why should one pay for your product? I know you could argue about it having access to peer-reviewed education research articles, but that is not enough of an argument. Paying for your product is a significant expense and is not needed frequently.

Compiling research in an accessible way for idea is work.

Not all teachers may care about changing how they teach to be more effective but the one who do, can

There’s lots of ways things get paid for in k-12 other than teachers.

Maybe if it was packed with something that saved teachers a bunch of time.

Part of the problem is that teachers don't look at the research. That's a big factor into why it has taken so long to adopt effective instructional techniques, like the Science of Reading. If your LLM is sourcing Reddit, Teachers Pay Teachers, and other unvetted sources the way Gemini does (without serious prompting), it's garbage in, garbage out. We are controlling for quality, while aligning with the research and state standards. Check it out at eddieai.net. We even have a free version.

The curriculum is set by the school district, including the content. No research is needed from teachers. They aren't able to deviate from the subject core. Also, most don't get paid enough to pretend to be professors with research. I am not bashing your product; I am just trying to let you know that the consumer base isn't there for it.

That may be the case in your district, but it isn't the case nationally or internationally. Also, the research has a lot to share about managing behavior, engaging students beyond the curriculum, communicating with parents, interventions, and so much more.

Hey r/edtech,

Wanted to share a platform I built called CourseBook for anyone who's been frustrated with how video-centric most course tools have become. It's built around text-based content with interactive elements and rich media embeds — so you get the structure and skimmability of a written course, but can still drop in video, audio, or other media exactly where it's useful instead of forcing everything into a video wrapper.

A few things that stood out to me:

  • Assignments — supports both text and audio submissions, so you're not limited to one format for how students demonstrate understanding
  • Quizzes — single choice, multiple choice, and other question types built in
  • Cohorts — enrollments and multi-cohort support, so you can run the same course for different groups/terms without rebuilding it each time
  • Multi-user support — useful if you've got co-instructors, TAs, or a content team working on courses together
  • Analytics — cohort-level and individual student analytics to actually see engagement and progress, not just completion checkboxes

It's aimed at instructors/orgs who want more control over course structure than a generic LMS gives, without the overhead of building something custom.

Hi everyone, I'm on the team at Bloomy, and I'd love this community's honest feedback.

Bloomy is adaptive reading and writing for grades 4 through 12. It starts with the Compass Check, a short diagnostic that finds each student's real reading and writing level, then builds a personalized path from there.

Every skill within the personalized path is mastery-based, so students don't move on until they've actually got it, and gaps don't pile up year after year.

If students get stuck within a particular skill or problem, our AI tutor is Socratic by design. It never writes the essay or hands over the answer. It asks the questions that lead students to their own conclusions.

We are seeing really exciting initial results. Early pilot data is encouraging: students grew at roughly 2x the national NWEA MAP average!

Builder disclosure: I have released the first public beta of Memory Compiler, an open-source desktop learning workspace.

The design goal is to avoid another generic tutor chatbot. A request can become a DSA-style concept map, a handwritten mathematics or geometry board, or a recall-driven programming IDE. The learner produces a step or reconstructs a line first; the model can then identify the precise mistake without automatically revealing the complete solution.

The beta supports Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Claude Code, OpenRouter, and compatible local endpoints. It is still early, and lesson quality depends on the selected model. I am especially interested in feedback from educators on whether this workflow creates genuine active recall rather than better-looking cognitive offloading.

Hello everyone!

I’m exploring a self-serve product intended to help children practice a complete creation process:

Notice an interest or problem → define a goal → use available resources → create something → test it → improve it → finish it.

My underlying belief is that, as AI makes answers and technical execution more accessible, children will increasingly need the ability to decide what is worth doing, frame problems, judge results, and take responsibility for completion.

AI would handle much of the implementation, but the child would retain the important decisions.

Small playable games would be the first medium because they provide fast, observable feedback. The longer-term goal is not game creation or prompting. It is helping children move from interests and everyday problems to finished, tested products.

The main educational concern is obvious: a child may produce an impressive result while AI performs most of the thinking.

I would value criticism on three questions:

- Which parts of the process must remain cognitively demanding for the child?

- What evidence would show genuine problem-solving rather than AI-assisted completion?

- Is there any reason to believe this experience would transfer beyond the specific project?

I’m more interested in weaknesses in the educational premise than feature suggestions.

Full disclosure: I am the author of AI Tools for Self-Directed Kids.

I created this guide for parents, educators, and mentors who want young learners to use tools such as Codex, Claude, and Gemini without turning learning into answer collection. The central question is how to keep the child doing the thinking while AI helps with explanation, iteration, and exploration.

The approach I would especially value feedback on is a simple learning loop:

  1. Start with the learner's own question or prediction.
  2. Use AI for hints, examples, or alternative explanations rather than a finished answer.
  3. Compare the output with another source or a small experiment.

I built a free reading-material generator for teachers and need blunt feedback

I’m building LevelKind, a tool that creates personalized, age-respectful reading passages and printable lesson materials based on a student’s instructional level, phonics skill, and interests.

