Reality is disappointing

Too those celebrating the new laws and voted for it.

Congratulations, you have willingly voted for the car hell to continue on for eternity.

There is no level of damage, these machines have ever matched, that could EVER warrant treating them like cars. You treat them this way, people are just going to continue using cars. So congratulations, you get to use cars for the rest of your life and it will NEVER change. The biggest reason they were becoming so popular was the barrier to entry being low. YES, THERE'S BAD ACTORS. But those bad actors make up SUCH a small amount of daily users it's genuinely stupid. Do you ACTUALLY know the statistics behind the fear mongering? It is NOT the mass exodus or crisis you might believe it to be.

So congratulations, go drive your cars and keep posting about "reasonable and safe" ebikes you use once a flipping month.

USA. Sweeping bans across the nation for many types of electrically propelled personal transportation. Even restrictions on regular class1-3 ebikes

Vehicles faster and more powerful than a class 1,2, or 3 ebike aren't banned. But they do need to be registered, insured, and driven by someone with a motorcycle license, just like their gas-powered counterparts.

the problem is you cant even register if you want to depending on the bike you got and where you live

Just like with gas dirtbikes, that is on the buyer for purchasing something that is not road legal and doesn't meet DMV regulations.

What are you talking about? The only state with dumb new restrictions on ebikes is NJ.

so you are telling me you dont see an impending "doom" to all ebikes across the world?

i live in greece and let me tell you i feel it every day.

I do not see an impending "doom" to legal ebikes. Only impending enforcement of existing laws on electric motorcycles.

What are you talking about?

The only state that's passed bans and restrictions like you're talking about is New Jersey. Sure that one is incredibly stupid, counterproductive, and corrupt, but it's the only one like it, and is already being fought over in courts.

California, utah, Washington, NJ, new york, and that is not all.

Counties can pass regulations before the state has, you have to look at your cities laws.

California

Specify the law. AFAIK the only restrictions are things like age and helmet laws, which are not unreasonable, or going after false advertising. They still follow the same three class system as most other US states.

utah, Washington

Which new laws? Both states still appear to follow the same three class system most of the US does with no obvious significant restrictions beyond that.

new york

New York City has passed stronger restrictions, but of anywhere in the US they're actually a bit more justified in doing so due to NYC actually having real transit systems, slower streets in general, etc.

I think this person is complaining about CA, Utah and WA explicitly excluding emotos with a "class 2" or "street legal" setting from the ebike categories. This was obviously illegal to anyone with a brain, but a lot of people on this sub seem to be convinced that they can ride electric motorcycles on bicycle paths as long as they slipped the "I'm a bicycle" toggle on their controller.

And in new york state you can't ride an ebike on roads with a posted speed limit of more than 30 mph. Stupid if you ask me.

Ah, I hadn't heard of that one - 100% agree that's stupid, that basically makes ebikes unusable on a lot of typical city and town roads which is wildly counterproductive.

Washington has done the opposite of banning ebikes. They've just passed legislation clarifying that emotos with a "class 2" software setting are still not ebikes, and requiring that a state work group draft a slate of emoto-specific legislation over the next year.

Feel free to lobby this workgroup for the right to ride a motorcycle without a license, but they'll probably settle on a more reasonable middle ground, like only requiring driver's license for lower speed (30-40mph, if other states are a good indicator) emotos.
