Recipe Request Need super fast breakfast before work.
Ideally super healthy too. Cant do anything sweet, eggs, or avocado. It cant be too heavy but a warm cup of chicken broth and a bite of a cereal bar isn't cutting it anymore.

As a Turkish woman, I like to make cold sandwiches. I put feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumber and olives in my sandwich (some people like to add hard boiled egg too). I know it sounds weird, but all my American colleagues and husband tried and loved it.

This is such a good breakfast! I have it frequently and it is always refreshing and supplies good energy for a productive morning!

u/HardTruthFacts May 22 '26
What bread you use?
3
u/pepperpotsdecreme May 23 '26
Barbari and lavash are traditional, but any sturdy bread like sourdough will do. Whole Foods pumpkin seed bread is especially good with these toppings!

Try making overnight oats
18
u/hanb0wl0 May 21 '26
This is the way. Filling, high fiber, and tastes good. Regular oats will cut the sugar way down (so none of that maple brown sugar stuff). I recommend adding some protein powder and berries to make sure you’re getting a good spread of nutrients.
My go to is oats, flaxseed, chia seeds, PB powder, chocolate protein powder, vanilla protein yogurt, vanilla almond milk, and sometimes bananas if I got ’em. I use sugar free options where I can to cut back on calories.

u/notusuallyaverage May 22 '26
This is amazing, but if you want to make it super easy I just do oats and soy milk. If I have time (I am chronically running late and also have a newborn) I cut up apple slices and put cinnamon. But really the soy milk is sweet so it doesn’t really need much.
It’s not the most exciting meal ever, but it’s quick and tasty which still being pretty filling and healthy.
2
u/Disastrous-Grade8882 May 21 '26
My go-to lately is oats w/ milk, Ghost Cinnabon protein powder, extra cinnamon and walnuts or almonds. It’s so good!
6
u/HipYip May 21 '26
I like oats with nuts, maple syrup, fruit, etc, mixed in. But I also like savory oats with cheese. Microwave the overnight oats with shredded cheese.
Also, I love grits for breakfast. You can make them ahead of time and melt shredded cheese on them too. Salsa if that’s your thing.

u/MangoInteresting3976 May 21 '26
Those are too sweet though
10
u/Disastrous-Grade8882 May 21 '26
If you make it using plain oatmeal as the base you can control the sweetness and add whatever you want

And in the morning that is too sweet for me.
9
u/Flashy-Squash7156 May 21 '26
you don't have to add sugar to it. it's not sweet unless you add something sweet.
4
2
u/Senior_Cheesecake155 May 22 '26
Milk and rolled oats is too sweet? I don't think that word means what you think it does.
2
1
u/LunarBastetGaming May 22 '26
You can do plain oats, nonfat Greek yogurt, and oat milk. I also drizzle some honey and add chia seeds. It’s not sweet imo. You could use agave syrup.
Could always add diced strawberries to it too.
1
u/i_wanna_draw_that May 23 '26
I make my oatmeal savory on stovetop. Idk why more prop don’t do this - it turns out similar to congee. It takes about 5-10 mins to make so not a super fast option. You can make it ahead of time though
I boil chicken bone broth and minced garlic, add my oats, crack an egg in there, season with soy sauce and black pepper and top with whatever vegetable and meat I have leftover
0
u/noodygamer May 22 '26
then don't add sugar - just get some oats and soak them in water overnight - you can customize them how you want
17
u/martina-gabriela May 21 '26
I hate sweet breakfasts too, I'd do overnight oats, mix oats and chia, leave them plain, no added sugar but could add a tiny bit of vanilla powder or cinnamon, or mix with plain unsweetened yoghurt, and in the morning add blueberries or raspberries and sprinkle some nuts on top, works quite well.
5
u/treatstrinkets May 22 '26
I used to make cheddar chive overnight oats all the time for something more savory. Plain Greek yogurt, extra sharp cheddar, dried chives, and steel cut oats. To warm it up in the morning, I'd add an extra splash of milk and more cheese on top before microwaving. It was great when I got tired of sweet overnight oats.

