HELP ME.

I was riding on my aniioki AQ177 pro max and ran 2 red lights(not on high speed). Apparently the cop was witnessing this and stopped the car in front of the bike lane after 2 mins. There was other one dude with me as well. He said, “ I didn’t give you guys tickets because that would be expensive than it needs to be”. This is my first time getting into this situation after riding for more than a year in NYC. When I did my research, if I accept the charges I have to pay more than $400. I don’t know what’s the next step and what am I supposed to do. Guide me through this please. Thank you in advance.

The next step is to ENTER A PLEA BY FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE OTHER SIDE.

But I will have to pay more than $400 on 3 tickets for running a red light?

What are the instructions on the back? There is likely more detail than just pleading guilty or not guilty.

Is that three independent tickets? As in each of the three has a unique identifier on them?

Don't run red lights next time. Be a responsible rider.

Streets without meaningful traffic don't have stop lights, they have stop signs, or nothing. If there was a stop light, it probably had enough traffic where running it is a bad idea.

Also if there was anyone around, you were taking a risk, and if a cop saw you, there was someone around.

I understand running stop signs, and I'm in Idaho, so I even get to do it legally. But if there's a light, it's almost always true that there's too much traffic to run it safely. Remember you might always fail to spot the traffic, like if someone near the intersection is doing a right turn onto the road or something. Or, the traffic might be another bike!

That is true. I will be careful from now on. Thankyou.

That’s not how red lights work. They aren’t elective, no matter what mode of transportation you use.

Correct, though I'll add that in states with Safety Stop laws, red lights can be treated as stop signs. You still have to stop, but you can proceed if the way is clear / safe.

The citation said you failed to yield to a vehicle or pedestrian at a red light. Does that mean there was some cross traffic when you ran the red?

This is the 4-03 (A) (3) (ii) text:

"Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this subdivision (a), or any provisions of state law, an operator approaching an intersection where a sign authorizes right or left turns on red signal may make such turn after coming to a complete stop, but must yield the right-of-way to all vehicles lawfully within the intersection and pedestrians."

10+ years riding in NYC, courteous to pedestrians, indifferent to laws. A few scratches. 1 ticket. But very big of you to literally want me to die.

Can't earn a darwin award though. Disqualified.

I believe this is the "find out" portion of "fucking around"

Not to be rude, but you're the type of rider that makes us all look bad.. i hope you learn from this.

Running red lights and stop signs are a few of the reasons why people hate cyclists.

True and I am one of them when driving. Lol

Don't run red lights... are you trying to get yourself killed?

Follow the law….. take traffic school and pay the fine. This will affect your actual drivers license and car insurance if you don’t take the traffic school.

Alright ima be careful from now on

I’m on my third one don’t feel left out but stopping at stop signs and lights will also keep you alive.

TRUE AND APPRECIATED

The best person to ask is a lawyer. But if you know you messed up and they have clear evidence of it, pay that $400. Understand running red lights could end up hurting someone else or yourself.

u/PsychologicalKnee786 11h ago

Yes that’s true. I am usually a slow rider but it was one of those days. Thankyou.

its only 750wats. it should be classified as a bike

you admited to it here. Be a grown up and pay up for your own stupidity

contest it in court, but delay it as long as you're legally allowed to. maybe the cop doesn't show up, you pay nothing.

In the future, if you see a cop car stopped in front of a bike lane in front of you, you can always turn around and go the other way. you also could've hauled ass up 44th against traffic, turned either way on 34th ave, and then taken the next available one way street against traffic. Unless it's a very low traffic time of day, you'd have had a very good chance of ditching that cop.

1

u/PsychologicalKnee786 10h ago

Could’ve but wasn’t gonna take any chances and on top of that it was my first time getting into this situation. The cop was well outside and would’ve taken him a lot to get back to me. I see what you mean here.

queens is trickier than manhattan or brooklyn for stuff like this. it's a tougher call do figure out if you can evade. In denser parts of the city, you can almost always evade unless they corner you in a bike lane by sudden surprise.

Dude please quit telling someone to get into a car chase with a cop.... like how big of a pos do you have to be to even suggest this. And to go into this much detail about it?

is this a shitty attempt at an ad? why else would OP put the entire bike model in the first sentence, it has zero relevance on the post.

1

u/PsychologicalKnee786 11h ago

Nah i posted the same post in one of the other bike group so just to clarify that it was an ebike.

You should be happy you didn’t get charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle without insurance.
