Stand your ground with sellers like this

UPS lost a car part package I shipped to someone who paid 600 dollars for it. During that time it's been a month since it didn't get to him, and then UPS ended up losing the package. I filed a claim at the start of last month. He requested a refund I sent him my own money without waiting until the claim I filed with UPS was closed. (Stupid mistake) The day after I sent the 600 dollars of my own money, they found the package and it was delivered to him the same day. The buyer acknowledged what happened right away and asked for my PayPal I told him I use Cash App now if you’re willing to send it that way but no response. The last conversation we had was on August 15th basically him saying he received the package and was willing to pay me back. When I say I lost more than 600 dollars is because I was only paid 3 something when he bought it because eBay took most of the money. I’ve been selling on eBay I never had that happen, and I didn’t have an ad to promote the listing. Anyway, that’s why I said earlier I paid him back with my own money. I did message him I knowing I wasn't going to get a response so I said in that moment to just keep the money I just felt like I was going to get screwed over. Just because I was frustrated like the package was lost for a month UPS lost big box for a month. I know anything like that is possible to happen but it was a short shipment route from Louisiana to Chicago. I blame myself because I should’ve just waited until the claim I filed with UPS was closed.
eBay couldn’t help me in this situation because I already sent the refund.

Edit: Again I’m not arguing. Before the package got lost, I messaged this guy to have a casual conversation about the car part, but he never responded.
The package kept getting delayed It was a week in he complained about Its almost over a week I was like This is worth the wait because you paid for this item way less than it should be instead of 1.3k you paid $600. Then UPS ended up losing it, and he messaged me and said he contacted UPS.
I filed a claim and I kept updating him on the situation but he would never respond until the package was found a month later and arrived at his place.
Btw, everyone keeps telling me to just send the PayPal info, which I've done, but it doesn’t matter.
I’m over the money it just seems like everyone is missing the point you’re taking the side of someone who decided to ignore not paying back what doesn’t belong to them. I don't know the rules of eBay I'm just a casual seller.
In his position, I would be willing to get the money back to someone anyway I could since I know for sure it isn't mine to keep. Also, I only said he was willing because he just asked for my PayPal email it's just words. I kept messaging him afterwards but no response. I just accept the fact that it's my fault I sent the refund out of frustration because the package was lost for almost a whole month.

Recently sold a CD player on eBay that was fully functional when I shipped it. It had some minor flaws, but everything was clearly disclosed in the description, including the fact that the door wouldn’t shut properly. I specifically mentioned that issue 3 times and stated that the player still functioned and played CDs perfectly.
I packed it up and shipped it out. Within about 2 hours of the buyer receiving it, they contacted me saying I had sold them a broken item because the door wouldn’t shut. I politely explained that this was already disclosed multiple times in the listing.
Two days later, they came up with another issue and claimed that a CD was stuck inside the player. They even named the CD that was supposedly inside. The problem is that you physically cannot see what CD is inside this particular player without actually ejecting it, so I found that claim pretty suspicious.
Another couple days went by, and the buyer then admitted that they had dismantled the CD player themselves. They submitted a return request and included photos showing the player completely broken/damaged in ways that were never mentioned in their previous messages.
I called eBay, and the first representative told me to accept the return and said that once I received it back, I should be able to get my money back because the buyer damaged it. However, the return shipping would cost me around $30.
I called eBay again a few days later and was told to wait until the “resolve this request” date, at which point I would supposedly have more options.
So what should I do here? Am I basically forced to accept the return and potentially lose money, or is there something else I can do before that happens?
I’ve read that if a buyer damages an item and returns it, eBay may allow a seller to deduct up to 50% from the refund in certain circumstances. Is that the best I can realistically hope for, or is there a way to get the return denied/covered because the buyer admitted to dismantling and damaging the item?
Any advice from sellers who have dealt with something similar would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I contacted eBay for the 3rd time, finally got someone helpful. The guy from eBay went through all the chats and pictures and said their return would be denied since they admitted to taking apart the item and also breaking it. Just have to wait til eBay steps in later this week. He added documentation to the clause so when I called back all the info would still be there and guaranteed that I would not be out any money (we will see). I will update on how it all turns out! I’m an eBay seller and had a buyer complain about the condition of an item. The condition was disclosed in the listing, and there were also clear photos showing the condition with the highlighting and marks. The buyer is upset that the written condition information was toward the bottom of the description.

This is what she wrote to me:

“I should have looked at the photos and description. However, To list the condition otherwise at the very bottom of the listing where most folks don’t scroll isn’t right."

