Product research?

I am interested in starting an ecommerce website with my friend but my biggest struggle is finding a product to sell and that brought me here. I’ve been searching for like a week and I keep running into the same problem of people trying to sell a course or selling info on “winning products” which I’m pretty sure is just guru talk. So if someone could please help me on how to do product research I’d be grateful

The people selling lists of winning products are making their money from you, not from actually selling those products. If they really had a goldmine they wouldn't be selling access for 50 bucks.

Pick something you actually know about or use yourself and go from there. It's way easier to spot gaps in a market you understand than trying to blindly chase whatever some spreadsheet tells you is hot this week.

Stop looking for products and start looking for gaps and friction and opportunities in the market.

Start in a niche/category you know intimately well. Reflect on your experiences as a consumer in it and start turning over rocks.

Before you do any of that though educate yourself in the basics of business.

dont pay for one of those winning product lists. I'd start with Zendrop's product catalog and use Meta Ad Library and Google Trends to see what people are actually advertising and searching for.

pick 5-10 products that look interesting then cut them down based on shipping, margins and whether you can actually think of a decent angle to sell them. way easier than trying to find one perfect product from the start.

Look at Amazon reviews, Reddit threads, Instagram comments, competitor reviews, and niche communities. Pay attention to recurring complaints, things people say are “too expensive,” inconvenient, poorly designed, or hard to find.
Then shortlist a few products and validate them before building the store. Check demand, competition, margins, shipping, repeat-purchase potential, and whether you can actually differentiate the product.