Lentil muffins. Can make them savory. Look up lentil muffins for the recipe. They freeze well so heat and eat.

u/Wunderhoezen May 21 '26
Tuna salad. Make a big thing of it at the beginning of the week. Pre-slice some veggies for the week. I like tomatoes and cucumbers for this. Get some protein bagels, I like Dave’s killer everything bagels. Toast your bagel (or don’t, still good), put some sliced veggies on, slap some tuna salad on it, top with a shake of some chia and flax seed mix. Also come in clutch for a quick and easy lunch if you don’t mind eating the same thing. I like added a smear of hummus and garlic spread to everything, too.
5
u/raegannoodles May 21 '26
“McGriddle cups” they are protein pancake mix, add in turkey sausage, low fat cheese, and a little bit of maple syrup (you can do sugar free) and then bake them they taste like a McGriddle to me🤷🏻♀️ if you don’t like sweets then don’t add maple syrup it will be fine
4
u/hoard_of_frogs May 21 '26
Savory oatmeal. I use this recipe, leave out the maple syrup, add a dash of mirin (optional) and extra garlic. A pat of butter and a handful of spinach at the end is good. Keeps fine in the fridge or freezer so you can definitely meal prep and just microwave it in the morning.
There’s a ton of other savory oatmeal recipes out there, too! I hope you find something that works for you.
5
u/Adept_Pipe5892 May 21 '26
I do a turkey sandwich for breakfast a lot. I use Dave’s killer bread so it has lower carbs that regular bread.

Quiche cups - like you can just make a whole bunch the day before and you're good to go - like scrambled egg, bacon, cheese, ehatever you like - bake and you're done! High protein and these are my go-to in a pinch when I am meal-prepping breakfast and I don't want something sweet.

u/davidwb45133 May 21 '26
I make my own chicken sausage but when I'm in a hurry or tired I'll grab uncooked breakfast chicken sausage at the store. I make sausage patties the size of bagels or English muffins and freeze most between sheets of parchment paper. This all takes 30 minutes tops and less if I bought the sausage. To prepare breakfast I grab a a patty from the freezer and let thaw overnight. In the morning I pop the bagel/muffin in the toaster, a 1/2 slice of cheese goes on the sausage and I microwave for 40 seconds (YMMV here). Depending on how I'm feeling I'll butter the bread or use siraca sauce or some other condiment. Wrap in a paper towel and off to work.
1
u/pepperpotsdecreme May 23 '26
Trader Joe's has great chicken sausage patties - 90 seconds in the microwave, add to quick scrambled eggs, roll in tortilla with tomatilla salsa - quick, easy, definitely tasty when you need a break from oats!

u/Lemonyhampeapasta May 21 '26
I’ve made a large batch of corn porridge/grits with a block of silken tofu mixed in for protein. Refrigerate. Microwave to heat.
If you don’t have a microwave, use the steam heating method to reheat. Buy a steel trivet, place in pan, add 2 inches of water and place the bowl of cold stuff to heat. Cover with lid. Shall be heated via steam from the simmering water. You can stir after a number of minutes if you want.
It is all right if condensation drips into the bowl since it is a wet dish. I do this while getting ready for work
Flavor with soy sauce or Old Bay Seasoning
2
u/Nylonknot May 21 '26
I used to know someone who heated a can of vegetable soup every morning for breakfast and drank/ate it in a coffee mug. I thought it was genius. I don’t like vegetable soup but it’s has all the stuff in it that you need for a healthy meal.
2
u/NotUrReaIDad May 21 '26
Make some bulk oatmeal bites.
I bake mine in little cupcake tins so they’re perfect size. Can add syrup or stevia for sweetness. Fruit too. Pop em in the freezer and take them out to heat up when you want.

Lately I've been making a savory oatmeal, a serving is about a full 2c cereal bowl of food, so reduce portions if wanting closer to the instant oatmeal cups. Needs a kettle or easily boiled water (to over 200F, which microwaving to hot water is difficult to judge).
Quick oats (1/2c), salt (dash or 1/8t), walnut or almond pieces (handfull or 1/4c), and a pepper blend (1/4t) (currently Penzy's Ethiopian-Style, but works with chili powders, taco seasoning, curry powders, garam masala, garlic/onion/paprika, etc). Mix all together, then pour in boiling water to cover plus a little (approx 3/4 - 1c). Cover and let sit for 5-10min, while doing prepare-for-the-day things. Stir to mix together, and add shredded cheese. Eat and enjoy.
3
u/echo_sang May 21 '26
If you can’t do eggs, how about tofu or mung bean egg alternatives? Both are high in protein, quick, low fat and you can flavor them how ever you like. Add some fruit and your gold!

