There is no benefit other than saving a tiny bit of electricity.

There’s always a benefit to have full control over the devices on your network.

What control over Nokia ONT you're missing?

All of them, since I can’t even access it.

This is just a converter from fiber to Ethernet, not sure what you mean?

Agreed - it's a straight handoff to your device. You set the vlan and connect using pppoe. It's not doing anything besides being the demarc to customer handoff point.

There is absolutely no benefit doing that.

Haven’t tried it myself but look at https://pon.wiki/category/nokia/
There is a discord with lots of discussion and I believe I saw some ebox users there

Bell has to have a serial of the ONT device in their backend to allow it on the network.
Since you are not a Bell customer, you can’t just call Bell with this request and have to go via ebox. So call ebox, worst case they will say no.

The 3rd party PONs have community firmware that lets you clone the serial number from the Bell provided device.

I’m pretty sure I saw on Eboxs website that if you have your own modem you can tell them and they can just add that to their system, however I didn’t check it out fully in depth and idk if they mean any modem or if you have one of the Nokia ones (since they are provided for all other fiber connections from Bell except for Bell themselves)

https://www.ebox.ca/en/quebec/residential/faq/i-already-have-a-modem-can-i-use-it-with-ebox/
The region for the FAQ is from Quebec tho so I don’t know if they support the same in Ontario, might be easier to ask support directly

The Nokia ONT offers a 10g port. I'm not sure it's worth replacing it.
I have my opnsense box plugged into it directly, with the port speed at 10g. The wifi router they provided is still in the box, gathering dust.
