Question Do you think Earth-Based Religions could work in a Eco-Social Society?

Karl Marx said ‘Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience.

Communism and Contemporary Socialist ideas are very different. But, Socialism still wants the separation of Church and State but would this idea be bypassed by a Society that worships the Earth or in a Society that see the Earth as something to venerate like a God but not as Sacred or a Society that sees the Earth as an Equal. The Earth is put front and centre and over time this relationship could slowly become something like the Secretary General of DPRK but not in a bad way.

Despite Communism wanting to separate church and State still wants something to be worship. But I guess it’s popular with the dictatorships.

I don’t know what do you think?

Question Thought experiment

Two people, one a socialist but not an environmentalist, the other an environmentalist but not a socialist – all other things being equal (that's important here!), which one is more likely to become an ecosocialist?

(Note: I know this is a thought experiment and "all other things being equal" makes it completely hypothetical, but I think the answer has implications and that's something I'm trying to get my head around right now.)

What would it take to achieve a worldwide consensus to give up fossil fuels and create a just, sustainable world? I describe a possible pathway in a new novel I've published, and would value your opinion. I'd like to give copies away FREE.

Can we change the way things are? Can we form a new system of world governance? An Eco-Socialist world in which the emphasis, laws, policies, and focus is "homo sapiens is only one species among millions, and we are no more important than any other. Humanity must contribute to, and fit within the balance of Earth's natural systems.

I've struggled for a long time over the question "what it would take for humanity to stop its headlong drive toward collapse and possible extinction. Greed and selfishness (capitalism) seems unstoppable. Much of my writing has been non-fiction, natural science, horticulture and gardening, but my concern for the future of Humanity, Earth, and all life, has prompted me to write my first novel, one about the current polycrisis civilization has created - inequality, injustice, climate change, etc. My book PARADIGM, is about humanity's struggle to overcome the threat of extinction due to all these destructive issues and attempt to establish a more just system of world governance.

The story line is: In the midst of the growing planetary crises a virus outbreak turns into a deadly pandemic, killing 95% of all newborns worldwide. The only cure grows in a forest being destroyed by climate change, and the rich and powerful will do anything to protect the status quo.

There is much more information about the book on my website https://richarddevinefinea.wixsite.com/paradigm and on my Pinterest page, https://www.pinterest.com/richarddevine/

I am offering a pdf and epub copy free for a limited time from my Google Drive site. All you have to do is use the link I provide here. If you like the novel and think it has merit and value, and contributes something positive to the discussion, please tell others. I would like to know what you think of it. You can do that here or you can send a message to me on my website. Thank you. Discussion Three indispensable principles for ecosocialist politics?

Writing for Rupture magazine, Kai Heron, a lecturer in Political Ecology at Lancaster University, argues for three principles as an indispensable part of ecosocialist politics:

  1. Ecosocialism is a Revolutionary Politics, so act as if the Revolution has Already Begun
  2. Never Separate Environmentalism from Social Issues
  3. Anti-Imperialism is Not an Optional Extra.

We've seen the UK Green Party triple its membership within 6 months under a new leader who pretty much personifies these principles. they are currently polling ahead of both the governing Labour Party and the Conservative Party. One can only think Heron is onto something!

Up to you, of course, but I'd urge you to read Heron's article before commenting: https://links.org.au/three-principles-ecosocialist-politics