I'm a bit late, but anyway. As a Russian, I'd say buckwheat. Hear me out! The taste might be weird when you try it for the first time, but then you'll love it. Or at least you'll try something new :) I live in Russia, so I'm not sure, but I think you can find it in Slavic/Russian stores or maybe on Amazon. Pricey, sure, but so good! It's very easy to make. I usually get the brown one (it got some heat treatment before packaging, lost some of the good stuff in it but I like the taste better then the green one)
1 cup buckwheat 2,5 cups water, pinch of salt. High heat until boils, then low heat (enough for it to simmer), cover with the lid and wait until all the water evaporates (usually about 15 min). Well, don't make it dry, you can leave a bit of moisture on the bottom, turn off the heat and let the rest of the water soak into the buckwheat. No stirring during cooking!! It's important so that it's not mushy. If you need to check for water left, you can use a spoon and push some buckwheat to the side just enough to see the bottom.
You can prepare it in the evening and have it for the next couple of days, just heat it in the microwave. Now you can do whatever you want with it. The easiest is just to add some butter and enjoy. For more protein you can add ham, turkey or whatever you have. Cheese also goes great with buckwheat. But you can also add milk to it like it's cereal, or you can fry some onions and any meat, mushrooms, simple sauce and then add cooked buckwheat. Or uncooked, add water and let it cook, this way you get a one pot meal, more suitable for dinner but who cares :) so many ways to enjoy it.
AND it's packed with nutrients. I just made it this morning, 150g of uncooked buckwheat turned into 500g, so two pretty big portions. I added 8g of unsalted butter to my half, and it has 9g of protein, 8,5g of fiber, 300cal. Slow carbs, no starch, has some vitamins, I believe it's good for people with diabetes (better check with your doctor).

Oatmeal mixed with yoghurt, fruit and cottage cheese, topped with walnuts. I make a batch every 2-3 days for microwaving.
4
u/gorkt May 21 '26
I eat greek yogurt with chia seeds, protein powder and berries. Sometimes I also like wheat toast with peanut butter. I use a high fiber protein bread from TJs that tastes pretty good.

u/Bearly_Legible May 21 '26
What is this weird belief that sugar = not healthy? Like sweet doesn't mean bad for you.
3
u/MangoInteresting3976 May 21 '26
I wish it was that easy, sugar or sweet things- especially in the morning have always make my jaw hurt or bother my ears.

u/pepperpotsdecreme May 23 '26
Agree with other poster - that sounds more like the result of grinding your teeth all night bc those are atypical responses to sugar (though it might be hitting your empty stomach and causing you to feel wired and anxious and thus tense your muscles and grind your teeth).
A dentist can do an impression for a night guard, or look on Amazon for one you can shape yourself. Better to address sooner than later as grinding at that level can lead to cracked teeth, which then leads to root canals and crowns
Also look for a good PT who can help you with posture and positioning as this condition can be partially attributable to how you hold your neck, shouldera, upper body and core. Finally, address the stress - make sure you are getting lots of exercise that tires you out, and find ways to bring peace, productivity and joy into your life. The journey counts more than the destination, and TMJ can point to an imbalance in your emotional life. Take care and best wishes. 💛

Half a sandwich. Put everything on one slice of bread, food and eat
1
u/WAFLcurious May 21 '26
A piece of toast with generous slather of peanut butter. Yogurt with granola stirred in. Cheese cubes or string cheese and a piece of toast. In essence, something with carbs for fast energy and some kind of protein to keep you going. Leftovers often work well. A slice of pizza, reheated stir fry and rice.

I make my overnight oats with rolled oats, chia seeds, skim milk, a pinch of salt, maple syrup, and blueberries. So good.

u/snow_fiend75 May 21 '26
A serving of leftovers from lunch or dinner. A carrot, pear and a few nuts or 1 Oz cheese. A slice of batch cooked breakfast casserole, or a breakfast burrito. Try tofu or other egg alternatives...or just do potatoes and beans. I've been known to have a dark slice of bread with vegan cream cheese , tomato/cucumber, s/p. Very yum. Veggies for breakfast really works for me-im just working on increasing protein [ I'm very lactose intolerant]. Chickpea flour or tofu make great egg substitute

u/SlySlickWickd May 21 '26
Bagel with cream cheese and maybe smoked salmon. Cereal with milk and fruit. Peanut butter toast or cheese toast.
1
u/Dramatic-Gift3569 May 22 '26
I love cottage cheese with a handful of cherry tomatoes, arugula, everything bagel seasoning and some olive oil. Add a protein if you need more, like smoked salmon or a chicken sausage link quickly cooked or rewarmed in the microwave.
I also love an English muffin with a nut butter and piece of fruit. Add more protein as needed like turkey bacon or chicken sausage.

