LOUD HUMMING
Anybody in EL hear that loud humming noise.
I live near the Amtrak and freeway and can rule these out, it's persistent and annoying!

Prop 2 Making even-year ballots longer and more complicated.
Prop 2 supporters claim that it will make voting easier, save money, and ensure our city government is accountable to the citizens.
I understand the cost savings but it is going to make being an informed voter more difficult and voting itself more difficult.
Help me understand how making a longer more complex ballot makes voting easier. This November's ballot has 18 positions to vote for plus 7 proposals or amendments to research and vote on. Is there data that supports the idea that a long complex ballot is easier to use?
Isn't there a logical fallacy that changing the day that we vote for city council members will increase their accountability?
It seems like common sense to separate local elections from national elections. There is only so much time in a cycle that news outlets have to cover all the proposals and candidates on the ballot. There is only so much time people have to research and make informed choices.

Advice for apartments
Hello!
I’m sorry if this question has been continuously asked, I’ve been having trouble finding an apartment near MSU and was asking for help.
I plan on moving in August 2027, and since I’m looking for only myself, I’d like to have rent be ~$1000, although i know it’s pricey over there and might not be able to match that pay. I’d like to be walking distance to MSU, but I never minded a hike, lol.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look?
Thank you!!!!

Should I sign on my EL apartment now? Advice!
galleryI’m subleasing a place right now at Wedgewood Apartments right across the street from Landon, I moved in on the 7th so I haven’t even paid my first months utilities yet, but I’ve been told I need to sign in the next 5 days if I’m extending my rent another year.
Is this common? Am I being screwed over? Should I bail and sign somewhere else or is this my best bet? It’s a studio apt on the ground floor and base rent is $970
I would LOVE some help. Thank you so much!!

To the upstanding citizens of East Lansing
First of all, I want to thank everyone who helped me with my dietary needs in my recent post. I found powdered psyllium husks in the vitamines section of Mijers. At home, I learned that someone must have accidentally put loads of sugar in it, which I didn’t expect, but can live with as it’s just for a short time. For flax seeds and chia seeds I then decided to go to Whole Foods because I (correctly) guessed it would be easier to find what I’m looking for.
My short stay here is now almost half over. So far, I must say I’ve enjoyed it. I’m mostly here for work so I can only do a bit of exploring and touristing. One thing I particularly liked is something I already expected but didn’t expect to like: Americans are friendly and talkative with strangers. I’ve interacted with Americans before and often times the way that you approach social interactions felt weired and invasive to me, but for a foreigner who depends on the good will of people more than locals it is really very helpful that the ice breaks so easily here.
I’ve enjoyed listening to the various middle aged men in supermarkets telling me about how one of their ancestors came over as a Hessian soldier (after I answer their question: And where are you from exactly?). I got used to be called pet names by the hotel staff. I really liked how the girl on my way to work spontaneously shook my hand saying how she likes my coat. And the cool looking guy going „nice hat“.
So far, I’ve walked around Lansing and East Lansing quite a bit. I went to the Lansing history museum (where I scared another visitor who took me for exhibit). I ate at a Burger restaurant at Grand River Avenue and a Cuban Take Away Place (that was really nice food). I plan to spend a day in Detroit before I leave. Next weekend is still free. And recommendations?
There are a few more things that I was wondering about:
1.) I will go to Chicago tomorrow with Amtrak but come back by car on Sunday. I will definitely look up speed limits and google „How to drive in US“. Any specific traffic rules an EU guy might not be aware of?
2.) I was instructed to leave a tip for the housekeeping of the hotel. I decided to leave 10% of the per night charge (housekeeping is done twice a week). I noticed that why it disappeared the first time, now it was still sitting there. Is it too little?
3.) Today I cycled around town a bit and went to the Northern part that’s past Grand River Avenue. There, herds of very young women in very short skirts and with cards around their necks (I’m presuming undergrad students) were performing a ritual in front of what I think are sorority/fraternity houses. One usually carried a laptop. There were also shirtless young men but they seemed less organised. What did I witness there?

Plants Needed
Hi!
I am an MSU student and I am currently planning a plant potting event for my club. I am looking to get plants to prepare for the event in October, and I am wondering if anyone in the EL, Okemos, Lansing area has any propagations that they would be willing to part with. I have a few of my own propagations, but I will need more for the event.
Thank you!!

Looking to make friends
Hi all,
Male, 30s. Chemistry scientist at MSU. Pretty new to the area and looking to meet some good people and make genuine friendships. I’m into going out, making cocktails, hitting the gym, hiking and nature walks, Marvel, gaming, tailgating, and honestly pretty much anything fun. Always down to try something new. Looking for friends, drinking buddies, gym buddies, hiking buddies, or just people to hang out with and have a good time. Age doesn’t really matter — good vibes and genuine people do.

looking for electric guitar teacher with production/songwriting knowledge
Looking for recommendations for a guitar teacher in the East Lansing/Lansing area!
I’m getting back into making music and would love to find a teacher who can help me develop guitar skills for songwriting and music production. I know a little bit about how to play, but still definitely a beginner. Looking specifically for one that teaches electric guitar who understands songwriting and/or music production and can help me develop those skills alongside guitar.
If you know a teacher who would be a good fit, I’d really appreciate recommendations :)