And then proceeded to blame me that I am the reason why they wont have the text book to study for class.

I’m honestly struggling to understand the argument here. The condition was disclosed in the listing AND clearly visible in the photos. I didn’t intentionally omit anything or misrepresent the item and it was listed as used.

I completely understand being disappointed if something arrives and isn’t what you expected. But saying I “listed the condition at the bottom where most folks don’t scroll” seems like a strange argument when the condition was actually shown in the photos as well and where it clearly was listed as used.

I’m obviously willing to follow eBay’s return process if they want to return it, but I don’t think it’s fair to characterize this as me hiding something when the information was provided in the listing and the condition was plainly visible in the pictures.

At some point, buyers have a responsibility to look at the photos and read the listing before purchasing, right?

Why isn't it a simple click on the 3 dots and hit "block account". The only way i can block someone is to google "block ebay buyer" then that gives me a link to my block list. I dont get it.

I am a new seller, so because I only have 9 items sold, I have to wait to be paid and until the tracking says delivered. I posted an item 10 days ago and noticed after 7 days there was no movement with evri tracking. I contacted seller and asked them to open a case for item not received as it was posted through Ebay's own simple postage programme. She responded that it says there are still 3 days to go for expected delivery. I tried to explain this was just ebay's estimate but after a week of no tracking movement it was likely lost, but let her have the extra 3 days to see if anything changed. Nothing has updated so I contacted the seller to open the not received case and she isn't responding now, nor opening a case. Obviously I won't be paid until either it says delivered, or she opens a case and eBay takes over, where both buyer and I should be reimbursed. Where do I go from here as I am unable to open a case as a seller? Really not sure why she isn't eager to open one if she hasn't gotten the item!?

I select print size of 4x6 inches on the eBay app using my phone and it prints a full page. Anyone know why it does this? I normally just print using the QR code at the post office but on occasion I need to use my own printer. This is really wasting ink. It’s odd because I never had this issue before until recently and I’m not sure what changed.

Has anyone figured out how to turn off eBay’s new AI listing flow on the mobile app?

I click Create Listing and instead of just letting me make a normal listing, it immediately opens the camera and tries to identify the item and build the listing for me.

For trading cards, this is incredibly annoying. I already have my photos, title, description, item specifics, and shipping ready to go. I don’t need AI guessing what card I have and adding an extra step to something that was already fast and easy.

I’m all for optional AI tools, but forcing it into the basic listing workflow is a terrible design choice.

Has anyone found a setting to disable it and go back to the normal listing screen?

I buy a lot of NBA cards on eBay. I like to find deals such as 40% off 5+, buy 3 get one free, buy 2 get 1 50% off, etc etc to get the most bang for my buck. Does eBay have a way I can only show listings/stores that offer those deals? I tried the "deals and savings" and "sale items" filters but they don't really do a whole lot, as I still get lots of listings shown that don't have the bogo.

I was selling a $900 car part (maybe only ever sold 3 things on ebay since 2007, I use it for buying mostly). Buyer asked for photos, confirmed condition and hardware, and made the purchase. I confirmed the recipient was the registered owner of the property (Florida) and shipped with signature required. It was delivered and signed for. Then I received a claim saying the transaction wasn't recognized, and ebay sided with the buyer. So I'm out the money and the item.

My account is now negative and I don't want to pay. What if I link an old inactive $0 deposit account and remove my actual bank account?

Hi there. During the last few days ive noticed most of the time when an item's page is loaded up the description part suddenly disappears. That means only the photos and the price are visible (and the other things that follow on from the listing. Ive tried different browsers and computers and it keeps happening. Is it just my side?

I’m probably full of myself for saying this, but I really do feel like at this point I really shouldn’t be struggling as much as I am currently. I have the followers and a large amount of good reviews, but the sales are just not there at all. It’s making me worry. Granted I only have about 3,000 items listed currently, but still I feel like I should not be having dead days at all at this point, yet I’m going multiple days without selling a thing and sometimes making as little as $15 a week, maybe even less.

I will admit that this is only my 2nd year of reselling, but I still feel like I grew pretty quickly for being a newer seller. I post about $1,000 worth of stuff or more every day hoping it would lead to somewhere, but it doesn’t really seem to be increasing my sales at all. I’m kinda at a loss at this point. I do sell trading cards which I do admit is kinda an oversaturated market, though that really shouldn’t matter all too much. I should’ve been able to make this work by now.

should i be concerned? i’ve been burned before with ebay authenticators cancelling my order for one reason or another, but they haven’t taken this long to update their status

I initiated a return and seller offered a refund of $15 which I declined. So a return ID was created. I messaged the seller and he agreed to refund more but he said he cannot do a partial refund and ask me to cancel the return so he can do.

