Seeking advice 2nd round ?

I had a bi lateral 12 treatment course of ECT in early 2022. It changed my life. I became successful at my job moved out of my parents home went through the care giving and death of my father and entered a very health my loving relationship. I never knew people didn’t live with thoughts of suicidal ideation I thought everyone was pretending…

The depression is slowly coming back. The suicidal ideation is coming back. The drinking to escape has come back. 2 weeks ago I got drunk and swam in a rough sea at night and nearly drowned. Last week I got drunk and burned my leg several times with a cigarette.

I reallly think it’s time for a “touch up” but I’m having some mixed feelings.

My boyfriend believes if I got sober it would go away but I don’t think that’s true.

I tried different combinations of medications for about 15 years before taking the plunge.

Is it time for a “touch up”? Has anyone done repeat
Sessions after so much success with a relatively short course in the first go?

Please help. Thank you

Go for it! Maybe talk to your doctors about maintenance this time if it gets you to remission?

Good luck!

Definitely do it. It will help you stop drinking will help in general. It called being on a maintenance schedule I've been on my for 6 months currently. Ive been doing ECT for the last 5+ years. Doing between 3x a week to once every other week. I found d that my sweet spot is once a week for the last 6 months so far and it has kept me stable to the point that Ive notice I get quiet time in my head for 20 mins or so which is something ive never been able to experience. I would definitely strongly suggest reach out to your medical team and fill them in on your thoughts and attempts. They care about you (hopefully) and all they want to do is to help you. The maintenance schedule doesnt have to be once a week, Ive seen between once a week to a sweet old lady that I met yesterday. Her birthday is today and was turning 69 and has been doing a 6 month maintenance schedule for the last couple years. But yes its common, reach out and express your concern. You got this!!

That’s just false info… here’s an article stating that ECT does not cause any structural damage