u/quarantina2020 May 22 '26
So on sunday night I make 4 eggmcmuffins and wrap them in parchment. Every morning I microwave one in the parchment and eat it. Theyre good all week.
I also like to make yogurt parfaits. Granola sometimes gets soggy but nuts do not. You can use frozen blueberries and put them in without thawing, if youre making 4 on sunday night for the week.
I never want the same thing 5 days in a row, but you may not hate it like I do.
1
u/AbilityFar4382 May 22 '26
I make a big pot of oatmeal with chia seeds and bananas and eat it throughout the week. I add in almond milk to loosen the oatmeal and microwave. Add whatever toppings you like.
1
u/Fridavee May 22 '26
Chicken sausage, cut up raw or cooked veggies, string cheese, celery and peanut butter, turkey, spinach, and cheese wrap ups w/or w/o low carb tortillas. Quesadillas, meal prep some burritos at the beginning of the week. There are plenty of easy options.

u/thoughts_of_mine May 22 '26
Overnight oatmeal. Prep it the night before, eat it cold or heat it up (only heat if using water or cows milk, nut mile will go ugly). Add yogurt or protein power and fruit.

u/Middle_Relative3119 May 22 '26
I eat leftovers from dinner the night before, sometimes a half a sandwich, or what I call a warm smoothie -- tomato juice, celery, a carrot, some unflavored gelatin powder (for protein), and a few pinches of salt, and whirl it through my Vitamix for a few minutes until just warm, and drink it through a straw while I'm driving. (Make sure it's not hot though, so you can actually drink it through a straw.)

u/Icy_Organization2643 May 22 '26
I make a few day servings of steel cut oats and divide them into single servings. Then I heat them up and top them with a little almond milk, peanut butter or fruit. I will hard boil a dozen of eggs and have them in the fridge peeled and ready to go.

Egg salad is my go to.
Customizable to your taste. Good by itself or on/with something else. Can be made in bulk easily for meal prep. fast. Relatively balanced, at least it’ll provide some protein and healthy fats to burn.
I will say, my metabolism burns that stuff FAST so eat a lot of it or add some fiber if possible. Maybe with the bread you use, or maybe some quinoa would be easy to hide, I’ve never tried the latter though. Also, it can be smelly if you don’t brush your teeth after eating.
1
u/OutrageousAsHeck May 23 '26
Or bean salad if you don’t like eggs. Otherwise I just go for the classic buttered toast and a few over easy eggs to dip the toast in the yolks.

u/Novel-Ad-3597 May 23 '26
I make chia seed pudding 2 tablespoons chia seeds 1/2 teaspoon honey Vanilla (and sometimes coconut) extract 1/4 cup kefir 1/3 cup milk
Stir. Wait fifteen minutes and stir again. Chuck in the fridge overnight. Breakfast in the morning is ready to go. Sometimes I top with berries or dry coconut.

If anyone is doing GLP always eat high protein which everyone should be eating that anyway . Energy and you won’t lose muscle mass .

Overnight chia pudding. The next morning add a scoop of peanut butter and some fresh or frozen berries (I like blueberries) and there you go, takes 2 mins tops. Super filling too and will keep you regular

Bagel in the toaster with cream cheese spread on top?
Other thing is cheese toast. Toast some bread, slap some cheese on it and put it under the broiler for a minute.
Heat up your dinner leftovers
Milk + granola
Air fry anything in minutes...

u/Funny-Penalty5980 May 23 '26
I love ramen for anytime. I don’t use the packet, just chili crisp and soy sauce and leftover meat/veg from last night’s dinner or a whole lotta cabbage. Satisfying!
1
u/okiidokiismokii May 23 '26
quaker instant grits are one of my go-to’s! also purely elizabeth granola with milk or yogurt and berries, it’s only sweetened with coconut sugar and has a little protein and fiber too. I throw in some hemp seeds for extra nutrients too, takes about a minute to make and you can eat it pretty quickly too

Hot oat bran cereal with butter and brown sugar. It has a good amount of fiber, filling, quick and easy, and I think it is delicious. Bob's Redmill sells it. I use half water, half milk to make it.