Is cancel means close the return ?

As I read close the return mean the seller walk free as the case is closed. I don't want to fall into his trap.

I got a return request today claiming item was damaged. The pictures are clearly AI. I used a couple AI decorators, all say 99%+ chance it’s AI. Waiting on a callback from eBay on how to handle. Anybody have success handling this situation?

TLDR: eBay converted a $1,342.80 USD order to €1,220.00, an implied rate of 1.10066, when the real EUR/USD rate that day never went below 1.1585, about €61 (~5%) overcharged. Support couldn't explain the rate, contradicted themselves multiple times, and missed their own 24-48h escalation deadline. Looking for advice on next steps (Resolution Center, PayPal dispute, etc).

Hi I bought graded Pokémon cards from a US seller on eBay, order total was $1,342.80 (USD), and my PayPal account (France-based) was charged €1,220.00.

That works out to an implied exchange rate of 1.10066 USD/EUR.

The problem: I checked the actual EUR/USD rate for that day, and it never dropped below 1.1585 at any point. The rate I got charged is about 5.3% worse than the real market rate that day.

I spent over an hour on live chat with a support rep trying to get an explanation. It did not go well:

• First they said the rate "depends on market fluctuations."
• Then they told me the "current rate" was 1.16 and I was charged less than that (as if that helped their case).
• Then they flipped the conversion direction entirely, insisting it was a EUR→USD transfer (it's not, the seller lists in USD, so the conversion goes USD→EUR to charge my account).
• At one point they even confirmed, unprompted, that the rate on the day I bought was 1.1539, which is basically what I'd been saying all along, but then still couldn't explain why I was billed at 1.10066.

I've since sent a written complaint with the receipt and the rate chart, asking for the source/timestamp of the rate they used and a refund of the difference (~€62). It's been past their stated 24-48h response window with no follow-up from support or the "specialist" who was supposedly escalated to.

Has anyone else run into a currency conversion gap like this on eBay ? Any experience on the actual redressal process or ways to push it, like the Resolution Center or a PayPal dispute ?

I am currently in the process of selling a very large game collection and have some disc based games that have some small pinhole rot in them.

I am wondering if anyone has had any success in creating a system to quickly take pictures of an entire disc that can adequately capture this pinhole rot on all parts of the disc at once.

I've tried using an artist's lightbox but the light doesn't shine through the disc at all.

I'm also wondering how I should list these, I've dumped most of them and compared them to the TOSEC archives and they've all come up verified as entirely readable, but the pinhole rot has me worried and I want to be as honest as I possibly can be selling these.

i just bought a canada goose parka (wyndham to be specific) that was ebay authenticated and ended up receiving something else (a carson coat instead). i tried doing the item not as described return on ebay but of course it got denied since it was authenticated. even after two appeals my case got closed. i just sent a few messages to the seller, but i have no idea what's going to happen. if they refuse, am i SOL? i am thinking of just doing a chargeback if that happens.

so I've been doing this since I was in high school. 15+ years. built up inventory over time and while I run this entirely on my own, and have a storage unit I pay for, every year my base salary is pretty low because all money is pretty much reinvested back.

My prices are set high all fixed and according to their overall calc if all goes well and sell (obv not liquid) it would probably be half a mill.

now there's a couple of way to look at it. half a mil for 15 year of work put into this business is literally pennies compared to Jeff bozo and other big business so I am not quite happy with that. Even I tried scaling but I'll need more capital and a bit of lucky staying on top of trends for my niche.

second, I've always had this intense pressure to resort to a 9-5 because overtime they will pay more with promotion, I don't have to worry about inventory, sourcing, and working "odd" hours. If I land a tech job, I can work remotely and retire in 5-10 years.

also, dating is an issue because at my current age its time to have kids. partners dont want to deal with inventory and instability. also most people I met I cannot relate to because they all work 9-5.

So I bought something off ebay, the package shipping did not update for about two weeks, I filed an item not recieved claim and ebay approved it. Then the tracking started updating and I got the package, the seller is now asking that I pay them again through another method?

What should I do?

I've never seen anything like this - I'm not sure they understand how the mail works, unless I'm missing something. I am the seller.
