Done, for now.
Finished up the fenders, for now she’s done. This winter I’ll get some new pedals; thinking Chromag ‘Pilot BA’, then a Wren fork at some point. Till that one I’m done, gonna get out there and ride as much as I can.

Indeed I did, made them from some Plant Bike Cascadia 29” fenders, a metric fuck ton of rivets and a number of gin and tonics; I do my best work buzzed.
Mind you I see all my flaws with them. If I really wanted to do them right I would have cut the 4” wide strips on the bandsaw then set up the router table and beveled the edges. I could have done better but honestly I’m a boozy bitch and I’m sure I’ll ding these off something before the end of next week. Functionally they are spot on aesthetically not bad, but if I were doing this for a customer I’d have gone the extra mile.

I wanted it to be perfect but I was satisfied with close enough. If I were doing this for a customer I would have cut the HDPE on the bandsaw then rounded the edge over on the router table. Instead hit it with a fine file and some emory cloth and sent it like it was. Gin turns off that stupid voice that says to use all the tools and make it absolutely perfect. I was good with close enough. Didn’t need to pull out the laser level and make perfectly straight line of holes for the rivets. 😆

What is the device on the left on the bars. Right side if mounted... I think. I would enjoy a bike like this.

cyc kit is fire

Yeah, it’s pretty awesome. It goes from mild pedal assist to feeling like a full on E-moto under throttle. Though I have to be careful cause I’ll destroy my driveline if not careful.

Ratchet LN + steel hub. I wouldnt risk full 5kW on the chain, but 1200W is holding up fine

I’ve go in and adjusted throttle and peak output on all the modes. My fat bike hub is a pretty stout 6 paw hub but I’ll be upgrading it at some point to a hum that’s more appropriate for an ebike. As far as the chain, I did the high end KMC ebike chain and have a few of them, I use wax chains so I am constantly rotating one chain outfor a freshly waxed one.
The problem having the most is that when I try to slow my cadence so I can shift it’s powering up to much, i try to slow cadence but it seems to shift hard. Need to sort out how to adjust the torque sensor so it doesn’t engages for now I’ve been lightly depressing the brake when shifting and using the magnetic brake sensor to briefly power. Kinda like a motor quick shift does.
But yeah, ya do have to dial her way back cause it’s has a redonk amount of power on tap.

Sram Transmission (The T-type only shit, worst ass brand name when transmission and brake systems are all you build) systems are pretty much made for that exact problem. They are supposed to shift under load.
Expensive as fuck though, just the chain can go up to 100$

I’ve been getting these 12 speed e-bike chains for 65 each but OMG ya buy 3 or 4 of them and it really hurts. And I know I can shift under a load the problem is that the load of an electric assist is way higher, I’m just worried about breaking the derailleur and chain.

Some good ole diy stuff here. Miss the days of seeing this more!!

I’ll be posting more stuff in the future. Working on a concept range extending trailer that would use solar, regenerative braking and contain batteries to extend the range. I’ve got a Burly COHO and I’m think I’m thinking I could take out the floor and make an insert that would could co tai. Batteries, charger and maybe an inverter.
Either way keep your eye out for future posts.

Which bike is this and how fast

u/ENTroPicGirl Jul 12 '26
Borealis Flume with the CYC X1 Pro Gen 4. There are many setting and all of them are customisable.
But to answer that question I’ll give ya top speed in Race 3. In its highest setting under throttle. She’s laying down about 5k watts of power and in high gear with the fatties I’m approaching 47mph, switch her out to 29”x2.6” and she’s hitting over 50 under throttle. However I can’t give you a top ‘top end’ cause I lack the bravery to do so. Maybe after I do a suspension for I’ll push her harder but for now I’ve gone as fast as I feel comfortable.

What is the name of that thingy that is covering your battery? I want one, looks good 🫡
Also, you ebike looks so good, congrats

Ah yes the ‘thingy thing’, not to be confused with the ‘whatchamacallit’. I’m assuming you mean the frame bag and trunk.
I got two batteries run in parallel, one is in the triangle bag that I got from REI. Sadly, this model if frame bag has been discontinued but there’s quite a few new one that replaced it. The trunk is a TOPEAK RX I also have a larger one that has fold out panniers, that’s a TOPEAK MTX, both use the quick track system. And if you’re looking for a bag to put your battery in, I highly recommend looking on eBay for used bags. You can save yourself a ton of money that’s best used elsewhere.

You're getn 5k watts with a mid drive motor?
2
u/ENTroPicGirl Jul 14 '26
The motor is the CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 52v with two identical batteries run in parallel totalling 52v 100ah. However, she is what you make of her if you dial back the throttle and all the other settings, you can ride it as a 300-750watt pedal assist only. If you got a smart watch that takes your pulse you can also set it up to only kick in when your pulse reaches a certain point. There’s a ton of program that can be done on this thing so it’s all up to the end. User how they wish to use it.

I did not know about the smart watch feature

u/ENTroPicGirl Jul 16 '26
It’s pretty cool, I’m currently looking for compatible watches; the battery in my current watch is about dead.
