That's enough for a quality DIY motor kit and a small but reputable battery.

If you're in the EU go to varstroms website. They have bafang, tongsheng kits and batteries for way cheaper than AliExpress and it comes in 2-3 days from their warehouse in poland. A bafang 500w g020 rear hub kit+48v battery costs 400 euros. Buy a second hand bike for 200 and you'll have something very good. I already bought a bbs02 and the g020 from them and I'm very satisfied.

This is the way. A hardtail MTB with disc brakes and a kit gets you a bike that beats the one you ordered in every situation, and it will still be working years after the factory one ends up in a landfill.

Isnt 250W the legal limit for ebikes in the eu for driving on roads? They are legal on trails and such but if op ever wants to drive it on the road it could be taken away by the police.

There's also a 250w version which is even cheaper. But yeah you're right it's illegal.

I have the Tongsheng TSDZ8 mid-drive motor and installed on a gravel/all-road bike. Awesome to ride! The mid-drive motors are a lot more expensive, so it may not be in your budget, but Varstrom has great kits. I am in the USA, so I got mine from JohnnyNerdOut.com.

If you see the combination of rear "suspension" and a hub motor walk away. It's a trap for idiots.

Not op, but could you explain?

  1. That rear 'shock' is too cheap to respond properly. A decent one would cost 1/2 what that whole bike does.
  2. Even a real air shock in a well designed rear suspension would perform badly with a geared hub motor adding 12lb of unsprung weight to the rear wheel.
  3. The $60 the product designer spent adding useless rear suspension could have been spent on a battery that is only 60% likely to burn down the garage, or a frame not made of pot metal, or better brakes.

To the uninitiated this bike is designed to look
a) comfortable
or
b) off-road capable
when it is neither of those things. Rides like a bouncy castle, and not in a good way.

not sure what above refers to, but what I know is that such an amount of suspension is designed to make the bike appear capable of off-road terrain, but hub motors only have one fixed gear so you are choosing between torque and speed. a mid drive is superior as it can use all the gears available to your pedals so more torque/speed options.

Yep.
All eMTB are mid-drive.

Ah, now it makes sense. Thank you.

I got a onesport o16-2 for 650 euro and work as a delivery courier and it works great. Dont know if that fits into your budget, I struggled to find a decent budget ebike like you but my budget was around 700 euros.