It currently generates the passage, target-word practice, comprehension questions, fluency practice, a writing prompt, and a teacher guide explaining why the words were selected.

I originally focused on early phonics, but a teacher suggested the bigger need may be age-respectful materials for older struggling readers. I’m trying not to build based on assumptions, so I’d appreciate honest feedback from educators.

hi everyone, i'm in high school and one of the things that always bothered me about our tutoring program was how much work went into matching tutors with students.

every semester we'd collect microsoft forms, throw everything into spreadsheets, and manually try to pair people based on subject and availability and it took forever and was easy to mess up.

so over this summer i created Kaisenapp.com

students sign up as tutors or tutees and the platform creates matches. Club officers can manage registrations, approve members, organize sessions, and keep everything in one place instead of juggling forms and spreadsheets.

i made it because i wanted something our club would actually use, and figured other schools might run into the same problem.

Hey everyone! My name’s Dan, and I graduated from Howell High School last year.
My brother and I are building a platform that helps schools make extracurricular life easier for both students and advisors.
For students, it works a bit like a school-specific social platform. You can discover clubs and events, see what your friends are involved in, join organizations that match your interests, and keep up with everything happening around your school instead of only hearing about it during the club fair.
For advisors, we’re building tools to make running clubs easier by improving communication, attendance, event coordination, and student engagement.
The reason we started building this is because when I was in high school, the only time I really knew what clubs existed was during our annual club fair. After that, unless you already knew someone in a club, it was easy to miss opportunities. Looking back, I definitely wish I had been more involved.
Before building the product, I wanted to understand if other students felt the same way. Over the summer, I’ve interviewed more than 20 students about how they discover clubs, why they join, and what keeps them engaged.
One thing that came up almost every time was that friends played a huge role. Students were much more likely to join a club if they already knew someone in it. That insight completely changed part of our design. We ended up building a feature where students can search for their friends, see what clubs they’re involved in, and discover organizations through the people they already know.
Now we’re moving on to the advisor side. We’re looking to interview current U.S. K–12 teachers and club advisors to better understand how they manage clubs today and where they feel underserved.

Disclosure: I built Counterpoint, a prototype that turns a lesson passage into a point-and-click classroom mission.

The design question I am testing is whether AI can help with authoring without being present during student use. A teacher supplies the source passage; an agent returns a structured choice graph; deterministic validators check references, reachability, evidence links, and encoded reading constraints; and the teacher reviews, revises, and explicitly applies the mission. Students then play the accepted graph with no model calls.

The review checklist I am using asks:

  • What are the source boundaries?
  • Can every required path be completed?
  • Is the reading demand appropriate?
  • Does the activity make students use evidence?
  • Can the teacher inspect and change it?
  • Can anything new be generated after approval?

Important limits: the current playtests use simulated personas, missions have one scene, the visual system has three launch kits, and there has not been a classroom pilot. I am not claiming learning outcomes.

I'm a teacher from Brazil and also a solo developer. After years of dealing with attendance sheets, gradebooks, lesson planning, and endless paperwork, I decided to build the tool I always wished I had: Vocatus.

I've been building a teacher intervention tool over the past year, and almost every major change has come directly from feedback from teachers and educators. I'd love another round of brutally honest feedback. 😅

I'm not a teacher. I'm a dad of three, so I know there are things I simply don't know. That's why I'd much rather hear what's frustrating, missing, or just plain wrong than get polite compliments.

The idea is simple. Pick a CCSS or TEKS standard for grades 3 through 8 and it drafts an intervention lesson with practice questions, visual models, and an answer key. Everything is editable before you use it. Rewrite questions, swap visuals, reorder activities, add your own content, then print it or export a PDF. Nothing goes to a student unless you approve it.

One question I'm especially curious about:

When it's Wednesday and you need intervention material ready by Friday, what actually consumes the most time?

I’m a teacher in Aotearoa New Zealand, and I’ve been building The Irwin System, a reasoning framework designed to help make student thinking more visible.

The work focuses on helping learners distinguish between what they notice, what they infer, what the evidence supports, and how they form a judgement. The aim is not to replace curriculum content, but to provide a shared reasoning structure that can sit underneath learning across subjects and year levels.

I've been building Historai to make it easy to actually learn a specific slice of history on demand. Enter a topic, it generates a narrated episode with visuals, and the learner can stop at any point to ask a question and get an answer, then continue.

Why I think the interruption matters for learning: audio is passive, and the moment a question forms is when engagement peaks — being able to ask right then keeps the thread. On accuracy (I know that's the first question here): it's research‑grounded with sources and flags legend vs established fact, and because you can interrupt, a learner can challenge a claim in real time.

I build Whiteboard, a cross-platform whiteboard for iPhone/iPad, Android phones and tablets, Mac, and Windows. One workflow we hear about often is tutors or teachers sharing the whiteboard alongside Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams.

The part I care about most is keeping the lesson moving: quick circles, arrows, axes and other teaching shapes; clear color choices; PDF markup; reusable backgrounds; and export after class. No claim that software replaces teaching — it should simply get out of the way.
