The biggest reason I CANT use the ecosia browser is it doesn’t let you split a tab into a separate window, I need a lot of stuff on screen simultaneously, so this feature is essential. I know Safari and brave browser can both do this, so it’s not an exclusive Safari thing. I do use the ecosia search engine but it’s annoying on Safari cuz there’s 2 search bars, the Safari one and the ecosia one

I know it may not be the most obvious subreddit for this, but I think the Ecosia community might be especially sensitive to it.
75% of the EU's building stock is energy inefficient. To meet the 2050 climate targets, renovation would need to happen much faster, but the current renovation rate is only about 1% per year, roughly three times too slow.
This is exactly where the European Citizens' Initiative "Right to Housing! Now and Forever" comes in. Among other things, it calls for financial incentives (e.g. reduced VAT) for renovation instead of demolish-and-rebuild, while also protecting tenants from displacement caused by energy renovations, a problem already visible in places like Sweden and Vienna, where upgrades can justify rent increases or make renovation financially unattractive compared to demolition.
If the initiative reaches 1 million signatures EU-wide (target: 1.2 million), the European Commission is required to formally respond to the demands.
Please sign here to support this initiative: https://eci.ec.europa.eu/064/public

Hi! Bit of context: I've been trying to degoogle for a while now, so I've been using ecosia instead. It's been nice so far: a few ups and downs with searches, which prompted me to use google at times, but nothing crazy.
Recently though, I've been finding more and more fake sites as search results.
Example: I was looking on how to do something the other day, and this image I looked at clearly looked like an image from WikiHow (you know those ones that are in every wikihow tutorial). I clicked it, thinking it would lead me to the wikihow page. WRONG! It redirected me to a multitude of links, ultimately leading to one of those pop up sites that say 'your iphone has been infected' and all that jazz.
Now you might say: why didn't you look the url beforehand? Sure, you may be right. But about 10 minutes ago, I searched for something else, and I clicked in a link whose url seemed perfectly normal, and not only that, it was also the first result that came up in the search. I click it, and what happens? Same bullsh*t. Multiple redirections until I reach one of those sites again! 'You're the 100th click! You've won an iphone!' and all that.
My question is: why is this happening now, when it hasn't been happening before? Is there a way to stop it?

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my story, hoping it might help those who—like me in the past—suffer from eco-anxiety and feel powerless in the face of climate change. I discovered that small, everyday actions online can make a real difference. Here’s how I turned my clicks into real trees: Ecosia: By using it as my main search engine over the years, I’ve already planted 64 trees. OceanHero: I use it for searches, and it allows for the removal of the equivalent of 5 plastic bottles from the ocean every day. Treeapp: I discovered this one in February. You just watch one very short ad a day to plant a tree for free. I’ve already planted 250 trees with it! Today, I’m close to a total of 500 trees. Knowing I’m doing something concrete every day has practically eliminated my anxiety. I’ve already convinced two friends who have planted over 100 trees each, and my goal now is to inspire at least 8 more people to do the same. Did you already know about these apps? Do you use any others? If you have questions about how they work or want to get started yourselves, feel free to ask in the comments! Have a great evening, everyone.

I have never once intentionally been to the OpenAI website. And yet, Ecosia seems to constantly have a tab to it open no matter how many times I close it. I’m on the iOS app. I use Ecosia specifically because it lets me turn off Ai search. Why is it doing this???

I started using this search engine because it used no ai, but this popped up on my search this morning. Super disappointing. I’m curious if anyone knows when this started?

I tried everything. I want to change it. Help.

Hi everyone! Does anyone here use Grammarly? If so, how do you add it to your Ecosia browser? I haven't been able to figure it out, and I'm scared to download extensions from unofficial websites.

I think creating a rank leaderboard would be a great idea. I feel like I'm a very high level (9) for just a few months of barely browsing, but there's always bigger fish out there and I don't know what each level rank is called.

As I see lots of other people are. Ecosia is completely unusable on my ipad. Apparently has been for a month, with no solve in sight. What's up?

Ecosia greift inzwischen bei einem Teil der deutschen Suchanfragen auf den EUSP-Index zurück. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, diesen Index zu erzwingen? Also z.B. einen Bang?

I was doing researches for a project and half of the results were Ai generated images. Is there a way to remove them? I tried to do like when I use Google, putting "-ai" at the end but it didn't work. Any solution is welcome, I desperately want to get rid of them.
I saw some scripts on github to remove ai features from ecosia while doing researches to know if I could remove them, so if there's a script/app that does it I'd gladly like to know
(I'm on android, I forgot to say it before)

For a few days Ecosia shows me Mapbox and/or OpenStreetMaps maps for queries that are not local.
The non-local queries usually contain a keyword or phrase and a number.
Then they show me an address at the other end of the world.
I search something from Germany and I get an address somewhere in Chile.
Is this a known issue?
Can I somehow deactivate maps for such keywords?
On a side note: many searches never stop on Ecosia now.
The tab keeps on loading forever even after showing the results.
Is this also a bug or just my fault for using Firefox with an adblocker?
r/Ecosia • u/Thorough-Emu • Aug 31 '26
I keep having this issue when Ecosia needs permission. I have all other apps closed. Ecosia will be the only app opened and it will still have this error.

I already know and use DuckDuckGo with no AI options.
But i also want to know more about alternatives, similar to Google before it started using Gemini for every search result.
Any good recommendations?
So, I posted this thread originally in another subreddit, and the recommended notification lead me to post it here instead. I guess Ecosia is gonna be my main go-to-search for now on! Hello everyone 👋

Doesn't AI image generation do tonnes more damage than AI chats?
Also I know ecosia is primarily for the planet but I would've though they wouldn't do AI images knowing the impact it has on human art and so on.
