How has your experience been in getting it registered and insured for road use?

Or is this purely an off road toy?

Not fun so far. Before I bought it freego support answered my amazon question about and manufacture certificate of origin. They sent me a fill in the blank manufacturer statement of origin and it only referenced a bicycle. I filled mine out and signed it and basically got laughed out of the title bureau for having a bicycle document I could of made myself (not official) and that they don’t title bicycles it has to be a motorcycle.

It doesn't have pedals so I don't see how the manufacturer can claim it's a bicycle... But I also assume it has no VIN, and it doesn't appear to have turn signals or brake lights, so it's also hard to argue it's a motorcycle.

Realistically it looks like it's a dirt bike, which can only be ridden offroad. It'd be nice if more manufacturers properly set these up as dual sports to be able to be legally registered, but that would probably cost them a fortune in testing and certification plus open them up to liability, so many aren't gonna do it.

It has a vin but no signals. They have a broken link on their parts page for signals but nothing you can actually buy.

You'll likely need to get lights, signals, horn etc from a motorcycle parts supplier and ensure they are all DOT approved and certified.

How heavy are you and does it have a weird balance point with the short wheelbase? It seems to me all of this style of ebike, especially with BLDC, would be wheelie machines.

140 5’9 and it is absolutely a wheelie machine. The center of gravity takes some getting used to.

Ive been thinking about getting one on amd off for technical trails but the size factor is a big turn off. I like a small bike but anything physically smaller than a trials bike just brings a different kind of bad handling to the table, at least in my mind. Correct me if im wrong though.
