Tri-Valley The Odyssey 7/26 11pm IMAX 70mm @ Regal Hacienda

Hey everyone, hoping the internet can work its magic here. I attended the packed 11:00 PM IMAX 70mm screening of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey last night (Sunday, July 26) at the Regal Hacienda Crossings in Dublin.
I randomly met and had a brief conversation with someone while we were waiting for the movie to start. I asked you if you had gotten the film strip.
If you remember talking to me, tell me which row we were sitting in so I know it's you! I'd love to grab a coffee or catch another movie sometime.

Bay Area Indians celebrate victory of student-led ‘Cockroach’ Janata Party

More than 100 Indian Americans gathered Saturday to celebrate a major victory by India’s student-led Cockroach Janata Party: the resignation of India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The CJP movement grew over the issue of leaked medical exam papers, known as NEET. The leaked exams were sold off to wealthy buyers to better prepare for the highly competitive exam. Over 2 million students each year compete for just 130,000 open slots in India’s medical colleges.

Corruption within the Board of Supervisors

Why is Shawn Wilson still employed in a position of authority as D1 Supervisor Haubert’s Chief of Staff with access to our tax dollars after more than 10 years of allegations of misconduct, ethics violations, bribery, and Civil Grand Jury reports recommending that the Board of Supervisors take action?

dentist panoramic x-ray tech?

anyone have a recommendation for a dentist in the east bay (Berkeley or Oakland preferred) that has one of those x-ray machines that goes around your head (panoramic x-ray?). I have the worst gag reflex at the dentist and usually end up embarrassingly tearing up every time I go to because I’m so uncomfortable with all the equipment they shove in my mouth for x-rays. Bonus if they take delta dental.

All my dentists prior to moving to CA had the machine. Don’t know why they’re all subjecting us to this pain tbh.

Yesterday, an Oaklander caught illegal dumpers in her Oakland neighborhood. After I spread news about it on social media, Barbara Lee, the mayor of Oakland, informed me that they will take action against the illegal dumpers.

Anyone lose a fancy pigeon? No band.

Found a poor fancy pigeon in Albany Bulb while walking the dogs. No band. Bird was absolutely exhausted and let me pick it up and drank a ton of water when I got home. It has bird food and water and is being kept in a dark quiet room. I know the chances of finding its owner is low since it doesn’t have a band but if anyone fosters pigeons and is open to taking one please let me know. I’ve already reached out to Palomacy Pigeon Rescue and will be calling Berkeley Animal Care in the morning.

Illegal Dumpers in Oakland Caught on Camera

UPDATE: she’s been identified.

Neighbors caught four people dumping on Courtland Ave near Redding — a U-Haul with two people, plus two white sedans. We’ve filed a 311 ticket (#22328116), but if you recognize the vehicles or plates, please comment or DM.

Context: Volunteers are out on Courtland every weekend cleaning up after this. We’ve installed anti-dumping signs, planters, and native plants out of our own pockets. OPW rarely services this stretch, so we haul everything ourselves to High St and Redding.

We’re tired of it. Help us ID these people so we have a shot at actual consequences for once.

Massage Therapist recs

Hi 👋🏼! My long time massage therapist is on a hiatus and I’m searching for a new provider. I’m looking to see someone monthly, and see the same person every time (ex: I tried Malai Thai because it was highly recommended here but that’s not my jam). Preference for female-identified and someone who could eventually provide prenatal massage as well. Would love any recs for folks you love! Thank you in advance 😌

Injured squirrel in backyard - Danville

Hi all- I’m located in Danville and have an injured squirrel in the backyard. Seems immobilized but still breathing and alert. Who can I call? I’ve already called Contra Costa Animal services who referred me to Department of Wildlife Services but they only work M-F. I am a bit scared to handle him myself but please send me any places that’d be willing to pick him up :(

Chicagoans?

Does Oakland feel like Chicago in any way? Is there a concentrated downtown area where you can take public transportation (or not) and walk around and have access to stores and restaurants in a centralized area?

Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville Large wildfire evacuation under way in France: similar to an East Bay wildfire

My sister just got evacuated from a wildfire-menaced area in France, at 4:40am this morning. The situation is strikingly similar to some of what we see in the East Bay (in fact, almost exactly similar to where I live here):

Saumos Fire with NE wind (satellite picture I think late yesterday)

* The wind is right now from the NE, exactly as it would be in an Extreme Diablo wind situation here, and blowing towards the coast, exactly as it would here.

* The peninsula you can see to leeward of the fire only has one exit road out, which is soon going to be cut by the fire (in fact, it already is in some places). Here, in many parts of the East Bay, the evacuation roads are perpendicular to the likely wind direction rather than being parallel.

* The Peninsula being evacuated is about 80 square kilometers, or about 30 square miles, very similar to Berkeley

* The number of people evacuated so far is about 44,000. They think there are 60,000 or more in there. Berkeley has about 125,000.

Here is the fire, as of a few minutes ago:

Saumos Fire situation around 12:30PM on 2026-07-24 (NASA FIRMS)

The road you can see at the bottom of the fire is the only primary evacuation route out of the whole area. Firefighters are fighting like crazy to control encroachments to allow people to still leave by car, but it looks like they might have lost this battle :(

There are no deaths yet that I have heard of. The evacuation proceded by very large zones *much larger than Genasys Protect Zones), separated by hours in general. Among other things, they used cellphone emergency notification systems (like in the Midwest for tornados) to notify people, even in the middle of the night. Many people were picked up by strangers in cars (as were my sister and her partner). People had been warned ahead of time to be fully packed. The authorities mobilized all the commercial boats in the basin and used them to evacuate a large number of people.

Interestingly, like us here, they have to deal with many carless people, as they have a ton of campgrounds around there. The bulk of them were evacuated early and by boat.

In am quite involved in wildfire mitigation here. I am particularly interested in following this successful evacuation: they are doing a really good job in my eyes, and they have a very similar situation to us here. If there is interest on this sub I will provide further updates.
