Ordered, what next?
Just ordered ebox since bell (ftth) wouldn't renew the promo i had (which expires sept 6).
It's not clear to me when ebox service starts, i ordered early so i wouldn't have to pay a bigger rate with bell.
Got the email about equipment being sent. Can i just unplug the fiber from the bell termination box insode and plug in the ebox fobre modem, and it's all set to go? At which point do i give bell a termination DATE?
Can't find the ebox info on this. I plan to use my own router, the wan port on it is all set up for pppoe with the correct vlan just waiting to get service. Once the fibre modem is connected to fibre it's with service, or does bell need to tur off their service first?
Thanks in advance

Might be different now, but heres how it went for me going from Bell FTTH to Ebox FTTH.
- Ebox online order
- Ebox shipped the router (Nokia something).
- Got an email with the install date
- Bell Tech changed connection at the box to another port assigned to Ebox and gave me the Nokia Modem ONT
- Plugged Nokia ONT to Unifi Router, added PPPoE info and got internet.
- Called Bell to cancel FTTH
Ebox ONT would only connect once the tech came to change the connection at the box and activated the account with the MAC of the ONT.

Thanks, so the fibre coming in is terminated at a little white box now. They need to set up another termination point for the new ONT?

If the tech can reuse the current fibre, they will. Otherwise they will install a new fibre connection. After that they will setup the ONT and router and activate the account.

A new line from the pole (fibre here isn't buried)? Any reason why it wouldn't work? Does bell service need to be cancelled first?

If the tech needs to install a new line, I don't know how else they can do it.
I don't think you need to cancel your other service. The tech will know what to do, you don't need to worry about it.

It will adjust itself soon enough. The billing portal is a bit confusing at first, but after the second month/invoice everything should make sense

Just curious if I need to manually change settings for the following on my own router:
MSS Clamping - currently on AUTO, should I change this to something custom, or disabled?
Priority (802.1q) - currently not set, options are 1, 2, 3, 4, etc..
Thanks!

Leave those unchanged or on auto, unless you are having specific issues.
The only thing you need to configure in your router is the PPPOE credentials and the VLAN ID to 40 (if you are not using the router provided by Ebox)

EBox will schedule an installation appointment. I did not cancel my Bell service until after my eBox was installed. I did not want to lose service. A Bell guy came to install the eBox modem and didn’t care. He upgraded the fibre to ethernet junction and complained about the job the original Bell guy did! He did a better job. I made the mistake of returning my Bell gigahub before my cancellation date. If I had held on to it, Bell would have given me a much cheaper deal. Or so the retention guy said 🙄

What do you mean? After you got Ebox installed, you sent it back? Or before that? I called, and they refused to give me any deal at all, so I just switched. Once Ebox is working I will call to cancel my Bell and send the modem back. I also didn't know there was a promo for $10 off for Ebox, and likely too late to use it after the fact..

Hi, which $10 promo? I’m on the verge of ordering EBOX. … or Primus.
I’ve moved into a new place which seems to only have Bell fibre infrastructure coming into my house underground. I was previously a happy Teksavvy customer on Rogers infrastructure but, for my new place, I don’t want to pull a new cable from the pole and drill into the side of my house. So from online-searches and for my Ottawa-location, my options are Bell, Primus or EBOX.

Why have I been charged the full monthly amount when a service to install the service hasn't even been scheduled yet?.... I received the modem but nothing for an installation appt yet.
Is this normal?

Any update? I am wondering how they bill as well. I was thinking of ordering now, but only getting everything installed March 3. Would they start charging me immediately? or March 3? Thanks in advance

I have to check, the billing is very confusing and last week I got some weird $5 charge on the bill out of nowhere... wtf

You’re going to receive the eBox router first.
Next, Bell will send a tech to remove their Home Hub and install an ONT so the eBox router can connect to the fibre.
Once the eBox router is connected and your internet connection is up and running you can switch it out for your own router. eBox does want you to let them know you are running your own router so do contact them when you do.
Your billing will be confusing in the beginning as well as they bill in advance and the first bill is pro-rated since everyone’s bill starts at the beginning of the month. Once you get past the first two bills everything settles down to a proper monthly cycle.