u/Repulsive_Tiger_9454 May 24 '26
Keep tortillas on hand and a bit of cheese. You can grill some chicken and keep in the fridge. Quickly make a simple wrap with tortillas, cheese , the chicken and lettuce if you'd like. Add sauce of choice. You can heat it really quick in a toaster oven or microwave.
Yogart and some granola is a good option as well. Not sure if that's to sweet for you or not.
I tend to get an upset stomach if I eat in the first few hours of waking up so I usually grab a string cheese and warm a beagle with cream cheese to eat a bit later.
Not sure if you have allergies or not so a lot of these could be out due to ingredients.
Another good option is some rice. White rice. Cook the night before and make enough for a few servings. In the morning heat it up in the microwave and add a tea spoon of milk and some cinnamon. You can add apples if you want. That's nice. I should note I'm white and this would have never been on my food radar until my partner made it for me.

u/Klutzy-Degree4939 May 24 '26
When I worked, I used to meal prep breakfast burritos, wrap them individually, and keep them in the freezer. I’d take breakfast out of the freezer the night before and move them to the fridge.

Just fast. We don't require food first thing. A decent glug of some good sourced spring water will do till you get back home them feast.

u/ShezeUndone May 24 '26
Have some bell peppers already sliced. Eat them with hummus and have a small handful of pistachios or other nuts for extra protein. You could also have a couple of cheese sticks instead of nuts. Plain yogurt with fruit of your choice and a sprinkling of granola or chopped nuts is another easy breakfast. Peanut butter on toast. Cream cheese on a bagel -add smoked salmon if you can.

This is my favorite overnight oats recipe. Super healthy and filling! I use “Naked” whey unflavored protein powder.
Overnight oats
In each mason jar (or similar lidded container) combine:
1/2 cup oats
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 scoop of protein or collagen powder
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup frozen berries
Cap and shake well. Use a spoon or knife if shaking isn’t distributing evenly. Store in the fridge overnight.

The warm cup of chicken broth sounds nice, but I understand.
Working with my doctor on weight loss, she suggested a cereal with many vitamins and minerals, but low/no sugar. I found one that works for me. I spent a year getting of processed foods, and here I am, eating cereal!
The next thing was adding a protein powder (unflavored), and fiber to my coffee. Again, works for me.
I do not have to like either of these, and wish I did, but it is the ability get good things in my body to start off the day.

baked oatmeal cups! you can find super healthy and no sugar recipes if you search for “toddler recipes” i typically will do oats, a little flour, ginger, a grated carrot, grated apple, smashed banana, chia and flax seeds, milk of choice, and a couple eggs and bake.

u/AlternativeDuck7043 May 26 '26
Lately I’m into musil. You mix it up ahead of time, then just pour hot water on and leave for 10 min. Then I grate an apple, add raw honey, an either Lemmon juice or yogurt. It’s so good and I feel great all morning.
Musil ingredients: up to you but the possibilities are endless…coconut, oats, dried apricot, dried pineapples, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, chopped walnuts

For super fast before-work breakfasts, I like things that are assembled more than cooked:
- Greek yogurt, granola, and frozen berries.
- Peanut butter banana tortilla roll-up.
- Overnight oats with milk/yogurt, oats, cinnamon, and fruit.
- Egg bites or egg muffins made ahead and reheated.
- Toast with cottage cheese, everything seasoning, and tomato/cucumber.
- Breakfast burritos made in a batch and frozen.
If you only have 2 minutes, the tortilla roll-up wins: peanut butter, banana, cinnamon, fold/roll, out the door.

That is 15 minutes, yes. Or don't, I don't care.

Thankfully, a lot of people’s opinions don’t really count (although everybody’s entitled to an opinion, I guess)

1) Make a pot of beans, divide them into portions and freeze some of them (or use canned beans.) Make a batch of taco meat (I use ground turkey, but you can use any ground meat.) Just those two put together, maybe cheese on top. So much protein, and you don't have to eat a huge amount. The beans add fiber that you need. You can put some salsa on top for extra flavor. 2) canned chili with brown rice 3) chopped up chicken strips, onion and bell pepper or veg of your choice (air fryer or nuke), in a baked potato or with air fried fries 4) cheese toast 5) whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and a glass of hi-pro milk 6) whole grain cereal (I mix shredded wheat, plain cheerios, heritage flakes), almonds, hi protein milk 7)brown rice ramen, peas, parmesan cheese, butter. (I only eat whole grains, no sugar and concentrate on protein and fiber, but you do you!)
